This Jazz Piano Tutorial is on Reharmonization.
The chord progression you use over a particular melody line can significantly alter the feel and sound of a song. It can also influence the genre that song falls into. Each style of music has particular chord progressions that are typical of that style. Further, the melodies of each genre interact with the harmony in particular ways. To demonstrate this we will look at the first 8 bars of the Beatles song All My Loving and then perform a reharmonization on it - thus fitting it into a number of different music genres.
Specifically, we will look at the types of chords used, the types of chord progressions used, and how the melody interacts with the harmony for each reharmonization style.

I loved how you nailed the term quasi-random. To me some modern jazz sounds like quasi random harmonies without idea, journey or resolution. People just seem to avoid looking "simple" and shy away from using traditional harmonies, but at the same time, there is less music in the result, just a competition who is more sophisticated on the stage. I guess the public taste is getting more complex over the years, and Bach's kind of harmonies I-V-I-V do not cut it anymore. But the time when diminished seconds (halftone intervals) would be appreciated in every chord did not come yet. When public taste reaches that level, we will finally see the introduction of quarter tones into mainstream music:)

Dmitri ..I think that you vastly underestimate the complexity of Bach’s harmony

What happens if I’m trying to reharmonise a song that starts in the key of C major and modulates to Ab major or anything else at the chorus?

Walk That Bass when you write music, do you personally write a melody or chord progression first?
