I was searching for methods to paint over cured bedliner, clicked on this video because the thumbnail looked like my truck, and then I realized that this is my truck. I had no idea there was a video of the process. Well done man.
Well it's obvious the guy who sprayed it, doesn't know basic techniques for spraying large objects or detailed work. You don't stop the spraying in the middle of a section/panel. You go all the way to the end. Otherwise it's likely to leave buildup of thicker material or paint in middle of the section. For even layering.
This is great. I was born and raised in a crappy area of london and worked hard for my nice things, and even sprayed up my motorbike really nice at the time. But couldnt have nice things because someone was always wanting to destroy or steal it. So i made it a rat bike, sprayed matt and satin black, made it look crappy and no more interest was taken. I actually like the look of the whole rat rod styles now and its something that has just stuck. But this is next level, love it and wanna get some. Looks great. Nice one mate.
This was so bad ass. It makes me want to do it myself rather than paying for it. I spray paint and sand furniture....I just might be up for the challenge.
I made contact with a guy I know looking at a 2006 F150 roof in bad shape, Hood paint is gone with a little bumper paint in the front almost 3 grand. Just getting the damn hood and bumper, I fix the roof-- still 1,100.00 here we sit in Late Nov 2024 and Xmas on the way I can do it my damn self and the hell with it. The cost was almost more than the Truck is worth, Blue book. It's a great truck and dependable for any trips. Getting a New truck or used 500 dollar minimum car payment, Nah! I'm good.
My dad recently bought an '87? 442 (T-tops etc). Previous owner blacked out the entire car. Tbh, it looks badass. Difference here is he didn't block out Everything. Most of it though
I have a 2010 KIA SOUL (yeah, I know, not exactly a "TUFF" kind of ride). I bought it new in 2010, and it is def showing its age, with scratches, dings, and fading. I have been thinking about trying to do something like this to it for quite a while! I don't have the means to do it myself, and I don't even know where to begin to look for someone who could do it, and do it right!
For anyone interested they sell liners that come in certain colors, ive seen black, both Tan and green cammo colors and red. Could be more colors but im not too sure
In case anyone is interested for a little more money you can get raptor liner brand bed liner that is tintable. You just add some of your choice of color of base coat paint and mix.
This looks cooler than I thought. I was planning on just doing the rocker panels on my titan but now I think I want to do the entire truck. Hopefully we get another stimulus check to fund this project lol.
I've always wanted to do this. I had an 83 full size Blazer that I wanted to do in and out this way. Have even considered doing it to my 2007 durango 4x4.
Believe it or not. I got laughed at doing this to my uncles old beat up Trans Am he gave me back in highschool when the dinosaurs roamed. Well, first I hit it with high heat matte. Then I coated it. I have a 1984 Chevy Silverado. I am at the point of restoration to possibly paint the exterior or apply a wrap to it. I really like the spray in bedliner look for the exterior of the truck. Can somebody give me a general idea of about how many gallons it takes to do a typical truck and about what the cost would be if you were to have someone do it. Is it is much as a regular paint job. If someone could give me some indication, I would appreciate the input.

