  • Matt has had bad luck with modified Deloreans. But when he was invited by DMC President Stephen Wynne to DMC headquarters in Houston, he couldn't resist. In addition to seeing the massive stockpile of Delorean parts, Matt gets to test their new prototype fully-electric Delorean.

    That "reverse to grid", as they call it, is quite handy. When I converted my 63 Ford Econoline Van into a hybrid (because I'm a technophile, and no other reason) and gave it a power station so I could run my appliances while camping. Since I gave it 4x 30 amp 110v circuits, and 2 additional 30x120 linked to make a 60x240 (Arch welder, drier, just because) I was able to power my whole farm for three weeks when the power got wiped out a few years back.

    • @ToasterCoasterAdventures
      @ToasterCoasterAdventures 5 років тому +5

      only the outer shell is stainless,
      the chassis is normal steel and they rust like crazy,
      never say a delorean doesn't rust because it does,
      stainless is not softer its harder and also work hardens easy meaning it can crack easier,
      it can work harden from flexing like a normal chassis/panel does,
      depending on the grade,
      also make conventional repairs almost impossible so its panel replacement,
      306 stainless used to be 16% dearer when buying fasteners a few years back so its not that much dearer.

As I understand it, these "new" DMC-12's are built using the old parts, with the addition of some modern bits and conveniences but are fundamentally the exact same car sold "back in the day". That's indeed a good idea. The flat paneled surfaces of the Delorean should work well and the typical shimmering solar cells should make this an awesome sight.

    Awesome. I had the privileged of driving a Delorean a few years back. The stock engine is pretty slow but it was still a blast to drive. Major head turner.

    If you build a new daloreon from old stock parts from 1980's is it still considered a historical vehicle as the parts are over 25 years old lol?

    • @florida57
      @florida57 5 років тому

      It goes by when the vin is first registered. If the vins for the rest of the ones that aren't built where some how registered in 1980 which is illigal. It's a brand new 2000 something with 1980's parts. It's still a rich man's toy.

    • @nubreed13
      @nubreed13 5 років тому

      It depends. I believe if it has the original vin tags it's an original car. The parts are all originally from the 1980s

    would rather buy one for like 4k and swap a powerful engine in and burn all those other cars at that place that they are selling way overpriced

    • @MisterSouji
      @MisterSouji 9 років тому +2

      Thing is that a delorean is a rare collectors car that people buy because they like it. Theres also only a handful of places in the world that can work on them. There was also a motor swap done on a delorean in another episode and it ran into problems.

    • @PuertoRican88
      @PuertoRican88 9 років тому

      MaxSonic I agree cause the deloreans have a back story when they first went into production for about 3 years, however its possible that they can be worked on for modifications like a different engine and more to it as well, but design wise I'd leave it the way it is due to its unique futuristic appearance.

      So true. Your comment was probably a bit premature 3 years ago, but these fuckers have ruined the market. They have totally overpriced these cars, and have bloated the price of spares significantly. Capitalism at its finest.

    I don't know why, you'll have to ask them. But our videos offer lots of exposure for these tuning companies' products, and every company we've worked with has gotten real business because of it. If UGR isn't interested in that kind of exposure, I'm not going to force it down their throats when there are dozens of other tuning companies that would love to have us film. Heffner Performance gave us a TT Lambo and it was brilliant.

      +J G I agree! The entire design seems like it should be electric for some reason. The reason I'm here is because I was wondering if anyone did an electric version. I've always loved the timeless design and an electric configuration seems like a natural evolution.
      The marketing will be simple because people view Deloreans as a future car (Flux Capacitor). They should really spend the money and develop a powerful and efficient electric architecture.
      They are too focused on keeping it pure. The changes would be great for this car. They should update the interior as well.
      These guys have a beast on their hands but still holding on to what it was.
