It's crazy to me how many of my friends I have tried to show this album to only to have them dismiss it or actively not like it. I'm like are we listening to the same album rn? So weird
@@dimitriasimov356 I've had the same experience. I think they hear the bubblegum pop outer shell and dismiss it without letting the full image develop. They all look at my like I'm crazy for suddenly liking "commercial" sounding pop music. I'm trying to get them to realize that it's brilliance is how much in works *in spite* of using commercial pop tropes that have been done to death. I'm having a "friendsgiving" house party this weekend and I fully intend to play the album on repeat the entire time until they all accept it's brilliance lol
I think it's because everything they do is just sooo tasteful. Just like artists like Pink Floyd, Steely Dan and Deftones before them, they just mesh so many different sounds gloriously. Truly a gift.

"It really rewards an ungaurded listen" was beautifully put. I had never listened to them before I saw Imaginal Disk getting mentioned and decided to check it out and I had a similarly emotional experience. It's phenomenal. 100% agree with how you described the production quality as being miles beyond what it actually needed to be. This album would've still been an album of the year contender if the production quality was half as lush as it was. It really does feel like a new benchmark for what an album can and should strive for.
First time watching a BTIM video in a while but your analysis is spot on. Being able to produce such meaningful comparisons in real time on a first listen sets you above most other reaction tubers. You’ve upped your game big time well done
@ pretty close to perfect so i guess a 9. but i don’t like condensing all my feelings about a piece of art down to an arbitrary number, or “ranking” as if we’re comparing it to other art. what makes one album a 7/10 and other an 8/10? so many different factors
First time watching your channel because I'm a fan of this album and have enjoyed watching people experience it. Thank you for your passion and openness in expressing how you felt while listening. This album is an ocean of calling from our future higher self and a ready-made sonic unification of light and shadow within us. Looks like you got the download. Big Love!
I have being a metalhead for over 20 years and I can not denied that this album is a masterpiece, a work of art that proves thar there are great music on any genre. I F love this imaginal disk.
Totally felt the same, so beautiful it makes me cry. This has to be top 3 all time for me and I’m an old grunger from the 90’s, normally very dismissive and critical of new stuff, but this is simply phenomenal
this album was honestly so beautiful, i love seeing my favorite reviewers get to experience this for the first time. i like it more and more every time i come back to it.
You know what this album feels like to me? Has anyone ever played the game katamari damacy? For those that haven't the premise is you have to rebuild the stars in the sky using a little sticky ball and you have to roll up different things on earth. This is the musical equivalent of that. I feel like they rolled up 50s jazz, 60s psychedelia, 70s funk, 80s New Wave, 90s grunge and house and trance music, and a little bit of 2000 emotional pop punk. It's all perfectly blended and crafted and I love it!
I love Katamari Damacy and your analogy! It really does feel like the different genres are coming back at random intervals as if they were being rolled around on a globe.
Totally unrelated but 10 minutes ago I watched a jeopardy clip where the answer was katamari damacy and I’d never heard of it before and then I see this now and did a double take 😭
Thank you for this Brad! I honestly loved your reaction, it gave me more insight into the lyrics so thank you for that! Last time an album made me feel like you felt, it actually was with the new Aurora album: What happened to the heart? It’s actually my album of the year and I think you would enjoy it it’s masterfully produced and written! Cheers🌟
01:01:24 "taking sounds that seem to be a bit of a trope for an older style but done in a way that ist so masterfull that it could be basically be a blueprint for generations of music like this ..." - yeah. wow, I feel the same.
This is my favorite react video to this album and I've watched a lot of them. This album really had a profound impact on me too. When you look into the lore and understand what it's all about (basically a journey of personal growth and change) and it just hits some people hard.

this album genuinely lobotomized me
Matt and Mica are geniuses. Simply incredible music
Edit: also Nick is an exceptional drummer. He does some insane stuff on this album
I love how the songs flow together. I basically think of Vampire in the Corner and Watching TV as one song now.
