Same Melody in 26 Different Genres
Вставка

- Andrew Huang and Dave from Boyinaband already did a few videos like this one, and I wanted to challenge myself by making one as well, but I wanted to go at it in a sort of a different way.
Instead of doing something alphabetically, I decided to just take one melodic motif (or motive) and see how easily it could fit into all these different genres of music. Now, these genres are very broad. We could talk subgenres and styles until the end of time, so I had to keep them fairly obvious. Nothing too niche.
Because of the nature of this video, I'll be delving into "how to" develop the ability to orchestrate your music into a specific genre with several other videos. Hopefully those can be useful to those of you who follow me for tutorial videos.
I also kinda wanted a new demo reel for composition with better production quality and a bit of humor to keep it from being super dry.
Point is: if you'd like to hire me for composition work, I'm ready to go! Especially for anything with a very specific mood or atmosphere.
Here are the genres:
"Epic" Trailer Music
Chant
Renaissance Lute
Baroque
Classical
Romantic
Ragtime
Delta Blues
1920's Cartoon Jazz (a variety of old jazz that makes me laugh)
1950's Bubblegum Pop Ballad
1960's Motown
Psychedelic Rock
20th Century Concert Music (much like Ligeti, whom I love)
Disco
Classic Rock (kinda like Boston)
Italo Disco (my guiltiest pleasure)
80's Horror (much like John Carpenter movies or even Stranger Things)
New Jack Swing
16-Bit Video Game (influenced heavily by my constant playing of my Sega Genesis, Megadrive in the rest of the world)
New Age (my wife used to listen to a lot of Enya)
Eurodance (another guilty pleasure)
2000's Rap (blatant Dre 2001 era beat)
Metal (with all the sub genres, what even is metal anymore?)
Ambient Horror (I love Akira Yamaoka's soundtracks)
Dubstep (of the American brostep variety)
Soft Beach Music (the Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz stuff that's still really popular around the Pacific Ocean here)

Before UA-cam algorithm take place, i wanna say hi to those actually found this by search.
Please, algorithm!🙏
Hey!
Hello
Yo
algorithm worked!
i feel like i’m watching a show where they write the main character’s theme into every song on the soundtrack to be played at key moments
This would be a wild movie with all the time jumps. 😂
Motifs!
this so underrated yet so much effort and talent are seen here deym
Thanks!
Could t agree more. Defineltly will SUBSCRIBE.
I still dont have an idea how to distinguish what genre a song is by listening to it nor i dont even know whatspecifically makes up a music for it ti be qualified as any of the genres but this video is great and i can tell exactly that much hardwork is put onto this.
Maybe its because some/most songs have overlapping genres.
Caleb Binyenya those become subgenres, where they elements from 2 or more genres, I.E. metalcore takes elements from metal and hardcore music
Didn't expect much from someone that likes The Beatles
All I can say is I love this comment. Lol 😅😁✨
Levy Atã what
Is interesting how a same tune doesn't sound the same at all in different forms of music.
Totally! Isn't is weid how all music is just organized sound waves, and all western music only has twelve specific tones, but just through texture and rhythm there's still a ridiculous variety? It's crazy how easy it is for our brains to distinguish between two sounds even when they're playing the same thing.
that 80s horror soundtrack sounds like technoir, and jackswing sounds like a few new vapor wave things,
i guess 2020s is a renaissance
Just look at how the same progressions are used everyday in 294728383 ways.
Are you sure all these pieces can be considered a same melody? Even if played in different rhythms? I feel rhythm is part of the melody. Anyway spectre of styles and arrangements is impressive indeed.
The melody is just a bunch of notes, then the rhythm and the armony chosen make the color of the song and let it sound different
I was entertained in 27 different ways!
😃 Yarharhar!
Also, hey: you have quite the video collection as well. I'm gonna have to delve into those prepared guitar videos!
UA-cam algorithm, maybe now is the time you should recommend this gem to everyone
Thank you!
UA-cam algorithm: let's some *years* like we *always* do.
now it's happening lol

