For those of you who don’t know, this is the exact same blade profile and dimensions as the esee 3 which you can get really good sheaths for $15-18 so don’t let the bad sheath discourage you.
Yo, Tactical south. Do you keep deleting my reply to this dude? I’ve answered him 2 or 3 times already on where he can find the sheaths and they keep getting deleted. So just wondering if it’s you or YT. If it’s you, then why?
I love my RAT 4. I carry it on my belt, scout style. It’s such a powerful tool! Completely indestructible, As you mentioned, it’s perfect size. Not too big, not too small. It also batons like crazy. I haven’t tried rhe RC 3. The sheath on the older version is waaaay better.proper kydex.
Have had mine for a while. I suggest the Knife Connection handle scales. Turns this into something great. Sandpaper finish, no so much. However, it will smooth out with extended use.
The RAT 5 or RAT 7 are the larger versions and better suited for survival. The RAT 5 was my first serious knife and for the money it's a great value. I have abused mine and it has held up very well. The black coating wasn't very durable and I did get an aftermarket kydex sheath for it. Ontario RAT knives will last you many years if not a lifetime being made from tough 1095 High Carbon Steel.
Most of Ontario's stock has been 1075 for over 5 years now, or thereabouts. Reasoning being better toughness, the HRC seems to be pretty high too so should be comparable. And according to the person responsible for the heat treat shop, it should have one of the most advanced facilities in the US. Whether or not this translates well to the finished product who knows.
Good to use this channel in conjunction with your web site. Unless I missed it, thought you could have added more spec info eg blade material etc. Hope to see more reviews Stu
I have one that's about 10 years old and still going despite regular use. The beauty is its simplicity - built for general utility work. Works well as a fixed blade hiking knife. Nylon sheaths get a bad rap but this one is ok. I actually got a kydex one made up but summer in Australia just made the kydex too soft to use - no such issue with nylon (or leather if you go that way). Although prices are going up, this blade is still good value and easy to recommend. Take care.
I will be getting an aftermarket kydex sheath at some stage. It must have been cold in your neck of the woods, our winters don't get anywhere near as cold as yours.
those will fit in a esee 3 sheath im told and you should get in some ontario rat 5’s and rat7 the rat 5 is a 5” sabre grind and thicker then the rat 7 which is a 7” blade with flat grind
I went with Randall Adventure & Training's (aka the real "RAT" Cutlery RC-3, RC-4 and RC-6 back around 2007, and have since added the RAT Izula and when the company rebranded as ESEE, the Izula II, Candiru and large Machete. RAT aka ESEE's knives have better fit and finish than Ontario Knife who licences the designs from RAT. RAT aka ESEE has a no-questions asked lifetime unlimited warranty on their knives. You break it and they'll replace it. The ESEEs come with either kydex or molded plastic sheaths (depending on the model).
Yes it looks like that. I made the same comment to my son when he was editing this clip. We use the Ken Onion knife sharpener and have re-sharpened the blade two or three times since new. The Ken Onion knife sharpener keeps it even (after a bit of practise) and looking new.
@@TacticalSouthnz Wow, that price of $72 was on Amazon. I just checked after reading this text and its still at $72. Stay Cool, the heat is on all over America.
I edc this knife currently. Replaced handles with aftermarket red and blk g10, and made a kydex sheath with dangler

LOVE THIS KNIFE . Have two . For me best EDC ever . Was a Seabee in the U.S NAVY . Have had a lot of blades in my hand , and this one , fits me ..

Love how you get right to providing the details. Awesome review 👏 👌
Great video. Just bought one. Already have the Five

Great video and review, I love my rat 3. A great edc

Ease 3 Kydex sheath fits this knife and with the mount you can run it parallel to your belt and it is a better way to carry..
Mine has a plastic sheath. Fine until last winter when I could not get it out. Love the knife, but will just carry it in summer.

Ontario makes very nice knives.
It is a very nice knife!
Can you please review the Terava jaakaripuukko? 110mm

OKC does not do 90 degree spines. This is a big issue.
Nor does esee
Question? My RAT 3 is on the side of the knife like this one in the video, but others it's closer to the handle.. is mine fake?
OKC must have changed their markings from earlier models, I had these on back order for sometime from OKC, so these ones have just been manufactured.
The older ones did say "Rat 3 USA" down near the handle vs on the blade.

ESEE's knifes are better in every way when comparing them to the OKC RAT's, except for cost...
I’ve got the rat 11& 7 the sheath could be a lot better
Same as esee 3
Yes...No, ESEE 3 is a better knife, has a better warranty and costs more
So how much are they , nz price?
The blade looks unused, but the handle is dirty. LOL... They come like that.

I would prefer not to have the finger choil on such a small blade.
Why is it over $72 ...I mean is it because of the high price of fuel in Brandons America to heat treat the thing.
I see the price of fuel must have gone up...they're now US$102.58 on their website.
