    She's free and clear because the grandma bought it in bulk!! It was not a gift that was only for the defendant.

      Exactly what I came here to say! Buying gifts in bulk is at least as bad as re-gifting, so they cancel each other out.

    • @Chesh89

      Exactly! It's southern code that bulk gifts are not thoughtful gifts, they are the regift equivalent. I declare this a mistrial!

      Heaven's to Betsy! Everyone knows, no matter what, you never regift a present from Granny! ;) Even if those presents were purchased in bulk for all the grandkids! Ohh what I'd give to still receive those gifts, even though all of us 20+ grandkids (on that side of the family) received them. Lol

      I remember there was a lady I cleaned for said she and her husband got a wooden owl for Christmas one year. They have this running gag with the friends who gave it to them. They write a funny message (like "Guess who's back?") on the owl and then send it in the mail.

      Love when grandma or old aunt stops by your house not too long after giving you the gift. You better have it on display/look like it is in use, as she will take notice if it is not there. After she leaves you can then donate/regift/destroy at your pleasure.

    If a gift is not particularly personal or useful/wanted, it is perfectly acceptable to pass it along to spark joy for someone else. The error comes when one does so within that social circle. Family, work, church, friends, etc. - whichever sector supplied the gift, you must only regift to a different one which has no member overlap.

    • @ErykaSoleil
      @ErykaSoleil 4 роки тому +8

      Kira Ward : One of the most awful aspects of true hoarding is that you *do* think you're going to use it, or that there is a real possibility that you might need it one day (and that if you do get rid of it, you will immediately need it). As someone who's got a bit of family history with it, let me say that hoarding is a very distressing complex for the person experiencing it, and anyone who thinks that it's just laziness or selfishness should really read up on the psychology involved. It can be absolutely debilitating, and it's usuallynot really something the person can control on their own without professional help involved.

I asked her if regifting was okay and she said yes. Turns out, that gift was from another classmate of mine. Imagine the confrontation later. I lied through my teeth. We never spoke again.

    My Grandma regifted stuff all the time. That's why she was soooooooo careful pulling the tape off the wrapping paper. She'd pull just enough off so that she could see what it was and, if she didn't want it, she could just tape it back up and give it to someone else. Don't even have to waste any wrapping paper!
