I had the opposite experience in Colombia. A bad taxi driver stole my iPhone in Medellín. I tracked the phone to a bad neighborhood in the south where he changed the phone’s name to Juan’s iPhone. The cops were more professional and helpful than I’ve experienced anywhere else in the world. They met me in the neighborhood and we tracked the phone to a six story apartment building. I assumed that was the end of it, because I knew the location but not what floor of the building it was on, but the cops said they knew of a taxi driver with a reputation for stealing phones. We went to his apartment and knocked. In that moment my iPhone went offline, so it was obvious he was there and knew the cops had found him. The police asked us to go to our taxi and pretend to leave. Meanwhile they wandered the neighborhood pretending they were still trying to track the phone. The trick worked. The phone thief made a run for it and we caught him. I was blown away by how effective and dedicated the Medellín police were.
@@TheFruitingChamber of course I used a passcode. Not sure how he got around it, but I know the thief jailbroke the phone, and I was surprised I could still track it after he did that. I could have simply reported it lost/stolen to Apple to make the phone useless to him, but fortunately I didn’t immediately do that because I wanted to try to recover it first.

you gotta be pretty street savvy in Colombia, I typically visited less touristy places, but typically left my jewelry, phone, passport, most cash in the hotel rooms safe and only brought $20 a passport copy with me, when walking around the city. If two guys on a bike pull up next to you and stick a gun to your head, thats pretty easy to give up. Also, not dressing like a tourist and walking around with a backpack and all that, is a pretty good idea. Just trying to blend in and always being aware of your surroundings
That’s easy bro but it may not be such a good idea to leave all your valuables behind when they stick a gun to your head and kidnap you , they would be more pissed off if you don’t have valuables or any ransom money but trust me you’d come up with ways to give them the money after you have been tortured . Unfortunately this is what is happening know . When they kidnap their victims they don’t care if they have anything on them because they know they would get it through torture . The lucky ones are released alive but most simply disappear . Colombia is just not worth it
We’ve been in bogota for 2 months and moved last week in Medellin and I’ve heard a lot of things about robbing in Colombia. But thankfully, we’re still safe. The people are so friendly and helpful. Been travelling in all parts of Colombia for over ten years, never been robbed. But I don't walk around with the equivalent of 3-4 months average Colombian wages in my waist band! (would you walk around anywhere downtown, USA with $8,000 hanging outta ur pocket?) If you expect and plan to be robbed, you probably won't be! Only carry what's easily replaced and maybe don't wave a $1200 phone/camera around in the street in 3rd world country. Colombia: the people, the scenery, the food, the prices are a wonderful btw.
if you travel a lot you suppose to know to keep money wallet cell phones out of site/reach of people especially as a tourist, and you suppose to blend in. Probably expects the regular ass cops to pull out the StingRay and go full CIA/NSA mode. 😂 ("small brained american") it's probably just a clickbait title, like cops in any country will not do any serious investigation for basic theft, only thing to do is file a rapport and claim insurance.

Yup me too ! I live in Thailand and gotten bitten by one , had to go to docs ,was given antibiotics. The pain was unbelievable and my leg swole to trice its size .
I was raised in Cartagena until 06', my parents used to take my siblings and I to Tairona every summer in our Renault wagon. We also went into the Sierra Nevada, beautiful jungle with ice cold rivers. It used to be way less popular and crowded in the early 90's! Very Fond memories. Sadly Cartagena has been going through a very rough spot since covid and since illegal immigration from Venezuela. The future looked extremely bright in 2010ish, but horrible city management, overbuilding, overtourism, sex tourism, drug tourism, violence etc. has almost completely ruined the city. It's just a mere shadow of how tranquil and beautiful the city used to be. In my 18 years living there I never got robbed or never heard of anyone I knew experiencing it, but nowadays, I'm not surprised, especially in the area you were walking through. The cops are just extremely underpaid (and sometimes not even paid) locals who have extremely low morale and motivation....unless you bribe them.
Maybe i have lived in NYC for to long, but when a street thief snatches your phone & a random Colombian with a gun intervenes, gets your phone back you video title should be Colombian superhero saves me from my own stupidity rather than your robbery aspect of it. The cops realized you got your phone back eventually. Moved on to a quick English lesson, Cartagena sounds cool as.
