Perfect encore. Doubt if I share all Thom’s opinions on public affairs but the truth in his songs is mostly *personal* and goes beyond whatever fashionable opinion dictates in the moment. Only thing we can be sure of is that we’re all sinners and could be better.
First, I'll just say that Radiohead has been my favorite band since I was 14, and I feel we're incredibly lucky to be getting such a special tour from Thom at the moment. Of course it's a bummer to have such a wonderful performance interrupted, but in the context of the genocide in Palestine, and who Radiohead are as a band -- an unquestionably political group who have never previously hesitated to use their platform to speak out against injustice -- their silence has been particularly egregious. Thom has not even gone as far as issuing a relatively neutral statement like "ceasefire now". Many are criticizing the protester, and of course it fucking sucks to have such a special concert interrupted in that way. But protests are inherently disruptive. In the grand scheme of history, Radiohead's complacence with respect to the genocide in Gaza will not be remembered kindly, and I'm glad that there are fans willing to challenge them on this. Even if it does suck to have a performance interrupted. Imagine your favorite band playing in apartheid South Africa or Nazi Germany. Would it feel right to say "let's not get political" then?

Coming through, Radiohead *did* position themselves as a politically radical band. But in their lasting superstar era - as wealthy men who can travel the world - they've been vocally on the wrong side of this particular brutal oppression / occupation / now genocidal mass murder. Radiohead could've been such powerful advocates, as they have been on other political issues, but they are not. So it's inevitable occasionally people will shout at them. Doesn't mean this protester is 'right' to have interrupted the show, but for me it's just an inevitability of live performance in that context, when the artist exposes himself to real people after years in an ivory tower. Perhaps it made this 'Karma Police' better - but for me, the lyrics swivelled inwards to Yorke himself. Perfect encore. Doubt if I share all Thom’s opinions on public affairs but the truth in his songs is mostly *personal* and goes beyond whatever fashionable opinion dictates in the moment. Only thing we can be sure of is that we’re all sinners and could be better.
First, I'll just say that Radiohead has been my favorite band since I was 14, and I feel we're incredibly lucky to be getting such a special tour from Thom at the moment.
Of course it's a bummer to have such a wonderful performance interrupted, but in the context of the genocide in Palestine, and who Radiohead are as a band -- an unquestionably political group who have never previously hesitated to use their platform to speak out against injustice -- their silence has been particularly egregious. Thom has not even gone as far as issuing a relatively neutral statement like "ceasefire now".
Many are criticizing the protester, and of course it fucking sucks to have such a special concert interrupted in that way. But protests are inherently disruptive. In the grand scheme of history, Radiohead's complacence with respect to the genocide in Gaza will not be remembered kindly, and I'm glad that there are fans willing to challenge them on this. Even if it does suck to have a performance interrupted.
Imagine your favorite band playing in apartheid South Africa or Nazi Germany. Would it feel right to say "let's not get political" then?

Thom Yorke built 30 years of his career on politically unambiguous songs. He wrote songs and spoke about various crimes against humanity. For some reason, he refuses to elaborate on such a blatant issue. I don't care which party he supports. I cannot understand why he doesn't talk about children being murdered in Gaza. Thom speaks about the guy ruining everyone's night because he shouted a pro-Palestine comment yet Thom had no issues when he "ruined everyone's nights" when he spoke about other issues that were important to him.

Thom's been using his music to communicate peace and political engagement for literal decades. I think we're just asking for a word or two. Coming through, Radiohead *did* position themselves as a politically radical band. But in their lasting superstar era - as wealthy men who can travel the world - they've been vocally on the wrong side of this particular brutal oppression / occupation / now genocidal mass murder. Radiohead could've been such powerful advocates, as they have been on other political issues, but they are not. So it's inevitable occasionally people will shout at them. Doesn't mean this protester is 'right' to have interrupted the show, but for me it's just an inevitability of live performance in that context, when the artist exposes himself to real people after years in an ivory tower. Perhaps it made this 'Karma Police' better - but for me, the lyrics swivelled inwards to Yorke himself. It's not that Radiohead haven't spoken out - it's that in this particular case, they HAVE spoken out, stridently in support of the oppressor.

I really fed up these people trying to make Radiohead members say something about politics, do they have to? i might be blocked more than 200 people who said curse words about war in my Radiohead Club twitter & facebook accounts, go shout this to politicians not to a band or bands related fan accounts just becoz one of band members married to a jewish woman, this is really rude, this is not to way of protest, contrary you make people think antipathic things about what you defend…
