What other planner would you recommend with thick paper that can be used with ink, markers, fineliners, highlighters, fountain pen, etc.? I need paper that does not bleed easily in order to help me visualize important stuff because of some issues with my eyes. Thanks in advance. (I love your UA-cam channel)
@@verschwenderinI use the hobonichi cousin for dark colors and inks and markers all the time and it doesn’t bleed at all. Also, the drying time really depends on what ink you’re using. My fountain pen ink dries very fast even on this paper. I used a Leuchtterm (I probably misspelled that) and personally just hated it but…. It had much thicker paper
@@verschwenderin Many of the planners we offer feature thinner paper. That being said, perhaps the Mnemosyne or Midori MD planners may be worth taking a look!

Lol, they have a bunch of how to use this planner videos but they all use the jibun techo! Maybe next time they walk us through using a cousin, or even one of the lechtturm planners.
Connie - I love your style in patches and stickers, and I agree with the weekly layout with monthly calendars throughout! If you designed a planner, I would 100% buy it!
I used a Techo HON this year and it’s been a dream. Spent the previous year getting used to the paper, finding optimal pens and pencils, trying out Weeks (👎🏻) and Jibun. I’ve set my alarm so I can order up the A5 Black Gingham HON. Yeeha, baby! 🥳
I like a plain, solid color cover over which I put a cover-on-cover. Then I slip my own art or a favorite postcard into the cover on cover. I haven’t seen any covers I want this year and using my method I can change the cover look anytime
The 1st thing is so real. I tried literally all the Hobos, a Jibun Techo, and TN Inserts before I finally tried the A6 original and realized that a pocket daily planner was the best format for me 😂
I am among the 1% who don't find the Hobonichi Techo useful for my *planning* style. Instead I have the older Day Free (the Fox version! which I regret not getting in A5 because I love the dancing fox so much now) for journalling. The paper is great but I find i prefer to have a lot more structure than the Hobonichi offers at first, and I'm not the kind to make my own. Thank you for this video though, it has made me feel seen.
This video is a honest assessment of the line; I appreciate Connie's comments at the end (why look, they already have THEIR 2025 😉😍. I love the Weeks. I am planning on moving up to the Mega, which may have too many memo pages, but as it's progressing this year, I am going to run out of pages in the regular one. I do love that I can write one line or a paragraph, or note the memo page and spill over into that section, depending on how they day went. As for the dry time, I bought blotter paper and cut it to size, and it works really nicely as a bookmark. I used the gantt chart to identify when I get paid and when holidays happen, I have filled the calendar grid with weather reports/projects that run over a week/doodles. My 100 are books and movies and concerts, and so forth. The techo A5 was too much space per day - teenage me would have loved it, 65 year old me doesn't write every day in great detail (but when I do, I DO). I do use the A5 cover with a blank notebook for sketching, so it wasn't a waste. Saturday can't come fast enough!
Techo Weeks fan here. For years, I'd been using bulky daily planners, which I'd abandon by June/July. But I've managed to stick with the Weeks for 2 years now. I use it for grad school + internship projects + everyday tasks/chores.
Before you buy - cut a piece of paper to the sizes of planner pages you’re considering FIRST - that way you can play with your handwriting size/style and play with layouts you like for daily planning. I wasted a bundle of money on the A6 size only to realize the page size did not work for me - don’t be me!
Great idea! So simple!!!! Gonna do this for travelers regular amd passport size. I've been wondering if I'd like using the narrow regular one- now I can try it! It's so simple! Thank you
Love my Kokuyo Jibun Techo for weekly planning and I'm probably sticking with that (buying from JetPens of course) but I'm also thinking of picking up a 5 year diary from hobonichi
JetPens started my addiction to Hobonichi Techos. I started with the A6 for a year, went back to my Filofax, and then went back to the A6. The only thing I didn't like about the A6 is that there are no weekly spreads. On September 1, I'm going to buy my third Cousin. It has the three formats I want - monthly for reminders at a glance, weekly for planning, and daily for journaling. I took to the thin paper from the get-go because it's fountain pen friendly. Because of its size, I usuallyy don't use the cute cover I bought for it. I just put it in my Delfonics pouch and take that with me. Closer to the end of this year, I'm also going to buy a five-year diary so that I can jot down events and know the turnout of things (e.g., the wars in Ukraine and in the Mideast).