I know the feeling after being robbed, but you indeed got very lucky. These things tend to happen when you least expect them. I got mugged in the center of Rio De Janeiro - they took everything except for my clothes. This was not even the only such happening there. Kidnappings are also common in South America. Most people are good but you never know who is the mugger low-life or tries to scam you. Don't look too rich, or avoid acting like a confused tourist is my advice.
Protection of tourists is SO important for a developing country. Otherwise it prevents tourists from visiting and creates a bad reputation for the whole country. Even the smallest of crimes has a MASSIVE impact. Columbia the one country this guy gets robbed in. Quite telling.
Lol idk where you're from. But here in America , cops wouldn't have done a damn thing either. He wasn't robbed because he still has his phone. It was an attempted robbery. And he has no proof. I got my windshield smashed in, had texts from the guy who did it, knew his address, and the cops still couldn't do anything except write a report and tell me I had the option to take him to court. Which I did. But what do you expect? Lol
I have been travelling around the world for a long time, thankfully. The only times I had problems were in France. As an Italian that was awful, twice.
@dawatislamiarmyoftheummah we were insulted, followed and attacked at a party where they threw bottles at us. In another occasion also assaulted and threatened.
New to your channel, but I think it's pretty awesome. The one bizarre thing though is that you sound so familiar when i hear you speak. I think its because your mannerisms and sayings sound exactly the way my friends and I sound when we're around each other. Hopefully you take that as a compliment. Anyways keep up the good work, and maybe we'll swing by Patreon soon as well. Thanks again
Even in the States cops don't do much when you get robbed. They'll file a police report and tell you that they will look into it and you probably won't hear much from them after that, unless it's an extremely easy case to solve.
I went fishing in the quabbin resivoir walked through woods to restricted part . Had about 30 halgrimites . They each caugbt a fish or got stripped within an hour . I found a centipede and put it on hook , not even a bass would bite it . After each halgy didnt last a minute without a bite . Yeah centipedes are venomos but i didnt know even a fish wouldnt hit it .
Hey bro as a Colombian-American from NYC who has been to 20 countries and counting, you're going to get robbed when you walk around a third world country with technology found in mostly upscale countries. Even if you don't get robbed, you're asking for it. Not saying you shouldn't make these travel vlogs but you can't be so shocked when you are drawing a lot of attention on yourself. Keep up the great work bro, stay safe!
Yeah sir Francis Drake was a pirate who worked for Queen Elisabeth I, he pillaged the Spanish all over South America and california. My mum works in his house as a tour guide here in England.
Im a decently experienced traveler. Backpacked Mexico, Thailand, and i have a family house i visit in Jamaica often. Semi fluent in Spanish and let me tell you, Cartagena is no joke. There's a lot of positives but the negatives really cancel it out. Fun party scene but man it gets tiring needing to watch your back all the time. I thought i knew all the extortion tricks at playa Hollywood but they tried to pull something on me. Rented umbrella, table, chairs for set price. Lets say 40. Then we drank the tequila we brought for a while. Went to pay and leave and they tried to charge 300usd. Reason was we were drinking on their table? 5 guys surrounded the 2 of us and i argued back in spanish w them. After several minutes i offered 65 and they took it. Still, idk what wouldve happened if a person didnt know spanish. Im not disparaging a whole country. Id like to see more of Colombia bc im sure its better than cartagena. Those hagglers on the beach put the Jamaicans to shame. Ive felt safe in tourist spots like cabo san lucas and negril and non tourist like the jamaican bush, mexico city, and chiapas. But cartagena is the wild west.
The rappers were great.....so much passion and expertise.......all in. Regarding the robbery: Local thieves all around the world will always exploit a seen weakness if we have one. At that time, you had a few. I am sure you have cleaned up your walk since then. Thanks for the vid.
my only travel outside the US ..... 2008 to Bogota which was not fun..some good food and nice shopping mall but very noisy .... however we took my GFs Jeep on a road trip and stayed in Villa de Leyva for a few days .... HIGHLY recommended ... the locals are very friendly , , the town is very historic , the hotel was super nice , the food was fantastic and we took a hike into the jungle and repelled in a 100ft waterfall ....
