See, this is why we Jews have an Oneg after services. No need to leave the building in a rush. We have food right after services, usually provided by one of the families because little Moshe's just turned 13 or Sarah's made the all state mathletes team. (Unless it's Yom Kippur, and services don't go till sundown, and you have to pack up books after fasting for 25 hours, only to find out that you have to go somewhere else to break the fast... So... Yeah.)
I think Southern Baptist invented dinner on the grounds so the congregation can sneak in some lunch while the rehydrating hydrating after his long sermon. Then when we are all full and relaxed it's back to the sanctuary for a sing.
This is true, because Baptist sermons tend to run longer, so they might not get out of church until 12:10 or even 12:15, giving the Methodists and Presbyterians a chance to get in line at the cafeterias and buffets first :)

It doesn't have to be an emergency or anything like that, they could call to ask a question or to gossip. Most of the time we either busy or eating dinner.