I got my first Hobonichi many years ago, back when you had to order them from Japan. My first Hobo was an A6 original, and it’s still the one that works the best for me. When I was working I also used an A5 that I kept on my desk in the office. I love its vertical weekly pages. Now that I’ve retired I only use the A6 original. My dream planner would be an A6 Day Free if it included weekly pages. I don’t need 365 daily pages, but I miss the weeklies in my A5. I tried the Weeks but I hated the long narrow form factor and the cream colored paper. I’m happy with my A6 original and will be ordering mine tomorrow! 😊
2025 will be my 10th year of daily journaling using the Hobonichi Techo English Planner (A6). There are so many more format choices and features than when I started! I'm buying myself a nice cover to celebrate. They're a joy to use. Check out the weekly calendar accessory if you don't want to commit to a Planner AND a Weeks; it's great for time blocking.
Thanks for the video and information. I’m into my 7th year and I’m happy with my A6 Techo. With daily entries, it’s a great use of different inks and fountain pens. The Tomoe River paper is amazing for all the qualities described. For the odd days that are “busy”, I have a small add-on page that sticks on like a Post-it (but from the side) which is handy. Remember, A5 looks great but it’s very satisfying to have a completely fill Techo at A6 that one with gaps. I can see why there are so many fans…
I got one this year and while I loved it, I kind of dropped it because I just can't get myself to write every day and feel guilty about it (plus I have nothing to plan in my life, I just wanted to keep a diary so my days aren't a blur), so I think I might go for the day-free version next year. Also, not everybody might know this (maybe it's common knowledge but to me it wasn't), but Hobonichi was created by the creator of Mother/Earthbound games!
Jumping in to say that's completely valid and the reason why I too, skipped using the hobonichi dated planners! If you already have a dated one but there's a lot of empty pages, I recommend just writing over/placing a sticker over the date and treating it like a dateless journal! That's what I'm doing with a 2023 version I managed to pick up on discount.
I literally just saw a tiktok of someone "anti-haul"-ing the Hobonichi Weeks because they didn't do research and were shocked by the show-through of the paper LOL it took me a little bit to get used to it but getting a weeks coincided with me getting into fountain pens and I love how ink shows up on the paper so I'm sticking with Hobonichi!!
I think Connie just became my second JetPens Spirit Guide (Ann is still the first, I think of her every day when I use my Uni Alpha Gel, "tThat silicone just collects so much dust!") I didn't like all the months bunched at the front OR the quotes in the Hobonichi, but I did love the paper, so I got some A4 TR-S paper from you and made my own planner with the months spread out through the year. Great video, y'all, thank you!
Aw I loved the outro mini techo kaigi! It gives me ideas for how I could play around with the Hobonichi notebooks for certain planning needs. Love how versatile Hobonichis are! Thanks so much for sharing!
1:21 I love the abundance of Tsukishima and Nishinoiya stickers! I now know what I need for my planner next year haha this video helped me in a way it didn’t mean to lol 😂
I started 2021 with a Jibun Techo that I've been using every since, switched to the DAYS last year. For next year I'm trying out the Hobonichi Cousin, and I'm so excited! I have a countdown on my calendar to when I can order it tomorrow night 😁
What a great video! I finally let go of the Hobonich A6 Techo after buying them for five years running and never using all the pages. It's time to admit that the daily format doesn't work for me. It's more space than I need for jotting down tasks and less space than I need for long-form writing. I've also been using the Weeks and have a lot more success with that. This year I'm trying one Weeks for personal and another for work. I also enjoy the plain Hobonichi notebooks and agree that they can be customized to meet one's needs.
