  • YOU DON'T NEED A NEW CAMERA! Sorry for shouting... Anyways, the best way for ME to show YOU that you don't need a new camera was to buy another camera. An old camera. An underwhelming camera. A real piece of junk... A Sony A390! Check it out.

Interesting. I did not know it was a crappy camera. In 2017 I took some amazing pictures on an Alaska cruise and also in Vancouver at the end of the cruise. Vancouver has beautiful flowers, bridges and water. Oh, yea. And architecture. I bought this camera because I already had a bunch of lenses for my Sony 35MM. I resisted going digital because I did not want to start all over. This camera was a great way for me to dip my toe in the water. I now have a Nikon 950 but I think I will take the Sony a390 on my trip to Rome and Greece just to keep the Nikon safe and sound at home.

There are no crappy cameras, only crappy photographers ;) Seriously, I've been a Sony user since their first offering, the a100. I've owned many of their bodies including a350, a55, a700, a580, NEX-5 and so on, and I've taken some of my best photos on all of them. My very first good photo that I was really proud of was on my a100 with 18-70 kit lens even.

The best thing about the A390 is that it's the last SONY CCD sensor DSLR. And it's 14 Megapixels! Who would ever need more than that to post photos to Instagram? Nobody, that's who.

I'm seriously considering getting a14mp CCD Sony Alpha. The colors are better than CMOS but is limited to 11x14 prints max.

I had an even older version (10mpix) version of the Sony Alpha series. I also had that 70-210 lens (got it used as a "BGN" from KEH). It was lacking in video which I needed to capture my daughters performance in HS marching band, so I traded it in for my current G3. While the G3 is still a very good still camera, I'd like to upgrade to something more capable in video (4K, IBIS), so I'm looking at the G85. I could hold onto that for a while (maybe forever). Sometimes you DO need a new camera when your needs change. But I agree, If I only did still photos, and never used old long lenses on the camera (but I DO have an old T mount telephoto), I could live without the IBIS. So even if I get the G85, I might keep the G3 since it's a lighter weight camera and with a pancake lens on it, it would be the perfect take with me anywhere camera. Nothing wrong with having TWO cameras, is there?

But do the cameras get old and age? I mean even if you've been careful enough and stuff do they have a particular lifetime? Sometimes I think of upgrading just because I'm a little concerned that maybe someday some part of my camera would stop working or so. (that's, by the way, Sony a 7 ii which is slightly more than 3 years old now)

    🤔 umm a A65 in an SLT ( not true DSLR ) ..
    It's 2022 now, and I love to shit with my A100 ..
( I also have a A65, it was primarily purchased as a " point n click " as it has a excellent " Automatic" setting) ideal to hand to a learner, so that they can try out the hobby )
    I'm actually considering purchasing a A900 ( or A850 ) primarily for portrait work ( yes in 2022 ) 🤗

Did you buy them? I think A900 and A850 are rare to find. I have A300 but also would like to have A390 as it is the last Sony camera with the CCD sensor.
