It's really funny how he just would never give up. I know having that ammount of loyalty is very good, but you have to know when you just can;t win and he should have just stayed and taken care of Liu Shan tbh
Iv thought about this a lot, i think Jiang Wei knew that if he waited to build up Shus strengh Weis would also increase but at a faster rate, as Shu were the weakest Kingdom at that time i think he knew he had pull something special to score a massive victory and seize all of Liang Province which would have put them in a position to take the capital. He came darn close on one attempt but he went to seige Didao rather than go for the food supplies at Mt Qi which i think would have helped. Deng Ai and Guo Huai also were a force to be reckoned with so he also would need to find a way to deal with them.
@ThreeKings completely agree with your assessment. It can't be by chance that his personal traits are lauded by his contemporaries. Jiang Wei could definitely see the futility of the status quo.
@@Klogalous his attempt is a bit messy, i don't know his judgment before every campaign he make, like resource, human side of things like tired etc, also he really isn't learning from his mistake or the zhuge liang northern campaign mistake. if i were him, and i'm in charge of all the military and domestic, all i did will be securing left side of hanzhong (tianshui, didao) in the first campaign, wait for 3/4 years to stablize the area for further invasion. when opportunity arise (like zhuge dan rebellion) i will pushing further to anding and lingzhou area from tian shui and hanzhong (i know not as easy as i say, but need a bit more patience and wait for the opportunity to arise). with these 3 liang area settles in. wait another 3/4 years again (a bit small advance is okay to secure important point slowly) to settled the area before pushing for chang an and wan castle from hanzhong with Wu
In my knowledge, there was no time to wait, same as reason why Zhuge decided to attack Wei first instead of having peace. We all know Wei is somewhere like 10 times Shu in term of developments and army. If Shu wait for 10,20 years, ect, Wei would have became too big to defend against, hence why both Zhuge and Jiang Wei decided to attack first instead of waiting out
Awesome channel man, I was looking for something like this to listen to! The only thing I would change is maybe make a more clear separation between the ROTTK and the actual history
First video of yours I’ve seen. If the rest are this informative I’m about to binge em. I’m honestly surprised how persistent Jiang Wei was. Like yea Liang wanted to wipe out Wei for unification but shit. I feel like he should’ve waited for more advantageous opportunities instead of acting like he was Liang 2.0. With his ultimate demise I no longer know how I feel about him. His portrayal in DW simply highlighted how talented and “benevolent” he was but damn did he mess up a lot.
True hes not quite how he is portrayed in the games but in his defence as the weaker state he knew he had to be on the offensive in hopes of a great victory to turn the tide to his kingdoms favour. He almost had it at one point but he failed to go for the farmland/supplies at Mt Qi where he could have rested his army. He essentially had 2 choices wait for wei to devise a plan to invade and conquor Shu or force them to be on the defensive in hopes of conquoring Liang Province. I think i mention about Mt Qi in Deng Ais video which shows the conquor of shu from Weis perspective. Im happy you enjoyed my video.
@@Klogalous My opinion is that he was someone who was strong in theoretical knowledge, but poor in execution. He wasn't as bad as Ma Su though, who screwed up big time at Jie Ting. I believed he kept waging war against Wei despite the opposition from Jiang Wan and Fei Yi, both prominent ministers of Shu. Jiang Wei advanced whenever there was a slight political turbulence in Wei or if Wu also mobilized against Wei, and I think he failed to be a bit more patient in waiting for a more opportune time. I have to sympathize with him though, he's got a lot on his plate and that's an understatement. He succeeded the great Zhuge Liang, had to work under an incompetent emperor, and not to mention Fei Yi being assassinated (and I think Jiang Wan too) leaving the domestic affairs in shambles.
@@christianswift13 sorry just seen this. I read something interesting how Zhuge Liang was so strict the upper class and peasantry were punished the same which would feed into corrupt officials of shu low key wanting Wei to conquor them so they can get away with more stuff. Thought it was an interesting aspect of the shu government.
@@Klogalous Ideally that's how things should work, emphasize on ideally. But yeah I can see why after Zhuge Liang's death, they could easily gain more influence. Add that with an incompetent emperor at the helm and u got a disaster waiting to happen.
Historically Liu Bei never appointed the 5 tiger generals this was added for the Romance version. In the Records of the three Kingdoms one of the authors Chen Shou documented them into 1 volume. Due to their similar military titles which further influenced them to become known as the 5 tiger Generals. But to suspend disbelief for a moment and answer your question; I wouldnt rule it out as i feel he was reliable but constrained by internal conflict of Shu at that time. If i could place him anywhere in time id have him replace Ma Su at Jieting. He may have performed differently than Ma Su and turned the tide of the three kingdoms in thier favor.
@@Klogalous great i want to know why would you prefer putting him instead of ma su knowing that he will face general zhang he. I love your video about him subs for the work👍🏻
“A LAND OF BENEVOLENCE.”
Jiang wei is defintely the most important character post chi bi i feel. His contribution to shu is so huge .
Jiang Wei, the General who heard no bell.
My most favourite hero in 3k, his life, his fate, his characteristics..
I love him too.His hometown, Tianshui, named the city's first light rail line after him,it's called no."Boyue".
One of my favorite characters in the series. Love the video man 👍
Cheers Bro!
Me too

I'll try remember to mention the differences between them for each person from now on :)
I still think he would of had better luck if Liu Shan wasn't so useless and being controlled by Huang Hao
maybe it still didn't work,The power gap between Shu Han and Cao Wei was too large. With the loss of the Jieting, Shu Han's only chance had been lost.

Jiang Wei is fortunate enough to not be remembered as Luigi Cadorna of Ancient China
I'm not familiar with him but will reead his wiki in a minute :)
I can't but wonder:
WHY was Jiang Wei suspected of being a traitor in the first place?
In Shu Han,he finally became the graet general,if he was still in Cao Wei,maybe he woule keep being a little officer during his life.