My main planner is the Weeks, but I also have a day free in my desk for when I’m going to have a busy day where I need a full day planner. The undated planners last me a few years. I don’t need them all that often, but it is very helpful to know I have the option to break down a day into more details than the weeks allows.
Also, I'm on the same page, I used the A5 size grid notebook this year and I really enjoyed it for personal planning/journalling/habit tracking. I also used A6 day free for commonplace journaling, which was so good. This year I'm going to get a weeks for work planning/logging too. It will be my first time using weeks.
For years, I've used Cousin for daily life and Original for nightly notes, both in well-worn Midori goatskin covers. I've never wanted anything else, but wow would I LOVE the option of NO QUOTES. I loathe the real estate they take up, and the content is generally inane. The planners would be that much lovelier without that lightweight text at the bottom of each page.
Alright, JetPens; FINE! This year will be the year I finally move over to a Hobonichi. You caught me right in the middle of making an overhaul to my BuJo and this fits the bill quite well. It was meant to be.
I really appreciate your insights and ideas. I've purchased the Hobonichi Techno in both sizes, but this coming year, the price of the A6 planner refill is too much. It's a tiny little notebook! As much as I love the Tomoe River paper, there are other (more affordable) notebooks which include it. Jet Pens carries so many planners and notebooks with lovely paper that are much more reasonably priced. I love the Maruman notebooks lately! I'll never get tired of trying new things!
I know I "see" my time in weeks because I've tried using monthly planners with blank inner pages before, which didn't quite serve my specific needs. I started using Hobonichi Techo Weeks and Kokuyo Jibun Techo Lite this year, and they had been instrumental in keeping track of daily/weekly tasks. I don't necessarily journal, but if I had anything extra thoughts to write down, there are free grid pages in the back of either planner I can use. In terms of thin paper showthrough, I'd say the types of paper in these planners were *nowhere near* as bad as budget-brand paper I formerly hoarded in my youth. The smudging was an issue at the start (seeing as my lightweight Hobonichi Techo Weeks is something I carry in my handbag and therefore needs to close quickly at times), but I eventually layered spare paper to keep the other side of the spread unsmudged.
This year I just got a weeks because I have tried the day free and for journaling is too little space for me and as my “neurodivergent adult trying to survive” book is way too much space. And as much as I want the Hon with the Hiroko Kubota cover, I know a blank notebook is better for my journailng… and yes, Jetpens has helped me decide what is best for me year after year. Much of my purchases have been influenced by you 😅 but so far you have been right every time and I have saved a lot of money tbh.
worth mentioning how some of them are only available in japanese! i wish the day free came in english so i could still read the quotes. seconding others who would like to see jetpens staffs’ planner setups!!
I just bought a cover for the Techo, (i dont have one..) so Im waiting for 2025 to buy one, but this has helped, I kinda thought they were all the same 😂 Also, nice to see Connie back! With a (new?) tattoo! :)
Not me watching this a couple days after I've done a major switch up and ordered the Midori MD Diary A5 1 Day 1 Page 😅 I'm really excited though! I've been doing my own planner in a blank notebook for the past several years, and the notebooks I used to buy just don't have any options I like this year so it was the perfect time to try something new ^_^ I had loved the techos when I was working, but now I'm disabled and don't get out much so I'm in my thick planner era~
I've seen planner layouts that go down the page with the hours and I get a stress burp when I see that. I was going to get a planner to go with the Taschenbegleiter I ordered from JetPens, but I'm going to be in Japan in December so I'll be getting one then. I'm looking for a guy that matches the Roterfaden Layout 3. I like the full week on one side with a sheet on the right. I can make my lists and such right there.
