I love this comparison :) I have both and love them equally! I strictly use my Midori for my real food adventures, special occasions and traveling whereas the Hobonichi is more for my random daily things. I love how you customized your Midori
Thanks so much for this comparison! I've been wanting to get into journaling but I haven't been able to decide between Midori or Hobonichi. Seeing you flip through both side by side has been very helpful.
I've got both and love them for different reasons. Did want to mention in case no one has? Hobonichi does carry inserts for business cards and photographs. Along with field note sized booklets for quick jotting. To me they seem nearly the same as far as accessories go, but with the exception of paper variations. The Midori does have that covered :) Love your videos and can't wait for more updates on the Pan Am version!
Mrs Macarons You're so very helpful, thank you so much!! I'm loving the pan am version so far :) I will post an updated video if I find something interesting to talk about haha Thank you so much for your support :)
Thank you for this video! :) I've been using a traveler's notebook as a wallet for the past year, but I'm now thinking about trading it for a hobonichi. This was extremely helpful!
Love the comparison video! I'm itching to get a hobonichi but I'm telling myself not to be too greedy, lol. I remember you mentioning the paintbrush pens from Daiso being a good quality so I'll definitely have to check it out! Thanks for posting!
Yours, CMTN Perhaps you could ask one for your birthday ;) I enjoy using the paint markers from Daiso, but to be honest I have nothing to compare it with so I don't know if they're really good hehe Thanks for watching!
Loved the in-depth comparison!! I absolutely adore both my Midori and my Hobonichi, too :) Now that I have a Hobonichi I am using that as an illustrated daily journal, whereas my midori is more of a private journal I turn to when I really need to write a lot and get something out of my system. I love both so much :D Now that I know how wonderful the light weight midori paper and the tomoe river paper are, I don't understand why the Filofax paper quality is so much poorer! I am honestly contemplating making the switch from filofax to hobonichi (cousin). We will see ^-^
palestblue Ohhhh really~!~! *gasp* Keep us all posted! I was able to see the cousin in person last weekend and was surprised at how heavy it was. It's not thick because the paper is so nice and thin, but it's quite heavy (for me anyway lol)
MyLifeMits I can't wait to hold it in my handy :D I really wished there were stores in Germany that sold it!! It would be so wonderful to be able to see it in person before making the purchase...
So I am looking for a fauxdori that can be found in a5 and I considered the hobonichi techo cousin but it seems difficult to put in more than one insert and shipping is a bit pricey, do you have any recommendations?
Hello! I think the hobonichi cousin won't be ideal if you want to use it for multiple inserts - there are many many fauxdori makers out there and many of them make the A5 size. Try searching on Etsy for an A5 fauxdori OR you can also search in one of the facebook groups that sell fauxdoris. There are many people out there that sell their old covers for a cheaper price :) One of the group names: Traveler's Notebook & Accessories ISO/BST, good luck! I hope you find what you're looking for :)
Of course not :) It is your hobonichi, you can do whatever you want to do. Some days I just wrote and journal, some days I practise brush lettering or just stick washi tape and stickers.. Sometimes I just glue memorabilia from places I have been to. I have also done some collage and painted my pages with no writing too:) it's totally up to you how you want to use it :)) Most importantly, have fun and do what makes you happy xoxo
i love your journals, mits! i have both of these as well and i'm a bit lost with how i want to use them. the midori used to be exclusively for art journaling but now i have the hobo and feel like i should use it for art too because of the wonderful paper. i must admit i've had the hobo for almost a month now and have only done a pen test page and a drawing on one other page. i guess i just feel like the midori and the hobo serve the same purpose and i don't know which one i want to use. hmmmm...
foundandmade Thank you so much! Oh no :(( Use it the way you want to use it. Don't worry too much about the paper. Perhaps one day you feel like writing about your day in your Hobotech, go for it. Maybe one day you'll have an itch to do some art or doodling, go for it. Just do whatever it is you feel like doing that specific day.. To be honest, I haven't really touched my FF in weeks. Looks like we both have a bit of planner/journal dilemma hehe
I use both my hobo is more daily but if I miss a day or want to a longer day I just washi out the date as she like my dear diary to help get all my sadness out if me. It my place to honest but love the midori for more creativity side. But love both heaps.
Toni Parker I'm glad to hear that you're able to work with both and that you've got what works for you. I tend to do "dear diary" style of writing in my Midori from time to time :)
The Techo is now available from the Journal Shop in the UK - they say for the first time in Europe. But, for the price, I went for a second Midori, purely on aesthetics and customisability!
Love your videos so much! Do you think you could do a quick video on the hobonichi covers? I have actually found it confusing - it looks like you have a cover over the cover and then a plastic cover over that? Anyway, thank you!!
I change my pen holder so often because I feel like they never fit right whenever I change my pens around. I end up just using a bulldog clip instead most of the time hehe Thanks for watching!

thank you for the comparision; it was very nice to see both side by side
Great video!!! I was originally in love with the midori, but then I fell in love with hobonichi. I need to start using my midori again.

I have the Chic Sparrow TN in an A6
must we draw on hobonichi?
I love to have hobonichi but I x have talent on drawing.

and unfortunately they only sell the english planner book, no covers etc. :(
MisterG Wow I had no idea, thank you so very much for that helpful information! I would probably go for a second traveler's notebook too haha

Beth Schramm Thank you so much for watching :) I have written it down and will film it soon :))
Oh my - you are wonderful. Thank you! I really do love your videos.
Do you like your Pen holder?
I change my pen holder so often because I feel like they never fit right whenever I change my pens around. I end up just using a bulldog clip instead most of the time hehe Thanks for watching!