Also it would be wise to carry your backpack in front so it would turn to frontpack Or else you might find one day all your pockets opened while you focused on something else Saw that happening in touristy areas a lot
Does not matter if you are a tourist or a local as far as flashing expensive items on your person. Inside the walls of Cartagena one is pretty safe because of concentration of police and you are in a contained area. But outside the walls in the street is a different situation and Cartagena neighborhoods beyond the condos are people scrapping for a living.
What have been you guys' experience in Colombia? Do you feel like it's a safe country?

I rode my motorcycle from Portland to Ushuaia Argentina and never experienced any problems. I stayed in Bogota for 3 days.
Dude you should have way more subscribers.
Wait you got you’re phone back and you’re complaining?? Dude you just got blessed!! Be happy
He moans a lot this one
what do want the cops to do? the guys that took you're phone is long gone...
You never thought you could get robbed? Do you live under a rock? People are victims every day. It’s not a move dude!
Glad ur ok!!
Drake was known as 'El Draque' (the Dragon) by the Spanish. Was supposedly burried at sea in full armour near Panama City but never been found.
Damn, those rappers were actually pretty decent!
That cigar shop was epic!
Yes,y do cops do nothing!🤦♀️
Remember all seeds are cuban tobacco it just depends the soil it is grown in but its all cuban seed
"who knows what the day holds" *smiles*
Glad you're doing well McBee. Tim PC12
Yoo same to u brotha!!
The freestyle was insane good
New to your channel, but I think it's pretty awesome.
Those free stylers are so talented
Even in the States cops don't do much when you get robbed. They'll file a police report and tell you that they will look into it and you probably won't hear much from them after that, unless it's an extremely easy case to solve.
I went fishing in the quabbin resivoir walked through woods to restricted part . Had about 30 halgrimites . They each caugbt a fish or got stripped within an hour . I found a centipede and put it on hook , not even a bass would bite it . After each halgy didnt last a minute without a bite . Yeah centipedes are venomos but i didnt know even a fish wouldnt hit it .
Says no one does anything out the generosity of heart .... yet prepared to haggle prices wherever when the haggle gains 50c
Im going to Dominican Republic in a year for our spanish class trip
Hey bro as a Colombian-American from NYC who has been to 20 countries and counting, you're going to get robbed when you walk around a third world country with technology found in mostly upscale countries. Even if you don't get robbed, you're asking for it. Not saying you shouldn't make these travel vlogs but you can't be so shocked when you are drawing a lot of attention on yourself. Keep up the great work bro, stay safe!
Yeah sir Francis Drake was a pirate who worked for Queen Elisabeth I, he pillaged the Spanish all over South America and california. My mum works in his house as a tour guide here in England.
that rap was amazing
OMG! What an adventure!
Type 2 fun haha
Walking around with an iPhone in your waistband will see someone help themselves to it sooner or later😆
Also everything is a fake. Don't pay for expensive liquor or cigars. The bottles are different and they change the labels. Watch out
I cant believe someone saved your phone!
Bet'chu you liked that bus ride better than that train ride in India 😂
Exactly
Pretty wild!!. Every one is armed! There is good and bad everywhere.
The rappers were great.....so much passion and expertise.......all in. Regarding the robbery: Local thieves all around the world will always exploit a seen weakness if we have one. At that time, you had a few. I am sure you have cleaned up your walk since then. Thanks for the vid.
I don't know what they're saying, don't know what's happening, just going along for the ride.... Can't believe I got robbed!
my only travel outside the US .....
That's Colombia for you. My friend got his phone stolen by a pickpocket in the Medellin metro. I'm never going back to Colombia.
16:03 they just snapped so hard and idek what they said
that bug is NARLEYYYY
Also it would be wise to carry your backpack in front so it would turn to frontpack
Or else you might find one day all your pockets opened while you focused on something else
Saw that happening in touristy areas a lot
I love getting that culture shock when I travel. U make me want to goooo
UNA PENA...Colombia esta plagada de DELINCUENTES como todo país subdesarrollado...