I used MD notebook for 2 years because I only record whenever I got something interested that day so Hobonichi one day one page won't do it But I will try Hobonichi day-free next year because I want to try using their 'extra' pages like my100, my favorite, etc ♡
For my planner I Use the Kokuyo Jibun Techo Biz, the structure is good, but this year I got the Hobonichi One Piece A6 and the cover to me Church Sdudy, so every day I can take notes, I really like it. really good quality paper but for 2025 I will get the English version ❤
Can you do a video on the different planners and the type of paper in each? I'm not a fan of the thin paper but I love the minimal style of the Japanese planners. I'm convinced there's a planner at Jet Pens that would work for me.
wanting your monthly calendars at the start of each month makes me think of the calendar stickers for a different planner brand you guys stock. i guess hobonichi doesnt have one, or she could put one on the blank title page of each month, but it would be a tight squeeze on the a6 to fit a schedule in. unless it had a foldout leaf 🤔...
Thank you… I bought the Hobonichi Techo last year hoping that it would inspire me to journal and plan more but 3 months into it and I fell off the wagon… the planner is great. I love it but now I have to figure out how to use all that nice paper I didn’t use 😢
I used the A6 techo for a couple of years. I cannot adjust to a Monday start, so I purchased the Chinese language version. I tried the Travelers Notebook Weekly and Monthly, but it was 2020, so I didn’t use it as much working remotely. I’m considering giving that another try for 2025.
I got the limited edition Animal Crossing set when it came out, and I really liked it... but I just do NOT get along with pre-dated daily planners. So now I just put some undated refills from Amazon in there. It's a bit awkward, but it's worth it to keep using that case! 😅
I’ve never even seen one of these planners. Don’t think I’m jumping in but I would be interested in seeing more about the notebook mentioned at the end. I don’t want the personal info but I am curious on how it’s set up as well as how it’s used.
I felt that pressure and I felt bad. I have a techno I think is daily but it doesn’t work with me. But I am trying to create the habit. I decided to wait till next year possibly to decide what I would like to buy. I was able to get the cover from spy family in A6 and pencil board. I was happy and can’t wait till the next few months to decide.
For 2025 purchased a Cousin refill (prior purchase included a really nice leather). Since this version is rather heavy, it sits in the kitchen and tracks my life. Also purchased an A6 HON (to carry with me when out and about). I did try the Hobonichi WEEKS… For me, it’s just too small and inefficient. Really liking that the A6 is half the size of the Cousin! Curious if these can be ordered without the pesky quotes…they take up so much writing space.
OK cool I use the plain notebook as well as I found that I never used it daily like I should. Because the covers are so cute I now have 3-4 covers ugh...but keep 2 Techos going. One is for Ideas only! This way I can keep ideas for things I am creating in my art to one book, And the other I use for planning. I found having the blank book I could spread to more than one page or just use one page as needed. So this was great advice for people as I figured that one o after my second year of H.Techo use. However I did not know about the blue books that you mentioned that had planning stuff in it but not dates! I think I would like that even better still so thanks for that advice. ALSO the Jacques Herbin blotter paper is super expensive, does someone out there have less expensive and more sheets in them? Thanks this was great!
while i love the look of Hobonichis, I just love a pocket size so much, and Weeks isn’t small enough for me :p i can’t decide between Leuchtturm1917 and Moleskine Weeks for this (school) year - we’ll see what strikes my fancy
I grabbed a Weeks a month or so ago, I know late for this year. It's a nice size but I think I rather have a vertical weeks format. At first I thought Days would be best but I don't take that many notes in planner. I use for personal and work but my days are vastly taken up by only a few things per day and week. I am hoping to go with a Kokuyo Jibun Techo for that vertical format and some the other small details. I might come back to a Hobonichi or just find a different system as I am mostly digital for work anyhow.
ive been using the hobonichi cousin for 3 years now, but i started to use the weekly layout waaaay less, so i've been playing with the idea of getting to try out a kokuyo jibun techo instead (the daily one), but i saw that the european store i always use doesnt sell them until like 2 months from now, when the hobonichi drops in 2 days qq
I really want to try the hobonichi. I'd like if there was a weekly one in A5 size. That's a shame that there isn't. I really prefer the A5 size. But if they are too big I believe I'd buy the one that comes in two halves. I'm sure I'm not going to use the A6 very well.... I'm still going to decide...
