- Thanks for watching!
I recently took a trip up to New York, and once I realized I was going to be I Josh's neck of the woods! After a long day of trying to navigate through the subway systems, and failing, I finally made it to Josh's and created some sweet covers for you all!
(Also, thank you all for getting us to over a million views on our cover of the Patsy Cline song "Crazy"! That is crazy indeed!)
The weather a few weeks ago up in New York was starting to gain a slight crispness I the air, and even though I knew autumn wasn't quite here just yet, I couldn't help but to hum this song most everywhere I went. We obviously we had to do a cover of it.
-Autumn in New York was written by Vernon Duke
-Guitar arrangement by the wonderfully talented Josh Turner, and based off of the version performed by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong

Sure would be nice to get an entire album of old standards from the two of you.
Great idea. It would be a fantastic album 👍
I'd buy a copy -- heck yeah.
I second that motion.
Thirded!!
I’m in
I can't listen to anything Allison sings without getting misty eyed, and Josh's accompaniment shows a sophistication and restraint far beyond his years.
Agreed
I'll repeat that - Josh's accompaniment shows a sophistication and restraint far beyond his years.
I know, its not even that sad of a song and I'm sobbing!!!
@@segulliford - It has a melancholy feel to it, so I totally understand....sentimental..
I play guitar, he’s good. Those chord fingerings are tough, but brilliant. Musical artists is the greatest compliment I can give-to both of them.🎉
There have been plenty of bands that would have LOVED to have this singer as a member. Tommy Dorsey, and the like. She sings like somebody went back in time and found the very best performer from the 1930's-1940's and transported her to now.
Allison truly does have that voice that is so pure and takes me back to Peggy Lee or Debbie Reynolds, Doris Day or Patty Page and many others. She seems to do well with some of the old standards but she and Josh have done some darn good original stuff as well. We don't seem to hear voices like Allison's anymore unless you know about the voices of old and look them up.
So many guitarists outplay and ruin good vocals but Josh knows just how much volume and emphasis to put on the accompaniment. As if he has a mixer in his head. Stunning production.
I'm a 70 yo man who graduated with a music degree in 1971. In my recently jaded years I had pretty much given up on the youth of our country and was seeing a bleak future. You two have renewed my hope with your solo and collaborative videos. You guys are really talented and even though you are obviously young and fun loving, you are "old souls" and always warm my old heart. Thank you for brightening my life.
I'm a 65 yo man. Maybe the youth of our country aren't the problem.
With performances like this and comments like yours, I worry less.
@@waynzwhirled6181 but there's a good chance they are. These two are exceptions, not the rule.
But I get where your going. The youth of today only know what we older people have taught them. And that's the sad part.
I’d like to point out that there is some absolutely phenomenal original new music by young people that isn’t just jazz standards. It’s easy to get despondent watching what makes the charts and all the singing competition shows. But outside of that sausage machine is pure gold, Josh and Allison being the most shimmering examples I’ve found. Have fun exploring who’s out there.
@@stephenyork7318 My comment alluding to my normal disappointment in the young folks of today was not regarding their music ... it was how badly they've been let down by the educational system that leaves many college graduates functionally illiterate and clueless about our history and/or basic science and/or economics ... but these musicians here leave me encouraged w/o my having a clue about their intellect other than my years of being around really good musicians who almost exclusively are of high intelligence ... real musicianship requires it ...
That can't be her voice! Jesus. Sounds like a record playing. Why haven't I heard of her. I will definitely not forget her. Why is she not top of the billboard charts. She sounds better than 99% of the famous stars out there.
Josh, wonderful guitar, pleasant voice. Allison, easily one of the best voices I've ever heard. Just astonishing.
Allison, you and Josh really need to make an album. It’s just too good not to.
Mitch Kielb seconded 😊👏

You are in luck. 🙂
This is the kind of video that when you watch for the first time and you know it's going to be on repeat for months
Sometimes you don't realize it and it just happens
Josh and Allison, you cannot imagine how I have longed to see you reunite on UA-cam. I doubt that anyone is a bigger Josh Lee Turner fan than myself and I can’t conjure words to adequately describe Allison’s beauty and talent. Thank you. Please do more.
