Hohner was my guitar of choice in the 80's when i could not afford the better instruments at that time. Early Hohner strast and precision bass was made cheap felt cheap and sounded cheap. I think they was made in the former DDR. But at that time it was a reasonable good instrument compared to many chinese guitars today. If i can get the price right i will buy a 6 string Hohner BBass VIQ next week, it depends on if i can get it for less than 526 euro. The top marks of Hohner instruments is marvelous and can be compared with the best instruments you can get. I would recommend the Hohner in the video, Remember Prince had a Hohner builded for him, the The Prince Telecaster model.

I bought the exact same guitar several months ago (used). Despite searching the internet several times this is the first one I've seen that is identical to mine except for the colour. Mine is dark red body with the same scratch plate. the pickups have been upgraded with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and the guitar is superb in sound and playing, I love it! Can anyone out there give me any more info on the model, year and place of manufacture etc?

+Roy Montrose These guitars were made Korea at the Cort factory. They are excellent quality - Cort is a highly respected Korean manufacturer of quality guitars. Originally they came with Kent Armstrong pickups straight from the factory, which are excellent. I have a totally stock one in a Cherry Red (burst) colour, though it's somewhat faded and is almost pink. It's actually a really nice colour. It's very heavy, and as a result has loads of sustain. I also have an earlier (1988) Hohner TE Custom with the same headstock as the Fender Telecasters, but Hohner were forced to change it (to the design that you see in the video above) to avoid legal action from Fender. It's black with gold hardware and looks just like a Fender Tele, except the body is sculpted at the back for more comfort. It cost £175 new in 1988.

+NotMarkKnopfler Thanks for the info. Your right about the weight of the TE it really is heavy but I love it. Great tone with the Seymour Duncan pickups (which were upgraded by the previous owner). I still have the original pick ups. So do you think the TE I have (same as video) is a post 1988?

+Roy Montrose Yes. Yours will be from 1990 onwards. The first TE customs didn't have bound bodies (because they had a contoured body like a strat). They were only made from '88 to '90 and seem to be very rare. Only black and sunburst were available. After the legal action from Fender the headstock was changed and they seemed to re-launch the TE range. The contoured body was gone and the new guitar was a lot heavier. However, from my investigations, there are three types. The Mark I TE custom has a fender headstock, the Mark II has the distinctive 'ridged' headstock, and the Mark III (introduced in 1994) has an un-ridged headstock. I'll put a few photos up and post you a link.
