I totally trust him that that was the only way to do that move, but damn it looks like he can get more fingers in there. The need to spin is probably the main driver for doing that as a mono.
Saw this crack a long time ago when scouting for bouldering in Devon, remember thinking wow thats one of the best and hardest looking lines around! Also its a bit high, throw in the conditions issue and you have one brilliant bit of climbing. Nice one!
Cracks should probably have their own rating system. The top crack climbers can't climb the top boulders, but the top boulderers can't climb the top cracks either. Doesn't really make sense to compare them.
I understand where you're comming from, but it's still a boulder problem. Should crimpy routes get a seperate grading system because I suck at them, but feel like big powerful moves are a walk in the park? Every disciplin of bouldering should be praticed in my opinion and fall under the same category.
i think it gets more like that the higher the grade, regardless of discipline. the more specialized you get, the more nobody else can do your routes and the more you cant even do routes at that grade in other styles. having said that, ondra likes a good crack and i would love to see a video of him trying this, for comparison
Jeroen Katgert You can't see the vast difference between this and regular climbing? Really? This is a completely different style that has to be trained for. It’s a brutal specialty in itself.
@@moonti6820 Why. It's likely neither climbers could do the feat of the other. Alex's climb had to be perfect, or risk death, and this climb is just so insanely hard, Alex likely couldnt make the send
Man when u get old ur going to so dad arthritis. You can’t punish ur hands like that ur going to pay for it been there done it so here’s experience talking.
What a stupid comment, by that logic no-one would ever do anything impressive or push the limits in any sport.. Live a little mate and keep your silly comments to yourself. This guy is a world class athlete, doing what he loves at the highest possible skill level, probably making a very decent living too. Incredible and inspiring if you ask me.
Didn’t say what he’s doing isn’t awesome just saying from a point of view that u haven’t experienced yet .young man issues.once you hit ur 40 you might understand ur body will fade .u climb today I did so .u ought to live a little mate .👍

It really depends on the technique being used. There are many climbers still pushing their limits into old age and some climbers getting major chronic injury in their 30s or even 20s. Ultimately, it often depends on how well you're paying attention to the method that you use to approach the sport. I've heard people try to blame their injury on the sport or their age but when you dig deeper it's always something they were doing that they just decided to ignore or just didn't know about.
And exactly what was the girl going to do if he fell off?? get in the way I'd say! Impressive in a gymnastic sense but don't see the point? Use your talents on something more worthy.
Lol, because there are so many applications of crack climbing... He makes a living doing this (among other things) and likes to do it, why the hell would he do anything else?
The idea of hanging on a ringlock by one arm on a roof is absolutely mind-boggling.
Tom is the perfect combination of savage strength, impeccable technique, problem solving and relentless determination.
My middle finger retracted back into my hand seeing him do the “mono swing through move”
I totally trust him that that was the only way to do that move, but damn it looks like he can get more fingers in there. The need to spin is probably the main driver for doing that as a mono.
I could feel my middle finger exploding into goo just thinking about that move
That move at 3:05 looks just insane.
No words to adequately describe how I feel about how amazing and also disgusting that move looks

I lost it at "mono spin through move"
Congrats to Pete from Wideboyz for repeating this just a few days ago. Amazing line.
two of my fingers just fell off and ran away as I watched this.
the witness the fitness of crack climbing. nice!
Wow, beautiful bolder. Really great video as well. Loved the detail beta and surrounding conditions explanation
2:45 His lady friend is obviously using the force to keep him from falling . Did he think we wouldn’t notice?
Then it should have looked a lot easier than it was :) He sure looked like he was in pain a lot of the time :)
@@advancednutritioninc908 it's because she used the force to hold him up by his ... middle leg?
Using the Force is aid.
so has the Japanese National Team called you up yet or what?
Actually, the problem on which all the Japanese failed in Meringen wasn't really a crack problem, because there wasn't any hold in the crack.

Mary Eden should try this one, I'd love to see that : )
The best hand hand jam in the business.
Such a beast
03:06 he definitely gave this route.......the middle finger *Puts on sunglassess* YYYEAAAAAHHHHHHHH
Cool motion, Tom. :)
behold ... the man with iron fingers
Incredible!
So awesome!
Magnus Mitbo, your next proj.
he could never though
See Maguns video hanging out with Tom and Pete. Maguns can barely start a crack, let alone finish it.
damp sea smeg
Yeah that was rad 😁
really hardcore-even even his haircut is👍
YAR!!!!! Release the Kraken!!!
Insane !
What is the first song plz ?
Stanage Wuthering roof direct now is possible.
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than 10 minutes ago

If he fall then she is going to catch his legs so he can fall on his head even more?
You know she's not there to catch him, right?
Absolutely bat shit crazy climb.
Dope jaw line bruh 🤘😋
just wow

Not yet!
Pete Whittaker is probably the only other one that could

Tom Randall is a crusher.
Arguably there are more people capable of 8c/v15 than are capable of this so I propose V16 ;)
Ruben de Klerk the difference is in style not in difficulty really
I've already watched this somewhere!?
Yeah it's a repost.
Yep it was on our older BMC TV platform and is part of the content we’re moving over to UA-cam.
@@teamBMCTV you should add a date of the ascent in the description

I thought Spider-Man was just a cartoon.
at 3:20 the editing is ugly, his body position changes suddenly as they cut, it makes me think this is not the ascent and he just did it in two parts.
Nobody going to address the "damp sea-smeg" line? okay just me
Embarrassed
This is a reference to "smegma" correct?
Do that one in flip flops lol
sea smeg :D
If anyone is repeating Silence 9c, it’s this guy
Bruh my hands hurt watching this
The crack boulder problem on Adam Ondra's Silence route is a v15. 8c. Thats harder than this
Maybe but nowhere near in complexity or length...this is more a sport climb than a boulder move.
@@howler6490 Ondra said it was a v15 boulder problem. Beat it nerd
Lattice!!! Where’s the awful haircut?👍👍👍
This guy looks like Alex Honnold's long lost British brother.
This man´s fingers must be tough as nails...
Or rather: this man's fingers, are, in fact, nails. Which he can bend at will.
This looks harder than V13...
Nah a v7 at most
absolutely disgusting
Like she was going to catch him
Spotting someone is about guiding their body onto the soft crash pads, not catching them
Notice how she kept following his head with her hands so she could help him avoid breaking his neck if he fell.
i thought she was just worshipping his climbing abilities, catching makes sense tho
This is as crazy as Alex's free solo of El cap to me. A whole other level of difficulty. Jesus
That's quite a bad comparison.
@@moonti6820 Why. It's likely neither climbers could do the feat of the other. Alex's climb had to be perfect, or risk death, and this climb is just so insanely hard, Alex likely couldnt make the send