Idk I'm a pretty big fan myself Haha
You sound a bit like Ignatius J. Reilly
absolutely beautiful !
I became fan of you both today. Great style and good taste.
I heard Sinatra's and Krall's versions. They are as good as usually, but YOUR rendition is THE BEST. Wonderful! We may shut the door now: this is the definitive version.
Josh's voice is wonderful here, a beautiful complement to Allison's gorgeous diction and tone. This could not be better.
Josh, those chords!!! I hope people here appreciate the shear technical ability involved in playing this piece! Stunning. Not to mention both of your vocals. Wow!
Them fingas be pretzlin’ fo sho.
"... You'll need no castle in, Spain... " Really? Josh's interpretation [flamenco-flare] there & her reaction @ 3:33 into that brilliant interlude is 'jaw-dropping' once again. What a breath of fresh air our youth of today is pulling off! Just love these voices together. Hypnotic indeed. Thank you both for delivering such a masterpiece... 😉 💜 🍀 🎶
I love both of you! Thank goodness to hear the lovely sweet sounds of yesterday peeking through the clouds that cover and distort music today.
Finally, REAL music in today's world.. return of the genuine talent!!
The tiny bit of flamenco (Asturias) when the lyrics touched on castles of Spain was clever and well-played!
George Chaffee well spotted! Thanks!
@@JoshTurnerGuitar it was not necessarily subtle, man 😂
Love your work
It is influenced by flamenco, but it's not really flamenco per se. It's a classical guitar prelude which was actually originally written for piano.

i clapped when they finished. I'm at home alone and i clapped. Brilliant.
I've heard this song more than 10 times today, it's such a peaceful style of music, so relaxing, I feel like I'm in New York drinking coffee, watching the rain fall on my window, just wonderful ❤️
New York is trashed. Only in your dreams now.
It took me actually visiting Brasil 10 times before I moved there for a year. I was on the beach one day into about 3 beers, and the radio started playing Bossa Nova. As a tear rolled down my cheek, that was the day I started understanding 'Brasil'.
More than a tea for two, Oscar for two!!
Stunning. I mean, like, jaw-dropping stunning.
... 100 thumbs up
totes agree.
On of the best recordings of "Autumn in New Yor"k I've ever heard - and I've been around a while!
We all agree - a quarter million viewers all want (and need!) an (analog) album of standards by you and Josh! Do it! Please!
Yes, please!
I think if I could hear only one more song before I died...I would hope it would be sung by this beautiful woman.
is somethin' else... as a jazz scholar veteran in this scene... the bygones are more than anything else around - in canyons of still - you're real - and make youtube a whole wide world in your loving hands, and loving voices surrounding all with sounds - hommagge tributin' to this priceless - legacy of the swing era - never to be forgotten - and dreamer with handful of paradise all around enjoy to draw comfort as this paradise is heavily wounded in body&soul - keep on the GW y'all looking forward for all those recordings you probably never released yet between mountains of gems you create there Josh, Allison and whole YT heroes - rock on jah poetic standarts of all-times . . true inspirations thank you for the music
As a 63 year old myself, I concur rslskd below, in that I love all genres of music from oldies to modern, from Mozart to Metallica, but the presentation of pure talent and music such as displayed here is often sadly lacking today. Great playing and vocals. Thank you both.
Great to see two talented, hardworking, respectful young people doing classic songs like this one. Keep up the good work.
Incredibly difficult song, and she sang it flawlessly - and then he chimed in, and it was elevated further! Bravo you two!!
Yeah, it is not a simple tune by any stretch.
If Ella Fitzgerald were alive today she'd give you both a big hug and say thank you so much for carrying on an American tradition of beautiful music so beautifully. The combination of Allison's voice and Josh's familiar chords just send chills through me. This is perfection.
You two have something special together. You're both incredible on your own, but together! Wow.
Absolutely!!!!
I think each of them inspires the other one.
