Solos were awesome. But that personality!! Like he knows every person in the room. No ego, no bullshit, and willing to share his secrets with anyone that would listen. Gethcha pull, and learn from the master. This beers for you, Dime.
people pull off the cemetary gates like he did. with skills like he did years beforehand. iron maiden is a good example. rhere are others obviously. but his skills in writing that music are great and what lucky people to see it up that close. good stage presence
wow, all this talent... and nobody is cheering for him during his solos? I guess people take Phenomenal Musicians for granted. I'd be ecstatic to see him playing. Especially 5 feet in front of me. I'm still cheering you on Darrel. R.I.P Dime
I don't know what I love more; his all out assault on rhythm, or his otherworldly, precise, lead techniques. Definitely a legend on the 6string. R.I.P. Dime.
DCee listen to the Pantera song "We'll Meet Again" and listen to the solo. It is truly an amazing solo, more soul and feeling in it than any of Van Halen's solos
DCee I completely understand where you are coming from, and I see what you mean. I just enjoy the groove Dime injected, which has been imitated ever sense by countless bands, just as many other have imitated Eddie (although not quite to the same extent, its hard to match Eddies influence). His soloing was also very influential and overall great.
DCee I do agree with you on that point sir. It is not a good place to start, and it will come out sounding bad if you do not know what you are doing. And anyways, look what Dime first learned on guitar: lots Van Halen covers.
It's funny, when I was in high school I was so into shred and instrumentals like Becker and Gilbert (who I still love for his honesty and no fucks given attitude in the community) but after all this time I return back to dimebag. I felt like a lot of shredders were beautiful on a technical level but lacked something that I saw in dimebag. It's like energy, or personality, power, or real character . Dimebag didn't do technique for the sake of technique like most of the guys did in the shred scene. It's like dimebag just said "fuck u and have a drink and let's go kick a trash can" and he lets his hands say all that, whereas other guys just said "yeah look at my scales here and this really cool saharn sounding sweep I worked on for this album". Dimebag may have not said much more than that in his playing, but it had so much soul and punch to his playing. I prefer him over any of his more technically impressive peers because I feel and know when it's dimebags playing. He makes it known who he is and what his personality is like on stage, whereas others just care about sounding technically impressive.
+ThyChrysanthemum He stayed away from sweep picking and and tapping, which are techniques that guitar nerds love but put you in cheese-land very easily. Dime's vibrato and squeal stuff is what set him apart from the pack
Adam Youdell hahaha, "guitar nerds." I just think people get so wrapped up in technique that they forget the whole point was to create a song. Like songs just become a showpiece or platform to flex their technical muscles. But Dimebag's a guy whose got the skills to be a pure shredder, but opts to actually make or at least play around the song, only to compliment it and not just covering it up with useless technique.
ThyChrysanthemum Dime could shred, be technical, bluesy.....he could do it all. He could play anything from Randy Rhodes to Van Halen to Hendrix. Dime, like every great guitarist, created his own signature sound and playing style that's like no other. He was one of a kind. He once did a live radio show in Dallas around '89 or '90 where people called in with requests. People called in and asked he could play Steve Vai, Randy Rhodes, Yngwie Malmsteen, Hendrix and various songs and Dime played them all. He could duplicate any other shredders out there.
Hearing this again I remember how much I miss this band. I got to see Dime many times. Long live Pantera, no other band like them and very much missed!!!!!!!
such a shame that the world was robbed of such a great talent and such a gentle soul.still he will live on through me and all those other present and future pantera fans for many years to come!!!!!!!long live dime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you fucking believe Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists has Dime at 92. They even have a couple girls ahead of him! They put a bunch of lame guitarists ahead of him even someone from the band Police??? What in the fuck. To hell with their lists, based on talent and ability I know he's right there with Jimi, Clapton, and Van Halen. This shits why no one cares about Rolling Stones magazine anymore. This was all a popularity contest and plenty of good singer/songwriters/guitarists snuck in above guitarists. Dimes music doesn't appeal to all fans of rock and roll, but anyone that likes similar genres knows this music will never be seen again. Ever
+Markel Fortunato I'll tell you what, when you learn how to play the guitar riff to "Serve The Servants" off of In Utero then come tell me that Kurt Cobain was a hack who possessed zero talent, or better yet, learn "Love Buzz" with all the solos and all while you're at it.
followfornothing Dude , listen to Alice In Chains , More composition in terms of music , better solos , lyrics and melodies Jerry Cantrell is a beast compared to Cobain!
Nah man Pantera is just simply known as having the greatest riffs of all time. They saved metal music in the 1990's. Solos like Floods and The sleep are just too emotional and written with so much passion. Kirk' solo yea they sound ok but it uses always the same lick with the Wah in every single solo.
Sir, i could not agree with you more!!!! Not only that be was also the nicest person in the world. I saw a kid come up to a table where he was signing to get his guitar signed and Dime asked him if it was his. He said it will be but it's on lay a way. He left the table, went to the manager and told him that the kid was not allowed to leave the store without the guitar!!! He also has a charity that helps keep music classes in schools!!
DUDE DIME IS THE REASON I PICKED UP A GUITAR! IVE BEEN PLAYIN FOR 6 YEARS AND I HAVE THE CFH LOGO ON THE BACK OF MY LEFT CALF (BLACK AND RED)...I STILL GET CHILLS LISTENING TO DIME PLAY, AND I COULD BEAT THE SHIT OUTTA ANYBODY WHILE LISTENING TO PANTERA! CFH!!!!
dime not only had very fast high pitched solos and riffs, but the solos n riffs he wrote wer so thaught out and so precise and so fuckin (how do i say it?) GOOD. he was the greatest, and if not greatest most creative guitarist ever, not to mention the perfect set up he had wit a kick ass drummer, solid ass bassist, n one of the best writers ever. RIP brotha
All those people just standing there, I am Dimes biggest fan and if I was there I would be head banging till my neck cracked from my spine. I wish I was there ! Thumbs up if you agree !!!!!!!!
I never got to meet him but at a small show in 96 in Indianapolis, it was 17 below outside and they were playing the Pepsi Coliseum which had no heat. They almost cancelled the concert but Pantera said that if people showed up in the cold to watch them, then they were going to play in the cold. Now that's love for your fans!
Justin R. the one with the lightning on it (dimebolt) actually is priceless. it has an interesting history and is very important to dimebag. i think he even said it in this performance that it's priceless.
Most unique sounding metal guitarist I ever heard. I don't know, I'm not that much into metal, but this guy always had something that made me wanna demolish a building while listening to him playing. He had no flaws, neither technical or musical and he was and still is fucking dynamite!
His ability to shred plus write those awesome riffs is what I always liked about him. I do like to think though that he would have signed with a different guitar company. I was never a big fan but he seemed to like them a lot.
Solos were awesome. But that personality!! Like he knows every person in the room. No ego, no bullshit, and willing to share his secrets with anyone that would listen. Gethcha pull, and learn from the master. This beers for you, Dime.
Dimebag is the most cool and awesome person who ever walked on earth!
Agreed…angel’s come in many forms
no matter how hard anyone tries they will never pull off the cemetery gates solo like he did.
Hell no
True! Ola Englund did a pretty BA one tho!
people pull off the cemetary gates like he did. with skills like he did years beforehand. iron maiden is a good example. rhere are others obviously. but his skills in writing that music are great and what lucky people to see it up that close. good stage presence
Iron Maiden. LOL
he wrote it lol
Man you can see what a machine and creative force he was. Unstoppable power and energy in each and every single slice he diced.
wow, all this talent... and nobody is cheering for him during his solos? I guess people take Phenomenal Musicians for granted. I'd be ecstatic to see him playing. Especially 5 feet in front of me. I'm still cheering you on Darrel.
R.I.P Dime
Talented legend : lost but never forgotten, now get ya pull!
Wow first few seconds in and you realize this is really legendary stuff.
I sure miss him! A legendary player that DEFINED Pantera's sound....epic!! Love this...thanks for posting
I don't know what I love more; his all out assault on rhythm, or his otherworldly, precise, lead techniques. Definitely a legend on the 6string. R.I.P. Dime.
Rest in peace Dimebag, we'll always enjoy your music. Just watching this justifies how much we love you. Bloody amazing.
One of the all time greats. I would put him as high up as Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen
DCee
listen to the Pantera song "We'll Meet Again" and listen to the solo. It is truly an amazing solo, more soul and feeling in it than any of Van Halen's solos

