As a wildlife documentarian I owe my life and our camera crews life to these dogs after multiple grizzly encounters that with out our dogs we would have been up against some deadly encounters. Thank you to all the organizations that help train and handle these amazing dogs. 💙💙
My Beautiful Diablo (KBD) passed last November. I miss his wake up kisses and funny ways each & every day. The bond I had with this very loyal dog was so strong & like no other breed I have ever had. They truly are a Very Special breed.
Thank you for watching and for sharing that touching story with us. Rest peacefully little Diablo
@@indiealaska Thank You 🌻
The native name Karjalankarhukoira and its a literal translation karelian(Karjalan) bear(karhu) dog(koira). As a finnish person it sounds a bit funny, and thats exactly how I described my dog to english friends without knowing the correct name 😊
Ekko is my KBD from Prince of Whales, we live in Skagway. She keeps bears out of our yard and away from my dog walking clients. I call her my Free Range Chicken. Love the work you guys do.
Nils is very chill considering he works daily with wildlife and powerful dogs.
You gotta be I guess 🤷🏼♀️
@@a_e_hilton 100%. : ) Need to be relaxed and attentive, working with nature rather than in conflict, which helps to keep his dogs on that same "wavelength". Excellent to see!
If he was anxious he probably wouldn't enjoy this job and it might become dangerous
Was this made for me
Fascinating video! I had no idea about these dogs and the work they perform! I’m going to scan your videos and see what else I can learn! Thanks so much for sharing this👍
This is the sweetest and most wholesome comment ever! Thank you for the good feels.

LOVE THIS BREED...AMAZING FEARLESS INTELLIGENT POWERFUL..WHATEVER YOUR BREED IS LOVE THEM ..A DOG IS THE ONLY THING THAT LOVE U MORE THAN ITSELF
Aww The Karelian. A dog that can dance In between the Rain drops… I have two Reko and Jade. Runners for sure. Great Dogs saved my mini schnauzer from a coyote!!!
Great video, I am on my second and third KBD's now. A two yr old female and three yr old male, both akc foundation stock.
So cool! Any bear encounters?
@@indiealaska Yes, the male has had a couple black bear's
We just got our first KBD. Bernice is fearless.
I own a kerilian bear dog malamute cross
They look like akitas
It's insane to me that a grizzly bear would run from a dog when it could easily tear the dog into pieces if it was so inclined
These dogs would bark at a bear to keep it in place whilst the hunter would come and shoot the bear so I’m not sure if they’d be able to get within reach. Very true though.
A good bear dog would never go close to big animal to get killed. This is part of the skillset of a good breed.
Hunt the bears !
The DOG is hunting. The dogs are mostly used to scare bear away, warn people ,or relocate bear if necessary.