Take note of this video. 10 years from now, both will be pillars in their own right. A classic, before it will be a classic.
What a beautiful voice you have Allison.
I can't comment on perfection.
Absolutely terrific! Loved the classical guitar flourish during the “castles in Spain” line. A great interpretation.
Spectacular, wasn't it.
I was going to comment the same thing. Awesome!
I noticed it too. A very Flamenco arrangenment.
Ho w bout the rumble during Adventures in Central Park? Guy's a total genius
It is so refreshing to hear a beautifully trained voice. Not to mention Josh “crushing it” as usual on guitar (and vocals).
There’s that velvety voice from that lovely young girl, and that smooth, rich voice from that amazingly talented young man! Beautiful performance.👏👏👏👏👏
Wow, wow. I don't even know what to say. The guitar work is very delicate, and those vocals. So rich, and silky. What a perfect duet.
Love to see you guys do more duets like “Baby it’s cold outside”. So many to choose from the American songbook.
Alison has such a gorgeous voice and she’s got great style. Love how she looks.
Allison + Josh = perfect union of talent!
I like the affectionate rendering of these old songs but they do the new ones pretty good too. It's obvious they love what they're doing. Sincerity matters. Plus putting a song across without the glitz is very refreshing.
These videos are criminally under-viewed. These two are seriously good.
This masterpiece comes out so Natural and melancholic like raindrops in september...
What a very, very lovely young lady with such a beautiful voice accompanied by a fantastic guitarist who can sing with the best of them.
Bravo!
A boy, a girl, a guitar... poof magic. These songs are big band era...to hear the enchanting beauty that Josh and Allison create with so little just screams of the talent we are witnessing here. No studio, no band, no big name (I know, I know Josh is a master arranger) arranger, no magical editing...and we end up with this. I am stunned. I so want to play guitar ike Josh and Allison...I just want to be her.
Sings the word "Spain" and immediately riffs on a flamenco measure just for seasoning. Both of them are awesome!
I'm a fan of somebody who appears to be about 1/3 my age, and I have to say that listening to how wonderful you sound at such a young age is extraordinary. It really brings home something Bob Dylan said
"You start getting older, and you begin to have hopes for other people besides yourself"
This is certainly true in your case. You are just barely getting started, and already you have created an amazing body of work.
Keep going
You're just going to get better and better.
I love listening to you two together!
I love the little Spanish Interlude in the middle of the song to go along with the words😮
WONDERFUL iNTERPRETATION😊
So great to see you two together again. I loved your version of "Crazy" and was hoping for more. I too would like to hear more standards from you both.
Beautiful voice, pretty face and fabulous, shocking hair! And Allison's not bad either! :o
Beautiful, Inspiring Duet
Timeless
OMG....Why do you not have a recording contract?
You are absolutely amazing!!!
This was simply captivating. I can't even come up with words to do it justice, so I'll leave it at that.
Ditto!
Fleeing the German army with the free forces, my grandfather (from Brittany in France) landed in New York at the start of the second world war. I dedicate this song to him. I also dedicate it to the big apple hard hit by the disease. Courage to all New Yorkers and their loved ones.
DAMN!!!!! VOCAL DUET WHATTA SURPRISE WONDERFUL WOWWWWWWW!!!!❤🎉😮😅😊
This is beautiful. It makes me, an old man now, remember, for a moment, what it was like then, a long, long time ago. I feel both sad and happy at the same time. Thank you, Allison and Josh. And, more, please!
So much time that I never realized it`s value until I finally did. But at last I did,,,know what I mean friend.
So, here I sit, browsing for anything different by Josh, when I stumble across this alluring, hypnotic creature Allison singing an entrancing rendition of Autumn in New York.
Josh's sublime guitar work and voice never disappoint, to include the little injection of flamenco styling, exactly where appropriate.
You Tube Nirvana! Thank you!
Press an album of standards. You'll sell millions.
Come on Josh how can you sit next to this Red Haired Blue Eyed beauty and not melt. Reminds me of my mother and makes me cry.
