I’ve always used witch hazel since in my 20’s and it’s helped a lot for breakouts and I think it’s anti-aging. I remember I started using it when I was 23 when seeing a woman in her early 40’s in a doctors office. Her skin was GLOWING and had no wrinkles, I remember being so blown away on how amazing her skin looked. I asked what was her secret and she said witch hazel. Crazy.

Been using it for inflammation after electrolysis. Working like a charm for calming the skin and cooling. I put Vaseline every night on damp face also and that is just the best. Saw so much inflammation go down.
I’m glad you’ve made a video of this some many people rave about witch hazel but yeah I found it drying out my skin way too much and irritating my acne from how drying it is. I’ve changed my toner to the Nature Republic Aloe Vera hydrating toner!
I use witch hazel as a cleanser. And it’s the only thing that has helped my acne. I use it to wipe away all dirt off my face then I wash it off with water then I moisturize. It also helps me not get razor bumps when I use it after shaving .
I use witch hazel on my t zone alone, because I have combo skin. It seems to have helped. I also use it as a scalp toner instead of dry shampoo, because I don't need the volumizing properties; just the degreasing factor.

I have been actually pleasantly surprised by the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 1.0 (not to be confused with version 1 which has alcohol in it), which has witch hazel and salicylic acid but no alcohol. It is marketed as a daily exfoliator to be used after the Clinique Liquid Soap Extra Mild. I use it after the Clinique Liquid Soap Extra Mild (which is very emollient for my dry skin, thankfully) and then follow it with the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream. My skin feels soft, even and smooth. My skin feels moisturized and the cream sinks quickly into my skin and the moisturizing effect doesn't disappear after a few hours as I have experienced with other moisturizers. I think these 3 products are meant to be used together for best results. I never would have thought to use that particular 3 step routine.

maybe it’s just me, but I used it as a regular toner and I had a huge reaction. My face went red and had rashes and was rlly painful. (combo to oily skin type)
I use the Thayers toner, alcohol free. Even though I tried not using it the last year or so, I recently went back to it. It helps calm my acne down, gives me a wonderful glow, and I use it in conjunction to excema friendly facial lotions
The worst reaction I’ve ever had was to witch hazel. I used the Thayer’s Witch Hazer Toner and it felt like it was burning my skin off and I broke out so bad. I cried it was so bad. I use the alcohol free Thayers toner to set my makeup. I'm using the rose one now, but don't worry, I'm switching to unscented when it runs out. The only reason I haven't switched before is that I HATE the smell of witch hazel! I'm hoping that the other ingredients will dilute that funky smell.