Thanks for taking the time to share this. How much paint/cans of adhesion promoter did this truck take? Just looking to compare to a 2 door coupe. Much appreciated man.
Hi ya! Hey I am getting ready to rework an 01 Tahoe. How do you think a Candy Apple Glitter would look over this finish? Girls need durable stuff to ya know. BTW I'm not a girly girl but there's something about that glitter red drawing me back. Thanks for the video!
Wow! You have such a nice property! I want land like that sooooo badly. I am saving for my own farm, Lord-willing. How did you go from smooth paint to the speckled, bumpy style? I have heard that if you coat a truck in DuraMax bedliner, it is basically bulletproof. Any idea if this is true, or how to make it so? I do know if yoy fill your home walls with gravel it'll do the job.
instead of painting on top of the bed liner he should have just used tinted bed liner that was already the color he wanted (Gray) So it's actually better that he left it black/unpainted.
So far so good. The bed had a spot where it flaked up, so it got touched up. It happened like the second day so I'm guessing a contaminant got on that specific spot lowering the adhesion.
@@SCAquatics Thanks! I made mistake of using Rustoleum etching primer in spots in my bed prior to spraying Raptorliner. Guess where the only spots that "popped" off, lol. I will never use that stuff again. Was wondering how the Rustoleum bed liner held up, so now I know. Cheers!
I’m in South FL. Where you guys located? Maybe I could bring mine by and you guys could paint it for me for a certain price? I’ve had two back surgeries and just can’t do things like that anymore.
I think it was 1800-2k parts n labor. Not sure what it compares to in your area but around here just to get a bed done is 500.00. Not positive on coats (3?). I know the bed is sprayed thicker for more use.
@@SCAquatics I'm in upstate NY in the mountains. My buddy had his jeep done at a shop and he said 3k. We take the jeeps in the mud, it seems like the only problem I can see is after washing the jeeps he can't get all the debris off because of the texture. I think he's just using a garden hose, so maybe a pressure washer will clean off all the debris. If not, I don't want to pay 3k for it to look like crap after getting muddy. In that case, just roll it on and spend $200. Lol thanks for responding back.
anyone got any tips on how to remove it on a whole truck or atleast paint over it because i bought a truck that has a bedliner paint job but it looks bad like it’s patchy and i can see the original red color that the truck was, it’s been on it for years tho the guy said
I prep/spray bedliner onto maintenance truck bodies for a living and we sand the areas that are going to be sprayed with 80 grit sandpaper after taping off and covering all overspray areas. Just make sure you blow off all dust and debris before you spray.
You can. I believe U-Pol directs that anyone trying to clear coat over the liner needs to slightly scuff the liner before hand though which imo takes away some of the shine of fresh cured liner and negates the intent behind adding clear
I used to do a lot of trucks this way. Been looking at doing a 2001 ford f250 now but all Bedliner sim looking at are tintable. What brand did untouched use. I used to use DuPont Laquita base but not available anymore.
Do you do one heavy coat with the bedliner? Like obviously not dripping but a thick coat or still multiple thin? And at what stage do you peel the tape off
Cool, a coworker has been talking about doing the same thing to his 91 F150.

The fact that at 4:34 the guy spraying it shows off his CCW while painting is my favorite part of being American... 🤣👍
I saw it too hahah
You don't need one in places with freedom see your local laws
Doing a crazy drag truck build and using bedliner for the paint
Bed liner will add drag to your truck. When inches count, bed liner will cause you to come up short.
If you put two stage clear coat over it, it will make it glossy and it will make it twice as stronger 👍
This was so bad ass. It makes me want to do it myself rather than paying for it. I spray paint and sand furniture....I just might be up for the challenge.

I know a dude who did white raptor liner on his civic lol. It also has a greasy hood stack with a flapper.
why wouldn’t you mix the paint with the bedliner?
For anyone interested they sell liners that come in certain colors, ive seen black, both Tan and green cammo colors and red. Could be more colors but im not too sure
Durabak and Raptor have many colors to choose from.
One technique is to use a spray gun and apply a coat with 20-30% of dilution to cover in black and it's quicker. The 2nd coat is to create the texture
In case anyone is interested for a little more money you can get raptor liner brand bed liner that is tintable. You just add some of your choice of color of base coat paint and mix.

To tell you that too I don't like it how it look on that truck but I seen all the oldest one and it look pretty cool
I been doing this as well lately it's cheaper and fast then paint.the customers usually choose the bed liner over a new paint job.

how much liner did it take to do the entire truck?
What's the name of the adhesion promoter and where can I get it? Thanks

4-5
Was this the rustoleum bedliner on the exterior as well? Or was it a different brand?
Good question
Raptor bedliner. So far and extremely beyond any other spray in liner. Make sure u get the sand off it, or it'll never leave O.O
What different bed liner was used for the bed?
What kind of bedliner was used on the outside?
Looked like he used the gallon can of rust oleum truck bed liner.
Was wondering what you used to scuff/ prep to get the bed liner to adhere to the surface?