You know that feeling when you hear those first words and your body shivers and your legs go weak, ooooohh, this is fucking incredible.
You two are simply sublime. Love the music you make.
Excellent jazzy song played and sung wonderfully
Josh and Allison, this is simply magical and wonderful. Thank you so much and very best wishes for your future careers.
George.. Huddersfield, England.
I always come back to this one. Just makes me smile and sing along :)
I like this song best. Allison, your voice really shines here. Josh does very well too. I think you two could produce a CD of this kind of music and it would sell to a more discreet ear.
What a beautiful rendition, when Im depressed I listen to this cover, Thanks
For melancholic sweetness comes dropping slow...
One more reason why i love playing jazz guitar.
just seeing you together makes me feel the joy of singing from your heart at full volume
I was mistaking there are a lot of people in 2023 that appreciate this.
Still in appreciating in 2024.
One of the most beautiful voices
Oh, to be young!
Excellent guitar work. Wonderful vocals. And that gorgeous hair ...
A lovely, sensitive performance by both performers. But let's take a minute to tip our caps to Vernon Duke (1903-1969) who wrote this lovely, bittersweet song all those years ago
A sophisticated melody. I was curious and realized I knew nothing about him. He was a Russian refugee, Vladimir Dukelsky. Most of his classical music was written under that name. I just listened to his Cello concerto, very moody and inventive.
and it is soooo lovely. Thanks Paul for pointing Vernon Duke out to us.
one of the best things ive heard in years
Always gotta come back and listen to this every few weeks
Incredibly talented duo. Can’t get enough of your collaborations.
The difference between Josh and Allison covering a standard such as this and lots of duos/trios/bands doing likewise, is that J & A don't just perform the song - they absolutely inhabit it and thereby infuse it with new life. I must have heard this song a thousand times over the years, but I think this is my favourite version of all. Absolutely jaw-dropping.
Such excellent musicianship. Thank you Thank youThank youThank youThank youThank youThank youThank you
Awesome Alison!
😘
And please never sign with UNIVERSAL, WARNER or SONY or sell your soul for fame and money.
You got enough talent. 😉
God bless
I keep returning to this. Every time I am impressed, and get such a warm feeling for this song!
She has the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard!
Just imagine... you, a women/man in hand, walking down Central Park, a cup of coffee during autumn listening to these two in the background. Ahhhh :)
Thanks for singing the whole song!
Wonderful. It's hard to find words to describe your music. Marvelous. Great. None are good enough. You two are world-class performers.
Beautiful! You make it look deceptively easy.
I was enjoying this but then when Josh started to sing it was just like frosting on a cake!! Just devine!!!
Yes, this song is such a nice fit for Allison's voice. Oh, and Josh kills it too. Delicious!
Thank you so much for making such beautiful music. Josh’s guitar work and Allison’s voice are as brilliant as ever. I’ve been longing for a collaboration from these two since their Patsy Cline cover.
This channel is a time machine💕
eye reese ...........Exactly, a musical and emotional TARDIS
That was seriously DOPE!!
This video is the perfect melding of a classic song with classic talents. Age has nothing to do with it.
Role Models for the youth of the World !!! Great Job Ya'll !!!
Absolutely beautiful collaboration Josh and Allison, so much emotion and passion in this song!!!
I JUST KEEP HITTING THE REPLAY BUTTON. This song hits the heart. They play off each other. As the song runs, you can see it in their body english and faces. That's a duet.
Lets not use our comments here to disparage anybody and PAY ATTENTION to what these excellent crooners are producing!!! Deal? Deal!!! 🎉❤👏👏👏👏🙆🙆🙆🙆🤗🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘😘
This one didn't need UA-cam to shut off the dislike button. There weren't any dislikes.
These kids are past wonderful. Really liked this.
Absolutely beautiful. Few can sing this song the right way. You two are fantastic.
Josh's guitar and your voice go together so well. Always a pleasure to listen to.
oh this performance is so good.
I first encountered Allison Young because of following the Josh Turner Guitar channel. I've been a fan ever since.
