Thank you for these set of videos on this 30 hp motor, I have the tiller handle version showing up in the next week or so, I am really looking forward to it getting here.
It is definitely a sleek cowling design but it seems flimsy, not sure how the Tohatsu one is but I did call around to check out some other brand motors before deciding and it came down to what was in stock. Since my boat was already rigged for Mercury and I was able to use my old prop, and the only dealer nearby was Mercury that had ONE in stock, it was the obvious choice to go with.
I priced one to replace my 2016 20 Mercury 4 stroke . The tiller with electric start is 5100 at my local dealer. My 20hp has E-start and power tilt and is close the same wright. Can I ask what size boat your pushing? I have a 1548 Alweld Tunnel and get 24mph loaded with a 9pitch SS prop. I really don't want to put the max HP on the boat to keep the weight down for going in shallow water and on wildlife management areas. This new 30hp looks to be a really good size. When I add one person to my boat that's is when the 20 looses speed.
Hey Mark, does that one come with the new smartcraft capability for trolling? I’ve seen some new 30’s that have the capability at a few dealers. Does your tag say it’s the 500cc model?
LOL, I 100% agree with you, but I guess that’s where they were able to reduce the weight the most. When the motor is in the water and you can’t see the skinny lower unit so it looks fantastic :)
@@foghole9449 considering all the gears inside are smaller along with the casing probably wouldn’t want it to hit anything at speed without it destroying itself.
@@guccigang6287 ive taking a few lower units, skegs off at WOT but also bumped a few rocks at lower speeds and no damage done. I guess I'll probably let you and some others be the ginnea pigs for me :). Looking forward to your boating video, want to hear what it sounds like.

You’re welcome! Have fun and be safe out there, but most of all don’t forget to give thanks to the big Boss for the blessing. :)

Looks great!
What about the gap between the motormount and the stern?
I picked up the new Tohatsu mfs30d (same motor I believe) after a 3 month wait. The Merc cowling certainly looks nicer!

The motor is mounted on a 1648 Grizzly Tracker all welded boat.
What size prop?
Where did you purchase your floor covering is it a specific brand? Looks great
Thanks. I bought it from eBay. Here is the link www.ebay.com/itm/254433531230

We’re did you get your controller and linkages from, I just got the 25 and would prefer not to get the controller from bass pro
It came with my previous mercury motor which I purchased off Marketplace.

Lol, thanks
Do The new ones not have pull start also?
Unfortunately no, I guess when their goal is to make the motor as light as possible these are the things the consumer have to deal with.
@@igotdeelz that's a horrible move! What if you get down river and your battery is dead? I don't think I will buy one without pull start
how much did you pay for it
$5070
Good video (no offfense) but that motor looks like a toy I mean that lower unit is tiny

@@igotdeelz glad you enjoy it!!
Thinking of one myself...that lower unit does seem tiny though, wonder how much of a hit it would take.
Have fun and enjoy.
