I was a teen age schoolboy with my first guitar when the Animals hit the top. One of the first songs I tried to master, trying all the time. Hilton Valentine is the Guitarist playing in The Animals. Recently watched a video doc short on UA-cam showing how he had that unique way of playing. I followed along and play like you are demonstrating and it sounds tops. Our dearly missed Hilton was 77 Jan 2021. That hit record still sends those so-called chills or vibes up the chakra. I'm 73 now and sing and play the song at open mics and community events. I have a wilder way of playing it, but with you showing the way I finally get to do it proper. But at the next event I by habit will go back to my wild way of playing it. I have learned by ear no lessons. Nowadaze on the UA-cam it is fun to follow lessons. With my wild or untaught way of playing guitar there might be an occasional "wow he really butchered That song!" mixed in with a smattering of applause. I'll be on board checking things out. I spent 1973 and 1974 stationed at RAF Bentwaters, near Ipswich. I loved every minute of those years there. I still play and sing at 73 and I do not charge a penny. I like Joni Mitchell's song For Free. Can you do a song or two of the late Great Neil Innes? I am still a big fan of the Bonzo Dog Band. Vivian and Neil. I joined a fan site for Neil Innes and was Percy on Innesboard which was an open chat. We all used a fictitious name on that forum. 2 wonderful gals from California started the site for Neil. How about a clever song by Neil or Vivian?
Seriously, I've been trying for WEEKS to play this song -- never could get it. I have to *stop,* then switch chords, then start playing again. Figured one of these days I'd get fast enough to switch chords if I just kept trying at it. But lifting off on the last note of the strumming pattern, then switching during that time -- of *course* that's how you have to do it. So simple. And if you go listen to the record, you can *hear* exactly that! Crazy! I know of this trick from seeing it in other videos you've done, it just never occurred to me I needed to use it until now. Can't wait until I get the chance to practice tomorrow. I bet I see amazing results very quickly. Thank you!
I play lefty guitar. 73 and living in the USA. Big Kinks fan. Ray Davies awesome songwriter. Mentioning the USA in reference to my previous post. I went from England to New England after my 2 years at RAF Bentwaters. I may be the only guy in the whole USA at open mics singing and playing Bad Blood one of Vivians songs for The Bonzo's. Enjoying your UA-cam videos.
Calm down, I was just wandering why you were talking about the Kinks on a post about the Animals. No harm, no foul. I like the Kinks too, but never got the chance to see them live unfortunately. P. S. Also a lefty ;-)
Amazing...making changes today...open 3rd string and uppicking last 3 notes! Thanks so much Rob. I can't wait to run thru the rest of your videos...very helpful and to the point!
Now, THIS might be something cool I can use! I say 'might be' because I don't use a pic; thumb and fingers only. Need to do some serious practicing. 👍😉 Thanks.
Rob, any chance of, 'The bushes and the Briars', the folk song from the 1967 film, 'Far from the Madding crowd, sung byvthe beautiful Julie Christie? I asked a guy who goes by the name of', 'Ivor Sorefingers', who you may know of? But he wasn't interested. I personally don't have the ear.😊

Thanks for simplifying things!
Looks like my Sunday is now sorted, another great lesson.

All very interesting, but what have the Kinks got to do with this?
But yes, now you mention it, great band.
@@stoopsolo66 I lived 2 years in England. Just mentioning one of my all-time favorites. I do not possess a one-track mind. Is that okay deary?!
Oh! And plus, I mentioned The Animals in my first post. You may not believe it but as I am typing, I'm also chewing bubble gum. Wink Wink!

This is the first song I ever learned in 1990. I was seven.

Fantastic tutorial as always and indepth explanation of how to play this tune.
Pure enjoyment watching and learning from you! Thanks! "Take Good Care Of My Baby" still on my wish list! The way Bobby Vee plays it live 1974!
Hot damn, that is the trick to actually playing this right, great detail thanks 👍🏼
Thank you Rob! I have struggled with that song also! I will try the “open G string” method!
One of lifes mysteries solved thank you.
Always inspirational with the way you explain how to play these great songs! 👍👏👏👏🎸🎸🎸
Great tutorial Rob, l always wondered how the original guitarist got that sound
Cheers Rob... leaps and bounds since I subscribed to your channel

Love the picking pattern and going back to strumming. Thank you.
Who would have thought House of the Rising Sun, would be all about the G String?
Thank you very much.
A CLASSIC ❤😊
brilliant again rob..
Much appreciated yet again Rob
Awesome Lesson mate. Love it.
As a kid I saw a Murray the K show in Coney Island. The Animals did this song!
Excellent !
Back in the day I think it was the first song everyone learned.
Now, THIS might be something cool I can use! I say 'might be' because I don't use a pic; thumb and fingers only. Need to do some serious practicing. 👍😉 Thanks.
Thanks!

Mate, you're cool 😎
I've a long way to go but enjoying the journey 👍
At last! Thanks Rob
Fantastic ❤
Make the second E an E7 (sounds better). And pluck the strings close to the bridge to get a more staccato effect. 👍🏻
Thanks for the tip. I guess it works for other songs too
I want to now see a super duper guitar MASTER to play this with the forbidden knowledge of barre chords.
👍👍
Before everybody learned Smoke on the Water and Stairway To Heaven this was the song that music shops through you out of if you played it.
👌😎
Trouble is that I have spent years playing it without lifting my hand off, it is difficult to change now LOL.
The trick is practice and ahem tempo😂
Of ‘course, that goes without saying but it’s playing the open 3rd that’s ‘the trick’ without which it can’t be played correctly. 👍🏻
Thanks!
Thanks!