youtube algorthim please promote this
Haha! Yes!
now it's working XD
yeah
It did xd
Like no joke, this is some musical talent, I study music and by goodness you took easy cliches and made them obvious well having fun. I don’t think people realize how different styles of music have so much to learn. Kudos to your work!
Thank you so much!
Facemeltingsolos Take it into consideration that to replicate a style of music you have to have listened to many different songs from that genre and dissected them.
Now if I could only subscribe in 26 different ways...
yeah, amazed by how much struggle gone through the making of this video
This video deserves much more views!
Artem Yushko Thanks a bunch! Feel free to share it. I'm too afraid of being shadowbanned for promoting myself, lol!
It really does!
This should go viral
Fingers crossed, lol! 🤞
SHOULD!
I really like the directing and how u changed fonts accordingly! This took so much effort honestly so proud
Thank you so much!
One of the best music related videos on youtube
Thank you!
Very creative and informative.
Is it possible that you can do a video about music theory and defining what makes up a specific genre?
Actually, that's a great premise for an entire series of composition videos! Recognizing genre signifiers is something I've only done with a couple students, but it's really useful. Thanks for the idea! Now I just gotta find the time to follow through.
Yes I agree with you...!!
I can tell you worked really hard putting this together. Great video man!
Thank you so much! Yes, it took longer than expected.
This guys is the musical hitman
🔫 🔫 🔫
The hand veins really add the atmosphere on chant genre
Hand veins for days!
I teach middle school music, and this is great for the kids, who unfortunately are growing up in a music drought. You did a great job without words!
I'm glad it was good for them! What do you mean by music drought? 🤔
@@FacemeltingsolosMusicmost likely a lack of music which is child friendly, most popular genres are more grown up, like pop has lots of artists who talk about sex and that kind of thing. Then theres rap which has some songs about being a gangster, doing drugs and also contains slurs.
@@pupgaming5072 Gotcha, yeah that makes a lot of sense.
Such high effort video yet so underrated! Not only did you made various different genres for the same melody, you performed and even added special effects to the video like black and white for ragtime and pixelated for 16 bit. Great video!
Thanks a bunch, glad you enjoyed it!
You have no idea how much better my day is because you included Italo Disco... No, I am not kidding either...
Showbiz CEC That's great to hear! I LOVE Italo! It's one of the genres no one thinks a guitarist would like so much, haha!
Italo is amazing!!
The fact you recorded this in the 1920s and at 10:00 you are wearing a shirt that is from a show that came out in 2010 means you have been working on this video for a very long time. Nice Vinyl Scratch Shirt btw ^_^
What can I say? I'm a slow writer. 🤣
Thanks. 👍🏻
This is Pure gold, thank you it is a great video!
Thank you so much!
What amazes me is that you seem to have a fitting t-shirt for each genre
My dresser hates me. 😅
Music teacher here, I hope you don't mind if I use this to teach genres. Excellent video love the cinematics and I like how you divided classical up more specifically.
Oh awesome, thanks! Yeah, go for it! 👍🏻 I'm hoping to make a sequel this summer. ✌🏻
@@FacemeltingsolosMusic Sweet! Thanks! Looking forward to the sequel!
A M A Z I N G!!! I want to learn how to distinguish different genres and all that jazz (no pun intended) and came across this video and wow. Absolutely blown away. I'm gonna come back to this and explore the different types, i learned so much already just from the first watch. Not to mention your ability is amazing + love the dancing. If you compose other music I'd love to hear it, this is just so awesome!!
Thank you so much! I'm hoping to start a video series about how to recognize and use signposts for different genres. Now if I could only find some extra free time, haha!
This is the most awesome video seen in a long time. My favorite styles are Baroque, Romantic, Delta Blues and Classic Rock
Thank you so much! Happy you like it!
You even got a DJ Pon3 shirt for the dubstep!
The only way to roll!
this could actually be a sick premise for an album
If he added actual song lyrics, new version of Bohemian rhapsody
This deserves way more views wow
Hey, thanks!
My favorites of yours are Romantic Classical, Disco, and Dubstep
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
I need a full version of some of these! 😂
Beside all the arrangement, the visual part of this vid is so good as well!
Thank you so much!
Quality and effort👌
great way to learn genres
Thanks!
Love it very much, I tried to do the same thing back when I went to music-school. And this reminds me of how fun it was! ✌️
It is fun, isn't it?
Super fun!
Wow, this was freaking awesome. Super cool video. Dude, you have a fantastic musical mind to pallet swap this into so many genres AND do it so well.
Aw, dude thank you so much!
Great work, i see lot of effort u put in and definitely love it
Thank you so much!
I appreciate how much effort went into this video
Thank you!
Appreciating the amount of work that must have gone into creating this!
I like how you move through the decades.
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to do.
@@FacemeltingsolosMusic Can you make a sequel including Nu Metal, Bebop, Jazz Fusion, and Electro Swing?
@@FacemeltingsolosMusic You're welcome! I'm glad you had fun doing it.
@@darklordthomaspie6293 Some of those were already on the list to do!👍
Love that you got into character for these! Laughed my butt off at the “new age” one 🤣
Haha! Thank you!
"He has the range, darling."
This is so awesome! I’m only halfway through and loving it!
Haha, thanks!
5:39 almost thought I was in for the longest set up Rick Roll ever...
My faves are 80s horror soundtrack (my dad used to listen to music like that A LOT when I was younger, that's why I like synths now lol), italo disco and psychedelic rock
I have a deep-seated love for those genres, too. Listened to so much of each of them in different periods of my life.
I wouldn’t mind a full cover! Good job!
Similar to this, I like when modern artists take “samples” from older pieces of music and turn it into something new! Some call it stealing, but as long as the original artist is properly accredited, I think it’s very creative! You can look up videos of songs with their samples and be amazed.
Genius....Excellent! Will preserve this for the rest of time! Thank you
Awesome video! Some genres are really calming ...thanks man. Got great information!
Thanks so much! Happy to help.
I like the chant!!! You should do a full one of it!!! Oh and Renaissance!!
too much talent in one video
Haha, thanks you so much!
Incredible beyond words! Not only is the music awesome but your edits as well!
Thank you so much!
This is such an amazing video. You're not only talented in music, but also amazing at editing. Props to you 🎉
Thank you so much!
Blew me away dude, absolutely amazing! Everyone should see this!!
Thank you so much!
This is amazing! There were so many songs ive listened to that I didn't know the genre of and this helped to figure it out! THANKYOU
Thanks for watching!
So Thankful with this kind of video content. Thanks