I used witch hazel for a short period of time because I noticed when I’d apply it to my face and neck, some hours later my face would produce more oil than before. So I would and rarely now use it to my face and neck. When I do (rarely), I apply and leave it for 5-10 minutes and then use a face wash to wash my face and neck and then follow up with Shea butter retinal face cream.
Loving your 🍑 peaches and cream complexion Dr. Dray. I used to use witch hazel on bug bites when my kids were little but very rarely now. I still keep it in my medicine cabinet though. Loved this video, thanks for the info on witch hazel. As usual you clear up all the myths about an ingredient and teach us the facts. That’s why I love your channel.💕☮️❤️
topical application is completely different from consumption... if your standard for something being good for is the skin is that it has to be healthy to consume, then it looks like you’re going to have to toss out almost all of your skincare.
Thank you for this video, it was EXTREMELY interesting to me as I have been using "Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe Vera Formula" every night for many years to remove my make up. I have very sensitive skin with some Rosacea & capillaries (I use metrogel once a day) so I like the Thayers also for the anti inflammatory/calming properties. I am disappointed they reformulated recently & added Phenoxyethenol though, don't love that ingredient. I may look into another cleanser to remove make up a couple times a week instead of using the Thayers every night like I do & see if I notice any differences. I had no idea about possible sensitivities from it, but so good to be aware. I do think it is helpful for some calming with my face though. And I will watch your other video to see the routine, although my skin is not oily....it is dry to combination. Have a great day! 😎
@@jt8142 I have not, but I may try one to see if there is any difference. I am very careful with any products I buy with fragrance in them & I only buy things with natural fragrance, and the toner I use now has Rose which can have some beneficial properties to it. I am getting low on my Thayers right now, so will probably get a small size of something different to try out to see if there is any difference. Thank you. :)
Witch hazel is a product that is often mentioned as a product sufferers from rosacea should not take. Ihave rosace too and have removed products w8th witch hazel from my routine.
@@modestyblaise8536 Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. I have also heard witch hazel is not supposed to mix well with rosacea , but for some odd reason, my skin seems to like it & do ok with it & I do think it helps a bit. A lady I used to see for facials used to laugh & say that my skin does well with things that it shouldn't. After this video & comments though, I may try a little test to remove it from my routine to see if I notice any differences. So helpful having this community of people sharing great info. :)
As part of my Post-shave routine, from the Dollar Tree I purchase a 8oz bottle of Witch Hazel and a 4oz bottle of Rosewater/Aloe Toner, costs me $2.50, and combine them into an empty 16oz Witch Hazel bottle. The cleansing & soothing elements of the Witch Hazel, combine nicely with the moisturizing & replenishing properties of Rosewater/Aloe/Hylauronic Acid to make my face feel great in the Post shave, kind of a refreshing 'zen' moment! And whatever alcohol is in the Witch Hazel gets watered down by the alcohol-free Toner, Take care
Dr. Dray - Thank you for posting your videos! I like how you don't fall for marketing and base your decision strickly on ingredients. Do you have another recommendation for witch hazel? Currently, the link provided shows unavailable.
Loved witch hazel before I started tretinoin. Kept using it when I first started tret but would NOT stop flaking. Quit the witch and I’m all good again
@@LoveConquersAll888 yes, the witch hazel in combination with tretinoin made my skin flake. After a couple week so of stopping witch hazel, I stopped flaking. but before using tret, witch hazel didn't make me flake.
I've been using Humphrey's witch hazel for about 5years now. I use it as a toner and i really like it. I have pretty oily skin and it seems to have helped with that. And also switching to a gel moisturizer, that helped so much. But yes, i love my witch hazel toner. I never skip it in my skincare routine.
Hi! A new ingredient I didn't know about! One itch product I'd like to buy is the Itch Relief Moisturising cream. I have to go see the video because you already talked about this product.
I wonder what the difference is between using a good moisturizer with witch hazel in it v. using an alcohol free witch hazel as a toner and then following up with a good moisturizer. That is what I have done with the Thayer's Alcohol Free Witch Hazel and I feel that I get all the benefits without any sensitization.
I had bought the Thayers brand years ago and I used it as a toner. I found it drying. I didn't think they have a fragrance free many years ago nor alcohol free. Now that I see this brand on the market, I don't buy because of the dryness it gives my skin.
Hi Dr. Dray. Are you familiar with Lucky Tiger aftershave tonic? It contains witch hazel, aloe, glycerin and I find it soothing after my shaves but I'm wondering if it is actually good for my skin. Thanks so much and I look forward to your opinion.
I was using the Ole Henriksen Oil Control Toner... After I stopped using it my acne started to clear. I think it was, in fact, doing what you mentioned and only making my acne worse. 😔
Dr.Dray! I know you have mentioned it before, but thayers has a new toner that is “unscented”. Although it doesn’t have fragrance, I believe it still has the grapefruit seed you mentioned. It this formula better than the original? Thank you!
Is witch hazel a good product to use to avoid shaving irritation? I get very bad shaving irritation and bumps from shaving my head and grooming my face regularly. I have heard of people useing witch hazel to avoid razor irritation , what do recommend for that issue ?
Great review, Dr Dray! I've never used witch hazel as a toner but I have used it for bug bites. I think the alcohol in it could be very harsh for the face. Thanks so much! Have a relaxing evening. 🐬🐚🐬
@Dr Dray Thanks for the info on Witch Hazel. I've been contemplating on buying iUNIK Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum, but it contains Witch Hazel, although down on the ingredients' list. Probably would be better to pass. BTW, Looking into the list of products you've been currently using, I've noticed that CeraVe moisturizer in a tub isn't there. Have you replaced it with CeraVe baby completely? If so, may I ask why? Is it better for the face?
learned to use it from my grandmother, yes can be drying in the face, is a hit or miss product, but still is a product that can be used for insect bites or in days skin is greasy.

Dr. Dray, I'd love for you to do a video on how stress affects skin, particularly acne. I'd love to hear you explain how this happens and what can be done to prevent it (if anything!). Thank you.
i have one
@@DrDrayzday I will go searching for it! Thanks so much for responding!