@@JetPens I hope they do make the day free in English I use the A6 techo but I don't write everyday so I feel guilty since I use it as my diary. Maybe next year I will try the weeks instead since its a bit smaller.
I also would love to have monthly pages immediately before weekly pages, but it seems no planner offers that. Would it be possible to see how you set that up in the notebook? Pleaseeee. :)
I've been thinking about getting a new planner for next year, but i haven't been able to find a style i like enough to continue using. So, I usually end up with half used planners that don't fit with how my bags or schedule change :(
Yeah I got a weeks last year and i use a ballpoint and i HATE the showthrough so i can't imagine trying to use my fountain pens and inks on it. But im still thinking about another weeks (so portable) also either an A6 original or day free.
Since the last vid was years ago (maybe i missed some), i was wondering if yall could put together an updated vid for lefties? Showing products that came out after those videos? I wanna get some stationery along with a planner for 2025, I'd appreciate it very much if you guys did 🙏
4:42 I love the paper but prefer the flexibility of the Bullet Journal method. I picked up the plain notebook and will use it as soon as I finish my current A5 journal.
I keep thinking about getting a Cousin, but I'm so conflicted because of the show-through/ghosting. I love the Kokuyo paper in my Jibun Techos, and I keep trying them but end up hardly using them. I tried the Jibun Days, but I don't like the layout- I hate the timeline bar down the middle of the page. I prefer Hobonichi's much more subtle divider. And the Jibun Days doesn't have a weekly layout. Ugh. I wish I could just have a Hobonichi with Kokuyo paper. :( I feel like the best option is to just DIY a planner, but that's SO much work and set-up that my adhd brain doesn't want to do. :(
I wasted my A5 Hobonichi cousins in 2023, I only used the monthly calendar and didn’t love the tomoe river paper as pointed you out in this video, took too long to dry and too thin. I won’t purchase another Hobonichi again

Day-free works for me! I used the dated one for years and had to backfill out of guilt.
I literally just saw a tiktok of someone "anti-haul"-ing the Hobonichi Weeks because they didn't do research and were shocked by the show-through of the paper LOL
it took me a little bit to get used to it but getting a weeks coincided with me getting into fountain pens and I love how ink shows up on the paper so I'm sticking with Hobonichi!!
I'm going into my 4th year in the hobonichi weeks and I love it. such a useful little thing!
The snake print hobonichi is adorable and I want one a lot. 🐍
I love this video with the new releases!
It would be cool to have more details on how you use the notebook as your planner. That's a good idea.
Great video, worth watching if you are new to Hobonichi.
I want to see what your layout is like for the notebook! I’m doing that too this year!
I love mine.. A6 techo and an A5Hon.. or Cousin. I work from both for fun and enjoyment. 🥰 cool content.
I'm also using the notebook!
I just bought a cover for the Techo, (i dont have one..) so Im waiting for 2025 to buy one, but this has helped, I kinda thought they were all the same 😂
Also, nice to see Connie back! With a (new?) tattoo! :)
Not me watching this a couple days after I've done a major switch up and ordered the Midori MD Diary A5 1 Day 1 Page 😅
I'm really excited though!
Oh wow, thank you so much for the suggestions! We will definitely take them into consideration.
