Plot Twist: Said island was where the haunted mansion from Luigi's Mansion used to be. *The following below is what I came up.* King Boo wanted revenge from Luigi, so he set up a sweepstakes with a Best Buy employee for a Beach Party on the place where his mansion used to be before Luigi sucked up all the ghosts from it. The Mario on the ad is actually a ghost in disguise, and the winner would take 3 of his/her friends, and King Boo would force them to be his servants forever. If they'd refused, they would be trapped inside paintings. King Boo would also scheme about giving a free ticket to a beach party to Luigi. So he went there with 5 Toads, and what did King Boo do? He trapped the 5 Toads into paintings, the same kind the 4 winners were trapped into. Luigi had to act fast, and stop King Boo AGAIN! So if you were wondering where the hell Luigi is in Sunshine, he was on the island, in a SECOND mansion, on the same place, the FIRST mansion WAS, saving 5 toads and 4 strangers, and defeati ng King Boo. AGAIN!
A thing redfuzzydice didn't notice in the Green Yoshi pictures is that there was no Juice meter, meaning that at some point, fruits may not have been required to gain access to a Yoshi or use its abilities. Maybe the juice abilities weren't even in the game at that time, making it a late addition to the game's development?
5T00PiD UNiK0ЯИ 凶 I noticed that too. Either the texture or feature wasn't put in the game yet. Maybe Mario just originally just used F.L.U.D.D's spray noodle while on Yoshi instead of Yoshi using his internal fluids ;)
I seem to remember seeing an old video with a Yoshi egg in the exact same location next to the lighthouse hatching a green Yoshi when Mario simply walked up to it. Yoshi remained green until he ate fruit, when he gained the ability to squirt fruit. At least, that's the best I can remember it. My guess is that Yoshi didn't originally 'evaporate' if not fed, and would instead simply revert back to green again when he ran out of juice. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to this video, but I'd be happy to post it if I ever find it again. Sorry. Also, Rangel Alvarado, I thought I was the only one who remembered the instruction manual screenshots. There were a couple of curious ones in there that I remember. EDIT: Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that video was on a Japanese demo ISO I had on my old hard drive. I don't remember where I had originally downloaded it from, but I'll see if I can find it.
Some things are definitely changed, like the pipe to Sirena Beach, Delphino Plaza windows looks streched and unfinished, and those Ricco Harbor blocks at 5:55.
This is the same reason why Yoshi is green in the prerelease screenshots. In the final version of the game green is the default colour of Yoshi when he hasn't been fed a fruit. This is why you usually never get to ride a green Yoshi and only get to see him turn green when he's run out of fruit, aka when he's about to die. Based on the lack of fruit indicator on the Yoshi egg in the screenshot where it's shown, it's probable that Mario had to just walk up to the egg (without any fruit) to ride Yoshi in this build of the game. Hence why Yoshi defaults to the colour he has when he hasn't eaten any fruit, which is green.
Oh. My original comment was supposed to be funny so i thought your reply was supposed to be funny, which it wasnt, so i said something i thought was unfunny. Sorry.
Yeah, cause Sunshine was supposed to be Super Mario 64 2 and as such, uses a lot of assets from the canned sequel, such as Mario's more enthusiastic design and even voice clips from Super Mario 64 spliced in with the new voices he would've had in the sequel.
this cd seems like the kind of thing someone would make up for a creepypasta. everything just looks so... weird. scrumpy please let us know if you experience any paranormal activity in the near future
Differences I noticed in the preview: The beginning of the "Sunshine Theme" didn't make it into the final game. The promotional video shows that Mario's swimming animation can go much faster and also is able to ride a white blooper. Mario's F.L.U.D.D. goes into an upwards direction at 6:04 which is also not possible in the final game. There's a water charge soundeffect whenever Mario's health increases. The red pipe in the overworld is green. The giant blooper boss is black instead of white. Boos look weird (I dunno why, they just do). The three (small) pokey heads at 6:43 don't exist in the final game.
There's been a video in my recommended about this promotional CD for a few weeks now. But now that FuzzyScrumpy is uploading it, guess I have to watch this version
Also watched it the other day. S̶c̶r̶u̶m̶p̶y̶ RedFuzzyDice probably saw it in his related videos and decided to make a video on it since he knew it'd draw in the sick views.
3:49 Actually Green Yoshi appears in the final game. As soon his juice "tank" going to an end he starts blinking before he die and turn into the green one and shoots water (well only for some seconds, so you could say that he doesnt appear)
Another thing I noticed through the video clip and a few screen shots was the FLUDD nozzle on the hud never changes, even though Mario is on Yoshi, or is hovering with the hover nozzle.