🌺Happy Tuesday Everyone!🌺
Have a wonderful day 😊
It's uplifting to read so many positive comments on these videos. Happy Tuesday to you too!
Happy Tuesday ! Latricia have a fantastic day
Uncle Charlie absolutely! 👍🏾
mary ann Gonzalez 👋🏾😁Hello! Thanks 💐
Thank You Soo Much!! I Hope You're Having Super Amazing Day!! Always!!
Bought witch hazel, got rid of it as I have normal skin, did not need the product as a toner.. Thanks for this information.

That’s why I love your channel.💕☮️❤️
thanks
I would love to see a review on Beautylish's Good Molecules brand
Been binging your videos for the past few hours. Learning so much. ❤
Same here! I hope she reviews it soon!
Used it in my teen years along with the dreadful apricot scrub, my skin would crack it was so dry! Do you have a rec for a men’s aftershave? 😃
Every girl: “alcohol is bad for the skin”
Also every girl: “Takes shots of tequila every Weekend” and Wednesday’s
topical application is completely different from consumption... if your standard for something being good for is the skin is that it has to be healthy to consume, then it looks like you’re going to have to toss out almost all of your skincare.
Tuesdays* lol
Whoop whoop!🍹
Mindy A: Have you tried fragrance free witch hazel to see if that results in less redness?
Try micellar water to remove your makeup
Hey dr dray what is sea moss true benefits everyone is talking about on social media
Dr. Dray - Thank you for posting your videos! I like how you don't fall for marketing and base your decision strickly on ingredients.
Do you have another recommendation for witch hazel? Currently, the link provided shows unavailable.
I've been wanting to learn about witch hazel for a while. Thank you!

Is rice bran oil good for skin?
I'm Caucasian w/ fair skin. I've been using Thayer's (alcohol-free w/aloe) for over 10 years and never had a problem, ever.
Loved witch hazel before I started tretinoin. Kept using it when I first started tret but would NOT stop flaking. Quit the witch and I’m all good again
Would you say the witch hazel made you flake ?
I used it as a toner in the past but I'm too lazy to use toner. I like the Dickenson's for bug bites if I don't have ice packs.
Yoga with Mo 💙
I found out that I am very alergic to it....after I applied a mask all over my face....
🌷So is witch hazel a “no” for dry skin? I’ve been using “dickinson’s “ on my skin….
My go to lady !! I love you Dr. Dray !
I use witch hazel as a toner to remove excess makeup. It really doesnt do much else for me. The one I use is alcohol free.
I loooooove how informative your videos are!!!! Especially as a bio student and enthusiast- I find myself so absorbed into your videos....
I love this channel 🥺 So much information!
I had bought the Thayers brand years ago and I used it as a toner. I found it drying. I didn't think they have a fragrance free many years ago nor alcohol free.
Now that I see this brand on the market, I don't buy because of the dryness it gives my skin.
Happy Wednesday and thank you for this video! I guess that old saying is right: To much of a good thing is bad...
Hi Dr.
Hi Dr. Dray, nice to see you 🌸 Happy Tuesday
Paris M Happy Tuesday
Your videos are soo helpful Dr. Dray thank u!
I've been thinking of joining witch hazel rave. This video is so informative.
Looove looking at your skin dr dray!! You can honestly see such a difference in your skin since you switched to tretinoin!! YOU LOOK SO GLOWY 💜💜
Brittany Rodriguez thanks
Dr Dray 😭😭😭😭 WOW I LOVE YOU AND YOUR VIDEOS!! Can’t wait to see my own retin-a results!!!
Dr gray, What's your opinion on using witch hazel to keep skin tightened in areas with stretch mark's?
I was thinking about this ingredient yesterday.
🌸You Are Amazing!! Tysm for Sharing With us!🌸
Hi, Dr. Dray. Is there a product one can put on one’s arms and legs to help delay aging like Retin-A is used on the face?
WInnie Pauly I use Retin-A body lotion and it works great!
Everdyce Is there such a thing?
WInnie Pauly Yes there are a lot! :)
Everdyce I guess you mean retinol, not Retin-A.
WInnie Pauly sunscreen and retin a can be used on the body as with the face
learned to use it from my grandmother, yes can be drying in the face, is a hit or miss product, but still is a product that can be used for insect bites or in days skin is greasy.