@@MantonioBanderas stress burp 😹 that’s beyond cute
That shirt looks so cute! I want one more than I want a new hobonichi cover 😅
I used MD notebook for 2 years because I only record whenever I got something interested that day so Hobonichi one day one page won't do it
But I will try Hobonichi day-free next year because I want to try using their 'extra' pages like my100, my favorite, etc ♡
I use all three for years - weeks, A6 and A5. I have a purpose for each one. 🎉
This looks so satisfying ☺☺
For my planner I Use the Kokuyo Jibun Techo Biz, the structure is good, but this year I got the Hobonichi One Piece A6 and the cover to me Church Sdudy, so every day I can take notes, I really like it. really good quality paper but for 2025 I will get the English version ❤
Can you do a video on the different planners and the type of paper in each? I'm not a fan of the thin paper but I love the minimal style of the Japanese planners. I'm convinced there's a planner at Jet Pens that would work for me.
We just released a video with this information at the end in a summary table: ua-cam.com/video/4hCBkfgqUQE/v-deo.htmlsi=zTX4qw84j2AMe9ZJ&t=346
I gave up on Hobonichi YEARS ago. The day-free one though? I had no idea. I'm back!
wanting your monthly calendars at the start of each month makes me think of the calendar stickers for a different planner brand you guys stock. i guess hobonichi doesnt have one, or she could put one on the blank title page of each month, but it would be a tight squeeze on the a6 to fit a schedule in. unless it had a foldout leaf 🤔...
Yes it is!!! It's the best!!!
I'm trying the OG Cousin for 2025 (I've always been a Day-Free girlie) and I'm so nervous but so excited. WHAT IF I HATE IT? lol but I'm going for it.
I'm on my fourth year in the Cousin, and it really isn't that heavy, actually, especially if you opt for the Avec.
This was great. Could you also do a kokuyo jubin techno video as well? I am on the fence on buying
Choose between Sunday and Monday starts.
Have a book mark with your calendar on it so you can move it around.
Obrigada, esse vídeo foi o que mais me ajudou a escolher meu hobonichi!
Wish I knew about all the calendar pages, etc. in the front. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet. Maybe cover over them with scrapbook paper 😅
while i love the look of Hobonichis, I just love a pocket size so much, and Weeks isn’t small enough for me :p
i can’t decide between Leuchtturm1917 and Moleskine Weeks for this (school) year - we’ll see what strikes my fancy
But I want the Bears! And the Ibushi Kota cover!!
I am surprised you didn't discuss the 5-yr planner.
I wish I could love them. I just can't do the paper!!
ive been using the hobonichi cousin for 3 years now, but i started to use the weekly layout waaaay less, so i've been playing with the idea of getting to try out a kokuyo jibun techo instead (the daily one), but i saw that the european store i always use doesnt sell them until like 2 months from now, when the hobonichi drops in 2 days qq
Thank you
Thanks Connie. Do you tip in your monthlies or draw them out?
I draw them out every month! - Connnie
@@JetPens Oh nice. Less bulk that way 🙂
Do you have a recommendation for fountain pen users, that would be most helpful, thanks!
The paper in the Hobonichi Techo is Tomoe River S and is very fountain pen friendly!
Does anyone know if the day-free will ever be in English?
We'll forward your request to Hobonichi!
Is there a weekly planner without all the Japanese text at the bottom?
just bought the jibun Techo 2025 planner and didn't know that they had one piece covers for the hobonichi and now I am sad lol
Is there a difference between the page layouts of the A5 and A6 Techo Cousin?
They're pretty much the same -- the A5 Techo Cousin has more space on the bottom for notes though!
@@JetPens thanks!
I want to see Connie's layout
how thick are the pages, Fountain pen user, bleed through?
They're Tomoe River S 47 gsm paper, so really thin, but extremely fountain pen friendly. You shouldn't see much, if any bleedthrough!
I wasted my A5 Hobonichi cousins in 2023, I only used the monthly calendar and didn’t love the tomoe river paper as pointed you out in this video, took too long to dry and too thin.
I won’t purchase another Hobonichi again
What's the ink in 1:45? 😭
I want an academic planner
hobonichi should make a plain weeks-size notebook with the same amount of pages
Search around. They exist!
@@marilyngardner4269 i know but i want hobonichi ones because of the various covers as well T__T