shut up.
That video description isn't enough for so much epicness *-*

You can feel colors and textures!! Just hypnotizing!

+Ben Jackson Dude , i saw Cobain on that list and i said "oh , fuck this shit."
+Markel Fortunato I'll tell you what, when you learn how to play the guitar riff to "Serve The Servants" off of In Utero then come tell me that Kurt Cobain was a hack who possessed zero talent, or better yet, learn "Love Buzz" with all the solos and all while you're at it.
followfornothing Dude , listen to Alice In Chains , More composition in terms of music , better solos , lyrics and melodies

Dimebag is a f.. legend!
You know it’s true
Hands down better than Kirk hammet
1000x better than kirk. The thing is, Dime shreds with passion and soul and has great solos.
FORREAL DUDE and kirk only does it for fame
Kirk solos are better , just compare. Pantera riffs are great but rifss and solos not better - compared to Metallica -
Kirk whammet is not even the best guitar of his band....
Nah man Pantera is just simply known as having the greatest riffs of all time. They saved metal music in the 1990's. Solos like Floods and The sleep are just too emotional and written with so much passion. Kirk' solo yea they sound ok but it uses always the same lick with the Wah in every single solo.
Dime nuff said RIP DIme
Btw tip for people that couldn't follow his solos , put it on 0,25 for human speed :)

You'd be missing out on the greatness that is DBD you wouldn't hear a peep from me when he played the cemetary gates solo

R.I.P Dimebag. 10 years today.
His ability to shred plus write those awesome riffs is what I always liked about him. I do like to think though that he would have signed with a different guitar company. I was never a big fan but he seemed to like them a lot.
