I have been learning for 2 years now and am an older student. I have regular lesson but feel like I have lost my way a bit. Then I have just found your lessons, I can’t thank you enough your an amazing teacher and you’ve given me a new zest to get stuck in and practice thank you so much
Started playing guitar almost 5 years ago. At 68 years old! Been playing drums since 1962. Started guitar because I wanted to play John Fahey type things. So I started fingerpicking. As a result I cannot play with a pick at all. But I always follow your channel and have learned a great deal from you. So I appreciate the instruction! Maybe I’ll get a pick. Thanks!
Rob mate you're a darling. I've been playing for 50 yrs or more and done the pubs and clubs circuit. I watch your video for a couple of reason.. 1. You dig out stuff I'd forgotten I knew.. 2. You're style of teaching. Tickled pink with some of your comments..don't ever stop mate. I run a little get together with a bunch of people on a Wednesdsy and I recommend you to all of them. Keep it up buddy.
Love your channel. You are great teacher. Always get a chuckle out of your posts. Especially the comments about the horse sh_ _ and the boots. Seriously though great instructions do appreciate what you are doing Sir. It’s -36 degrees with wind chills-43 here in western Canada at the moment. I have been getting through the winter days enjoying playing guitar with your insight and inspiration. Keep up the great work Brother.
Love your approach to teaching, Rob. You have a way of demystifying that obviously comes second nature to you. Hope you enjoy doing this as much as we enjoy learning from you.
Thanks Rob, this was so informative, you explain so clearly even an old fart (74) like me gets it you encourage me to improve with every lesson. Brilliant
Thanks Rob, always a pleasure to tune in and see what’s on offer each week. Will be giving that song a bash and look forward to the travelling blueberries 😁
Once again a great mentor passing invaluable info, I've been trying to get the pick to work by going deeper or harder but this, man this is another bit of info that can save time in the learning process. Thanks again for sharing your time and experience with us.
Great video Rob - I found the bit where you graduated from single down strums up to the 'song strum' very helpful. Any news of Angie? - Enjoy the cuppa.
I'm really diggin your vids and you should be up to a million subs pretty soon. Anyhow, I play guitar with no picks, just my fingers and I play percussively, which means I hammer onto the strings with fingers and the side of my hand or my thumbs. The first half of my playing time I was a drummer, so when I got into guitar I guess, as my style developed, I started beating on or hammering on the strings. I had a bucket of picks in front of me, but when I tried them, I figured, what's the use, so I dropped them and just used my hands and fingers. I started playing in public at open mics and community suppers and luncheons, people started complimented my singing and guitar playing , also saying that it sounded like I was playing guitars and a set of drums at the same time. I was startled and said, gee, maybe I need to stop doing that, I thought it meant that I was fukkin up. But those people from my audience said, oh no! Keep on doing it the way you are doing it, it sounds great. I still like to pick up a pick and doing the strum once in a while, so thanks for your video, but my comfort zone is no picks, just me beating on my guitars. See my pic? I'm a lefty playing, custom made for lefties guitars. You have a great youtube channel here! I'm a disabled vet at 72 years old with nonthin to lose. Hey! check out a song called No Time To Lose by Tarney/Spencer Band. (70's era) I love to play the song and it is awesome. do a lesson based on the song please. Alan Tarney played with The Shadows and produced the band Aha! Take On Me. Spencer was Alan's drummer in Tarney Spencer they did 3 albums. Alan Tarney with his bandmate from Tarney Spencer band emigrated from Australia to the UK for the same reason the Brothers Gibb did.
Good stuff as usual Rob but as I pointed out in one of your previous vids it all goes wrong when I try the upstrokes. I’ve tried every combination of arm, wrist, grip and pick angle but I just can’t strum consistent upstrokes. Please help!

Great video
Well done
I obviously dont hold mine right because it twists around in my fingers or I drop it!
They always twist around. You’ll learn how to manipulate it back into position over time.
Such a useful technique,I’ve been trying to work that out,do you hit harder or faster,no just squeeze the
Hej thank you for this Song, yeah so nice. I beginning new. Please , come on can you show us , my sweet Lord please ?

Really love your channel Rob could you explain why all ‘ands’ seem to be down strokes .. I’m a confused beginner 🙄
We play the ‘ands’ with a down stoke in this song as we are saving the ‘up’ strokes for when we double up to 16.
Quite awesome that you’re playing a 12 string . Not the easiest to play and strum . Nice , I say !
+++++ good teaching
Pick thickness?
0.73
Thanks again … (I’m awkward with a pic … but need to keep learning : )
👍😎
Your capo is upside down its much less intrusive the other way around, just saying😃
