I ride 2 brakes, gyro, and 4 pegs. Here's how I kept the weight down. I started with a cheap bike and decided to upgrade all the parts slowly over time. I choose each part carefully. For instance, when looking for a seat, there might be 4 I like. I choose the one that's 11oz, not 13 oz. I bought BSD bars which were 27oz instead of the 30-34oz norm. I chose Kink drift pegs because they are sub 4oz. CRANKS a big one, I'm deciding now between Colony Venators-25oz and Odyssey Thunderbolts-27oz. Instead of the 30-34oz norm. I like metal pedals, but I bought plastic with metal pins instead, 13oz a pair. Demolition Momentum tires at 19 oz, the best bang for your buck in light tires, because they're not kevlar so they're inexpensive. I chose Madera stems because they are a quality brand with light weight, I run a flatland style 36mm stem, only 9oz. I also run a regular 510 style chain instead of a heavy half-link because I already run a bash sprocket. Certain things I could NOT lighten because I just need what I need...like an Odyssey F25 fork, a Shadow gyro, Odyssey brakes and levers, Shadow bash sprocket. S&M quick release seatpost clamp. Odyssey Hazard complete wheels. These thing I wanted those specific items even though they're not the lightest. Moving forward I have some new parts coming in. I'm going to try a one-piece seat/post combo. 11oz will replace 18oz setup now. KHE park tires, 13oz each replacing my already light Momentums at 19oz. And I sprung for Tubolitos at 2.5 oz vs. my heavy 6oz each tubes. I spent a lot here, but rotating mass...that's a BIG thing like Bob states. For frames, I'm torn, not sure what to buy yet. I like so many things. From a Hyper Indy at 4lb 5oz, to a Fly Aire at well over 5lbs. Lots of choices.
This is my favorite one for the part where he says that back in the day people were doing tricks with heavy bikes because they were a different breed and we are not like that 😂
Fact its a great yt bike channel im glad I found his channel especially with his experience..i used to race bmx 25yo ago n haven't had a bike since 96 haro group 1 fusion ,now my 11yo son really getting into bmx riding and after taking his 20" se pk ripper i got him for Xmas around the block a few times I'm stuck on getting a new bike too, this channel has really nade me realize what im looking for in a bike too with brand, specs ect.. the new bmx bikes definitely changed alot ,thank u @Dougsterbob for the insight on what's legit and worth buying.
I replaced a hi-ten US bb frame and steel bead tires to full cro-mo mid bb frame and kevlar bead tires, before was 12.8 kg., now is 11.3 kg. that was a big change. (sorry in my country we use imperial measurement system). Have a good day.😃
Whoa Bob! A seatpost isn't that much, lol! Roughly speaking, it's about like this, 300mm-7oz. 200mm-5oz. 100mm-3oz. I have a 280 because I use a high seat for flatland and for cruising, it weighs exactly 6.67 oz. I like frames without a built in clamp, so I can use a quick release clamp. Then I put it down for ramps/bowls.
Hi! I am hiding a custom bmx using the frame parts off an old ABD bike (not sure which one because I repainted it) and I only just realised that it is reasonably heavy! I am new just getting into bmx's so do you think it is still valid as a stunt bmx for a begginer?
Anyone that tells you they have a bike lighter than 20 lbs is LYING. Ive rode for 10 years.. starting on a heavy bike doesnt matter. you wont want one when you progress but it helps for in the future. no one in bmx really cares about weight.. t he average is about 25-28lbs
I watched your video "top 6 BMX brands" I noticed most of the bikes were anywhere from 24 to 26 lb. in your opinion what's a respectable weight for a 20in bike? thanks
@@Dougsterbob thank you will do. Also I'm 6ft 180lbs what would you recommend 20, 21, or 24, inch tires? Using it for a indoor mountain bike park in Ohio called Rays. If you made a video send me the link thanks and keep up the good work
@@Dougsterbob awesome thank you I love your channel I've been reading your reviews for bikes for the past year now and I'm trying to get a sunday ex erik elstran

In short no.. I don't know who this guy thinks he is making informational videos on freestyle bmx when he clearly is a beginner from his previous videos... But No, if your front of the bike is heavy its probably the frame, etc
High tensile steel is not as durable or light as chromoly. Unless you're jumping off of like 6 ft Ledges while doing a 360 or a 180. High tensile steel is not that bad if you're riding light. If you plan on actually beating the crap out of your bike and riding hard, then chromoly is the way to go.
Oh shit hahaha i bought the wtp envy 2019. And cost me like shit.. But only learned 5 fucking tricks hahahah damn... Coz i thought beginners like me need a lighter bike hahahahaha 😂😂😂im so dumb

How much weight is an ideal freestyle Bmx bike with 4 pegs? Mine currently weighs 27.5 with zero pegs.

25lbs

Logan Martin, Ryan Williams, and Jaietoohey must have very light bikes.

Anything under 25lb is a really good weight, with pegs i'd say under 28 is pretty solid.

Cool video Doug. What's your experience with ti spokes over primos or double butted? Thanks

Yes! I filmed it and my mic wasnt working so I'll have to redo it.