It was Creative, well interpreted, informative and underrated overall awesome content.
This is amazing! Good work!! So much effort & time was put into this...holy cow😍🙏
Thank you.
Holy crap. I think I can honestly say that out of the countless hours of UA-cam I’ve watched in my life, this is probably my favorite video I’ve ever seen.
I’m honestly blown away by how much talent you have - you have an incredible understanding and feel of so many drastically different musical styles, and the production/mixing of all the genres was spot-on. And not only that, but you filmed and edited this together in a pleasing and entertaining way. I mean, everything from the lighting, to the different outfits, to the facial expressions...everything. I can’t even imagine the hours you put into this. How this video doesn’t have well over 1 mil views is beyond me.
Not sure if you’re ever going to read this comment, but I want you to know how much I (and I’m sure many others) appreciate all the work you put into this video!
Wow, I'm flattered, thank you so much!
AWESOME! I learned a lot. 💖🎉
that metal breakdown thoooo
I haven't made much aggressive music in the past ten years or so, and doing that reminded me of how fun that is. Now I feel I GOTTA do more, haha!
Except it's not a metal breakdown, but metalore maybe
Phenomenal. I feel like I was watching with sound off.
wow, incredible video my friend! captures all of it perfectly!
Thanks!
I'm proud to find this video. Really cool!
I'm glad you did too. 👍
i am a big eurodance fan. i love the eurodance version 8:01. if you had released this in 1995 you would have had a Top 10 hit. 😄
Haha! Thank you so much! I listened to a lot of Jpop and Euro stuff in the mid to late 90s when we got internet for the first time. Took a whole day to download anything, lol. Then DDR came out and I played it every chance I got. Good times.
@@FacemeltingsolosMusic you are a genius…
Was looking for diferente between r&b and soul and ended up here. Stayed for the whole 11 minutes. Awsome work!
Thank you so much!
i'm so sad, this video deserves so much more views!!!! thank you for your hard work, man!!!
Thank you so much! One of these days I'll learn how to brand and market, lol!

Wow, super talented and there’s a lot of efforts put into this too!

for videos like this there needs to be an omega like button. how does this not have 10mil+ views.
I don’t know how I got here, but what I do know is that this is an amazing video.
Also, immediate like for the DJ Pon3 shirt.
Really amazing video, loved it !
Thank you so much!
Fantastic. You've captured the genres amazingly well, and that takes a deep understanding of each, and talent and skill to perform and produce them. 👍👍
Thank you so much!
It is evident how much effort must have gone into making this video. It's truly remarkable and amazing. This needs to be so much more popular than it is. Wish you all the best for your endeavours !! ❤️
Thanks a bunch!
This video is so creative and informative!
Thanks!
i was secretly hoping for dubstep and i got what i wanted.
new sub
I know the secrets of your heart!💘

thx for this beautiful lesson
You bet!
I've return to see this masterpiece once again. I'm surprised it doesn't have millions of views yet, it deserves it!
Haha thank you so much! I've been wanting so badly to make a sequel, but life gets in the way, you know?
@@FacemeltingsolosMusic i would definitely looking forward for the sequel when the time comes. Hope things are doing well with your irl stuff

I'm Yours by Jason Mraz? Same chords.Really evident in the 'soft beach music' last genre.
Haha! Yep, the "four chords" progression really gets around. You've seen the old Axis of Awesome video?
Impressive. Thoroughly enjoyable. Nice job 👍🏽

I can't tell they are the same melody. Thanks for the effort.
happy i found this searching for something similar
