As an aged hippie carpenter from the 1960s, now 76 years-old, I want to nominate you for some sort of belated, "Whole Earth Catalog Role Model and Mentor" Award. You are what we wanted to be then, but you are it in the here and now. I raise my tape measure, Skilsaw, and pipe wrench in homage. You are the real deal!

It’s an odd thing, but I often feel quite moved watching your videos. The editorial balance you achieve with the incredible filmic drone shots, coupled with the intimate minutiae of your works on the cabins: the clear intelligence of your thought process and yet the graceful simplicity of carrying this out. Thank you. It’s such a treat to be a part of your audience.

If you ask a blind man which is more beautiful, a day with a sky full of sun or rain, and you will likely be told rain. A blind man cannot see the sun, but they can hear every drop of rain and the wind as it blows through the trees. For those of us with the gift of sight, when we see a day full of rain, we make excuses to stay indoors where it's dry and comfortable. It's difficult to justify going outside and work in the rain, no matter how important the work is. Somehow, once we manage to get outside, it becomes easier. There's a whole other world out there to be found working in the conditions that we otherwise would avoid. And new experiences. With it comes the satisfaction of the work accomplished. It becomes easier to enjoy the evening, to sleep more soundly, and to awaken the next morning.

it might seem impossible, until you try it. When I was 14, yes, 14, I dreamed about sailing a small yacht (40 ft swan) around the world. My uncle owned this and taught me to sail, and told me never to stop your dreams becoming reality. I made mine real, left him a note, stole (borrowed ) his boat and sent him a postcard with temporary address on. Got a reply, enclosing quite a lot of cash, he said go for it, and tear this letter up and throw it overboard, write to me when you run out of money. I worked my way around the globe, came back at 17 with the best education you could have.

The peacefulness of the "show, don't tell" formula you have going is really relaxing to watch and probably makes it more approachable to audience who don't speak English as well. Watching these amazing shots of nature and one guy who is clearly feeling joy in everything he does is just what I need every now and then. I'm so addicted to Martijn's channel. I play all the videos on loop while I peter about at home, even as I fall asleep. The cadence of his videos, the music track, the ambient sounds and his voice are quite calming...in all his videos. I really appreciate this channel 🙂
And I really felt for him as he single handedly dug that trench, even in the rain. Ouch. Glad he has a warm shower now...he deserves it!

I am very happy for you getting running water to your shower and I am amazed of the water pressure you have there. Be careful to not hurt your back. You know how to do so many things!

We just found you two days ago on U Tube. My husband and I are captivated by your work on the homestead. I recently retired and have been installing irrigation pipes and a drip system. I have also been installing pavers and walkways so I can sort of relate to a part of your back breaking work. You mentioned you were not sure about the cow manure you placed in your garden bed. As an avid vegetable gardener, I will say the soil you dug out of the bottom of the structure will definitely be viable as a nutritious growing medium for your plants. If it smells like sweet earth and not cow dung, then it will be absolutely fine to use. Rotted cow manure is the best. We look forward to more videos. Best of luck in all you do.

Dear Martian, my sister informed me she fell asleep watching UA-cam and woke up to your channel. I decided to subscribe and have started watching from the beginning as it’s been a nice escape from our worlds situation. To tell ya the truth, it has been very relaxing and am having fun watching you enjoy this process! You do a great job explaining little details of your thought process with us! God Bless you and keep you safe!

"eEscape from our worlds situation" exactly! My sister is very sick and it was too much to also worry about the world, so I binged all of Roaming Wild Rosie, where a commenter mentioned Martijn's channel, so here I am, bingeing it. I just love it.

It’s interesting to see how many side projects crop up as main projects get underway. I guess this is the cost of starting small, every expansion causes a domino effect on other systems (like expanding the power system to accommodate for the boiler).
