Several childhood friends and I used to listen to the music of the Everly Brothers way back in our elementary-school age in the Philippines. (We’re all are in our seventies now.) Constantly listened to them on a cousin’s transistor radio. We loved their music, and still do. My friends still live in the Philippines and I have migrated to the States. Since Don’s passing, I have been receiving online messages from my surviving friends. Don’s passing has left us all feeling so sad. The brothers have left us, but their music lives on - to us at least
Every modern rock group from the Stones and Beatles to the Bee Gees and the Eagles learned how to sing and write songs with great harmonies from these guys. All of them have said they listened to the Everly Brothers when they were young. Every song they sang had that great harmony. Love them.
Loved listening to Keith Richards on recent. PBS documentary on the. Everly Brothers. Keith’s memories of their talent, kindness and professional generosity was extremely moving.
In '85, these guys were nearly 50 with decades of aging, smoking, drinking and drugging behind them but their voices are still clear and blended like angels.
They got into drugs etc because of all the stress of being together 24/7. I can't imagine being w my bro 24/7. They needed a break and were forced into it. Thanks be to God they found each other again.
Part of that was how they used their voices. Natural vocal production, the way traditional music is sung. They grew up with traditional singing, and I believe that was a great influence on them.
I love this slightly slower version of “Walk Right Back”. It’s almost as if Don and Phil harmonize telepathically. Musical perfection. And speaking of perfection, these guys definitely inherited the great hair genes.
Walk Right Back Who's watching this great song in 2021 like me? Memories of those far-off day? Memories tinged with sadness ? Reminiscences and Memories crowded your mind? Long lost friend? or heyday of your life? I want hear your stories if it's possible. I can hear your voice in the sound of silence. Thank you for sharing your precious stories.
Approximately 24 years after they first released this song, and it still sounds great. They sound great. Certain compositions are timeless. They're classic.
I was lucky see the Everlys in Houston in '87. I sat in the second row and they were on a revolving round stage, surrounded by the audience. I've seen some good shows over the years but these guys were THE best, no question. This tops seeing McCartney twice and the Beatles are my favorite band, but this concert truly was thrilling.
I would never have thought the song's performance could ever be improved, but this slight slowing takes it to another level I didn't think was possible.
Rest In Peace, Don. Last week (aug 16, 2021) I purchased the Walk Right Back 7" with Picture Sleeve and it was my current favorite song... Condolences from a fan in Mexico
They last toured in 2005, I was at their last UK gig at Ipswich, we can only hope they will tour again, but if not, we can only thank them for their great contribution to the music of our time.
A great day for the Everlys; on this date in 1961 {Jan. 30th} "Walk Right Back" and the flip side "Ebony Eyes" both entered Billboard's Hot 100 chart and both would eventually peak in the Top 10. "Walk Right Back" reached No. 7 while "Ebony Eyes" made it to No. 8!!!
I hear John and Paul...Paul and Artie....Jan and Dean...Brian and Carl and Mike...and a thousand others...male and female. God Bless The Everly Brothers....
I listen to every form of music there is and yet I always return to the Everly Brothers. They're the best. And the root of so much more. Still relevant. Does anyone know if they still tour?
@johnnyrebangel I know what you mean, I met them just once, and I often think when I hear them sing "Wow! those voices once actualy spoke to me" fantastic!
Thanks Phoebus, you are quite right Walk Right Back was written by Sonny Curtis. The reason the Everlys left out the second verse is that they were under pressure to go into the studio, so Sonny gave them the song unfinished, by the time he came back to them with the other verse the recording was already in the can. ( have put a reply on rickee's thread)
Is it any wonder why The Beatles were so inspired by the terrific harmony from The Everly Brothers? And there were also the late, great Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, and there was the late, great Buddy Holly & The Crickets that motivated The Beatles to eventually become R&R immortals, even in imitating their insect name (Beetles), but spelling it in regards to music. The world of pop music owe these greats a huge debt of gratitude for some of the greatest music ever written or performed in the past 60 years.
Few things in life are better than an Everly brothers song.
love your sentiments
Been listening to the Everyl's since I was 15 and now 76 and it does not get any better than this.
I turned 75 March 20 and still listen to this music.
I was 10, now 73 and still listening❤️❤️
i'm right there at 71

Very true. Graham Nash talks about them a lot in his book

The Constitution and The Everly Brothers - two of America's greatest contributions to human history.
Well said....
I bought this single on my fourteenth birthday. Still love it. Now 74
Everly Brothers made really wonderful songs, like this.

Those boys were incredible singers in their day.
Everly Brothers were solid harmony from their first cut until their last. They couldn't be any closer in harmony . SOLID.
How could you not like this. R.I.P. Phil.
I love this slightly slower version of “Walk Right Back”. It’s almost as if Don and Phil harmonize telepathically. Musical perfection. And speaking of perfection, these guys definitely inherited the great hair genes.
They had the "Hair of the Gods".
@@toygiants8748 They both had such fabulous hair. Good-looking men.
They’re wearing wigs.
@@justintime42000 fantastic wigs if so
‘Harmonise telepathically’. I like that. That’s spot on. It’s incredible.
Never will be another duo like these men!!! LOVE THEM!
Gone but never will be forgotten.
Really brings back memories.

Approximately 24 years after they first released this song, and it still sounds great. They sound great. Certain compositions are timeless. They're classic.
Class and talent can't be beat and they had it. Classy and talented.

They look and sound AMAZING. Nothing on the radio today touches them. P-diddy, whatever. They're all dwarves next to these guys.

It is not your imagination - he did lift the rift. The Everly's were an early influence on Neil - he even inducted them into the R&R Hall of Fame.
They were singing at Her Majesty's Theatre in London in November 1985.
