    Really cool. Would love a video of applying this to a standard? I always hear herbie do reharmonizations and I’m just baffled how to apply it.

      Hey Luke absolutely! Love that idea. Also, in December I did a video about re-harmonizing Christmas time is here. You might find that interesting if you haven’t seen it already!

      huge video out there from, of course, Jacob Collier...5 levels of harmony or some such thing...beginner to expert. And the expert is Herbie. Lol.

    This could be helpful as an intro to rehsrmonizing but you'd need to explore all the known harmonic progressions(like minor & major 3rd's, 4th's, tritones that resolve down a half step, minor sixths) to provide a complete picture.

    Really great exercise!!! I love it. Hey Noah it would be awesome to use this as a basis for another tutorial where you give 2 or 3 voicings examples for each tone (in one scale)
    in order to build up a small arsenal of voicings for instant reharmonisation :))

      Whilst I get you, this could easily be done by considering whether the chord could work as a major, minor, dominant voicing etc.,..

    Great video...would have been excellent if you gave one example voicing for each base note.....But I guess it would be more helpful for us to find it on our own according to what sounds better to our ears. Thanks

    Wow - I've watch a lot of re-harm, upper structure, jazz YT vids having no training. I'm sure it's not so easy, but I loved the 'hearing' the voices w/ the melody in one note! Very cool! Wishing much success for you !!! Beautiful playing - even in an exercise!!

    Which software is the one showing you the chords and inverts you play in the screen?

  • @iix23
    @iix23 3 роки тому

    I have a question. But first, thank you for the video.
    I am pretty good at replicating what you are doing on the keyboard. I feel like I am building muscle memory and can play what you play (way slower, without the accent and feel). However, I can't read the music sheets and when you are talking/ calling cords I am at lost.
    The question; Will this come with time and repetitions, or do need to put my nose in a book to learn this. I tried the book method and it's kind of discouraging because the way it progresses, is really slow and not entertaining to the ear. On the other side, doing your progressions and cords is very satisfactory to the ear and keeps me coming back for more.
    Am I stuck in a catch 22?
    Thanks for your time.

    • @NoahKellman
      @NoahKellman  3 роки тому +5

      Great question man! In all honestly I’m not the most incredible sight reader in history ha ha but what I would recommend is to find some beginner piano books if you’re just starting out, turn on a metronome and try to sight read at least a little bit every single day.

      Any sheet music you can find regardless of difficulty. Just play it according to your skill. Pick the baseline and melody out of it and practise that. I taught myself using a church hymn book

    4:23 .. I don't understand? Why "any kind of G minor chord" .... why not G major chords? like g b d f ?

    • @AmonTRodgers
      @AmonTRodgers 3 роки тому

      That would be a G dominate 7 chord. I imagine it would work as well :). Just no Major 7s, as that would be an F#
