A few things to remember… first of all, as the blooms fade & die back, you need to prune the old ones off to keep it stimulated to rebloom. And 8 weeks seems like a rather long time, to be honest, but I’m just speaking from my own experience. All mine are in pots outside. They bloom throughout the year, but it’s random. I don’t know that they last an entire eight weeks, but I know that once one bloom period ends, a new one is just around the corner and coming soon. It’s more like… they bloom once every eight weeks, for two or three weeks. These things are practically weeds and don’t really want to die or stop flowering, aka, reproducing… if you throw it away, it’s not dead. The bulb is fully alive and just needs to be repotted or given some attention. With that being said, they mainly spread underground by the tuber or rhizome. And let me tell you, they can grow large. I’ve repotted them before and found dozens of new bulbs in the soil. The common, standard white ones (or _Zantedeschia aethiopica_ as they’re called) are the strongest growers, and will spread exponentially if given the opportunity. I also have several purple and red cultivars. They’ll even grow in water! It rained here, in California, and I forgot I had some bulbs outside in a bucket that filled with water.. currently, I have a rather large plant growing and flowering there! Which leads me to my other point, they do great in LECA clay calls or semi hydroponics! Also, with feeding anything, give it a half-strength liquid feed once a week, with a specially formulated flowering food (so, not high in nitrogen).
my mom received a cala lilly as a gift and we didn’t realize it wasn’t an evergreen plant. she thought she was doing a bad job when it started wilting and let me try to nurse it back to health. it had dried out entirely by the time i had it, and it’s not on its 2nd life with a bunch of new stocks popping up in the pot ! i would never have guessed that it wasn’t evergreen, so thank you for this video !
Have you made the video on how to replant these plants after they die back yet? I’m very interested because I just got one as a gift and would like to keep it going as long as possible
Thank u so much I bought 4 of these plants both deep red ones have wilted an died . An my lemon an white ones are still looking good . I thought it was something I had done . I potted them in a large wooden planter thinking they would last till the end of summer . Am sad they die off so quick ! Glad I bought 3 hydrangeas aswell !
I just bought one cause it's really pretty. I started growing plants again. I didn't know this plant only last for few weeks. I guess I'll be returning it. 😂. I want my plants to last for years.
My sister gifted me black calla Lilly for my birthday in October last year. It almost completely died, but I left it and recently it started growing so fast and tall I don’t even know what to do lol there are no flowers but the leafs are growing like weeds 😅
Bought these for my aunt for Mother's day. Several actually, and we planted them in a nice planter on the porch outside. They have been dieing and I couldn't figure out why. We had no idea they were only good for 6-8 weeks.
He say is not perrential, but I see vid next to it saying how to grow from bulbs.. bulbs are perrenial.. I had plant said to be annual, but I tested n regrow with bigger spreading roots that grew new plants shoots from it! That's y I like to test those things..
Big White ones are perennial outdoors. Colored ones are delicate and usually wilt away after blooming. You can keep them outdoors at the height of summer but difficult to overwinter
I had one as a present on 9th July 24 and I planted it outside. It is now lst October (three months) and it is still blooming beautifully. I’m wondering whether to bring it inside for the winter ? Do they grow again
My husband’s mom got us this plant several weeks ago. I noticed that the leaves are starting to turn yellow, despite us…well me, watering it twice a week. I’ll get it some sun. I hate it when they die
Thata not the expierence that i made with It sincerely. I bought Mine AS a rescue. When i brought It home i let It in the pot For a month and then repotet It. I have Mine now For 10 months. I water when its dry, make Sure tò water also in the middle of the leaves, give It normal housplant fertilizer every 2 weeks fron April to August and the from September till now once month a Little dose. I water only once, maybe a second time if the soil gets really really dry But i try tò not water It at all becaue everything i read about It said so.. AND...... Mine has grown so much, It Is at least Double the size, when not more, as this ones in the video and shooting out new leaves without every stopping. Yes I had no flowers till now but I'm sure that when the warmer months come, it will cut it back in spring to help with it and even if it doesn't have flowers, I love it still, it's grown so much that I have it on the floor now because it takes up so much space. So I can't compare myself to this situation.
I bought one a few weeks not realising it would only last upto 8weeks. After watching this I know I need evergreen plants. Thanks for the video.
I did too. Live and learn 🫤
Same here😅
It grows back if you plant outside. My Lillie’s go dormant and come back huge!
@Iamniko__ ah right wish I knew that. I put it in brown bin and got a new one lol

I really appreciate this. I thought my plant was dying and I've watched and read, but your video is the most informative that I've found. Thanks.

Very nicely explained 👌
Is there a specific time of the year you would replant the bulb? Or just plant after the 2 months of drying it out?

If you get snow in the winter time than you need to bring those bulbs inside. Then replant them outside in the spring.
Great vedio, thank you
