Japan Studio knew what they were doing when they hired Dennis. They specifically hired outside of the country in an attempt to generate a distinct OST, not that familiar to the genre, and they pulled it off. Not only was it distinct, but it was timeless. Miratsu's contributions were great as well, may he rest in peace and be forever remembered for the art he gave us all.
This was also the first JRPG that I ever played. It’s kind of crazy how well it’s aged, maybe not from a tech standpoint, but the story, music, and even gameplay still feel great to this day. I think I replayed this game maybe 3-5 years ago and it was just as compelling as it was 20 years ago. Truly legendary.
This game deserved a detailed analysis of each melody, I thank you for the care and effort you put into it. There are other songs that you didn't include, such as clinic theme, Donau theme, ending theme... but it would have become a huge video I imagine. 😅 We share the same favorite song: Hoax Theme, I was thrilled when I read the description... me too when I listen to it the whole game comes to mind... such a sad/ethereal/magical melody perfectly represents the mood of this JRPG. Thank you again!
This soundtrack is such a fucking amazing bop, it's a huge reason why I enjoy the game so greatly. The virage/boss 3 theme is so absolutely intense that when it hits, you're like "Oh fucking hell time to die a bunch," you KNOW you've an intense fight ahead.
Everyone who is an RPG fan but who didn't play tLoD NEEDS to experience this masterpiece. The story beats most FF games and the battle system has progression w/ interaction.
When I was a kid this was one of the few games I could just listen to the OST on my disc player while out walking. Boss Battle 3 in particular has just stuck with me forever as that theme that plays in my head when doing writing in my homebrew campaigns for D&D. Even to the point where it was my personal final boss theme for the campaign just to illustrate the gravity of the situation to my players. It's the standard I hold every boss track too in some way shape or form now.
Feels weird without watching Uncle Jesse groove along to the beats and speak the thoughts aloud. It's a nice format though and we still get your thoughts and fun to hear this OST from ancient times again. This game has such good music, never forget xD Thanks!
This was fantastic Jesse. Now that you played my favourite game ever, The Legend of Dragoon, you can go on and play my second favourite game, Dragon Age Origins! From there, you could continue with the whole Dragon Age Series. Then you could play my other favourite games, Mass Effect Trilogy, Gothic series, The Witcher series, Dark Souls series (together with Bloodborne), Fable series, The Elder Scrolls Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind. Play these games and then give us your thoughts about those soundtracks as well. Granted that The Legend of Dragoon remains the top dog!
To this day LoD is still one of my favorite rpgs ever. Super happy to see an analysis of the music cause it was one of the things that really stayed with me all these years!
Oh I remember sitting down with my older brothers and watching them play. I still have my discs at home and I just might have to play through it tonight hahahaha
Slight correction* "Together in peace with you" also plays when Dart & Lavitz are having the conversation on the roof overseeing Bale. What is your favorite song from The Legend of Dragoon?
Ruined Celes has got to be my favorite. Ever since booting the game up as a kid that opening cutscene and the piano just worked perfectly together. Still come back to this OST every year to enjoy it. Great video Jesse! Honorable mentions go ofc to Boss Theme 3, the stuff of nightmares, and to the Holy City track.
So happy to hear you are a fan of this game. I enjoy your content very much and the extra attention you have given to one of my all time favorites makes me so happy. TLOD is in a class of its own…a hidden gem 💎 of its time. So glad to see brought to the PS5. I was even crafting a sequel storyline at one point.
If You Still Believe is one of my favorite songs of any genre or type period. I love the unique instrumentation on it along with an amazing performance vocally.
This was a really neat video! I like this sort of long-form analytical look into an entire OST, and would be interested in additional videos of this type.
I'm happy for this new format (if it's ever a new format). Before I watch, I just want to say that if you ever wondered why LOD don't sound very "japanese", it's simply because the main a lot of tracks were done by an occidental composer. The other one was Japanese.
For me, Battle Theme 1, Enemy Attack and Boss Battle 1 sounds very similar(Battle 1 - very cheerful - regular enemies isn't that dangerous, EA - more stressful to show that something bad/unexpected is happening, Boss - slower and more dramatic version of Battle 1 - to show seriousness of this fight)
Unlike the top 20 videos I make, this game has around 80 songs that were too difficult to narrow down. Since I wanted to talk about most of them, speaking would take forever. Also wanted to introduce new people to the series by letting them hear the songs instead of me.
"Jesse's VODS" channel. A small disclaimer, I was playing LoD and Chrono Trigger for the first time simultaneously so I was struggling keeping up with a lot of info

Oh hey, I've seen your retrospective on LOD a while back, good stuff! 👍
@@JessesAuditorium Glad you enjoyed it! LOD fan for life here. Nice to see others covering it. Especially with a unique angle.

Didn’t expect that one! One of my favs games and soundtracks. The first black haired girl we never forget.
I REEEALY hoped you would add the Shirley Shrine theme here... It is my favorite track in the whole game.
Great work nevertheless! Thank you.
The ending theme is also really good.

The music is too good, Jesse couldn't do it in person without bursting into tears.
I wish Legend of Dragoon was shown more love. It's considered a cult classic, but you don't see much about it.

I love the item/weapon shop theme! such an underrated and funky tune. I love the bass in it, and just the groovy happy vibes.

It's gotta be Royal Castle for me, big sucker for that piano. After that it is way too hard to pick personally.
Still like to dig up Dart's Theme and listen to it every now and then.

Gosh, I love Meru's theme so much still. But I agree the soundtrack is really great
Thanks for the video, Jesse! ^^
Amazing concept! Congrats for all the work, must have been quite challenging~
I love this idea of analysis in chronological order of an OST! pls tell me you're gonna do more!
This was a really neat video! I like this sort of long-form analytical look into an entire OST, and would be interested in additional videos of this type.
This is wonderful and insightful ♥
Number one game i want a remake of, or a prequel.
Leaving a comment to help the algorithm

God this game is so underrated.

ty, you too
sound hyped for this one of my favourite games of all time!
Slambert.
Man id have loved your thoughts in person. But this is next best thing I suppose

awesome video!!!!!!!!
Well now im quite curious what you think about the rest of the OST, in addition to some covers and remixes out there
Did you stream playing this game? I'd love to see you play it!
"Jesse's VODS" channel. A small disclaimer, I was playing LoD and Chrono Trigger for the first time simultaneously so I was struggling keeping up with a lot of info
The song for the royal castle sounds rather similar to “little stranger” by Dawid Posiadlo
I can kinda hear the first couple chords lol.