Green Yoshi also appeared in the 25th Super Mario Anniversary recap video. After playing Sunshine 5 years later and finding out that Green Yoshi wasn't in the game, I was left really confused.
Nice video! Although I do wish you had gone into more detail about the differences between the game shown on the CD & the actual game we got. They looked pretty interesting!
I feel like something notable is that at 5:10 the first song is , "Isle Dephino" and the theme is the same as the main hub where you go to each level. However, that main hub is called "Delfino Plaza" not "Isle Dephino". Assuming that the preview CD was given out not too long before the game's release, it seems like the main hub had it's name changed from "Isle Dephino" to "Delfino Plaza" close to the games release. Also looked it up a bit now, the island IS called Isle Delfino so i'm fairly certain that at the very least, close to the game's release the island was changed from Dephino to Delfino.
mase598 Well, it seems like a pretty shoddily made disk. It could just be a typo. That seems like a major change to make so close to the game's release.
It seems like the disk wasn't well made, but at the same time it seems like it did have pretty much everything else going for it so I wouldn't put it past a typo or just bad translation of some kind. After all, Delfino and Dephino when pronounced really doesn't sound too different and if whoever did make the disc only heard the name, it's possibly they just heard it wrong.
If you look up on the game's manual, you can see a few pre release screenshots like the blue pianta in delfino plaza market instead of brown, or Yoshi's juice meter with "Hungry" writen below it instead of "Fruit". Oh and there's pre release stuff on the video after the title screen where at least the only differences are some of mario's voice clips but everyone knows that I guess.
Did anyone notice that Corona mountain is dirty in the screenshot and video? I wonder if that could be related to the fact that it was planned to be a full level with episodes (look up on tcrf, there are textures for the level name for episode selection).
You mean Mario had to clean the volcano at one point? It seems as it's just an early colorscheme. After all, they changed it later, but in some cutscenes, the old colors are still visible.
I honestly don't know why, but I just love this whole premonitional disc thing. I have always been interested in betas of games and this is just super cool to me
I actually remember that video trailer. I don't think I've seen it on youtube, but I've definitely seen it before. Lol, 2002 feels like a century away, even though it's almost two decades away now.
Fun fact. I remember a shortened version of the promotional video airing on TV as a commercial in Canada for a very brief time. What struck me as unusual is they ran the commercial AFTER the game had already launched. Unfortunately, I can't find it at all anywhere online. I can only find the other TV spot that also aired in the US, which they aired in Canada a few days after the promo video version stopped getting played. The only reason I remember it so well is because I remember Blooper being black in the commercial, and wondered why he was white after I played the actual game.
OMFG it's old paint. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Sunshine (3rd favorite game of all time, one spot ahead of Melee), but the nostalgia really hit me hard when I saw that paint OS
well, green yoshi IS in the game, it's just that they're only colored green when they're about to die from starvation, or when they touch water. it's weird that they removed a rideable green yoshi, but still somewhat kept the color in the game. I wonder if Best Buy had any other promotions with preview discs like this, I know their video game based promotions were extremely short lived in comparison to what Target did back in the day, but I'd like to look into what else they did
How much Sunshine content can there possibly be to talk about? I can't imagine you getting much use out of this channel a few months from now, as cool as it is
I remember a nintendo/sunshine website in the early 2000s where there was tons of information on the finished/released game. and there was a fludd that you could pick up with your mouse and wash goop off of the screen on various sections of the site. you got a shine sprite for each screen, and it rewarded you with wallpapers, screen savers, and tips. I miss that site so much! if you manage to find it with the way back machine you have to pm me
The manual i have for the game super mario sunshine has all of those screen shots in it. With the unfinished backgrounds, weird health meter, green yoshi, and everything else you mentioned
When I wanted to get super mario sunshine, the amazon site offered a regular version and a player's choice edition. That one featured a screen shot of the beta bianco hills with the red life meter. I was very confused as a kid, since I never found that place.
well, if you think its an early version of toad, its not because in previous mario games, he looked nothing like that! and if you look at sonic, and photoshop a picture of sonic and make it really pixely, it looks exactly like him!
At 4:38, the number on the life counter changes in size between screenshots. I'm almost certain the life counter had an animation where it grew and shrunk on a loop.
I watched that commercial on TV. I even saw it when I was at Walmart, I kept asking my mom for it, I finally got it at christmas. But omg, I still remember that music from that commercial.
Fun Fact about me at 6:04, I actually had a dream before I was even born of this song in my dream, Way before it was released. So I must have predicted years ago I would listen to this song again in the near future.
Just a little thing. In the music option it says isle Dephino instead of Delphino it might just be a typo or the name could possibly have changed a tiny bit.
Also take note that the number for the blue coins wasn't on the UI display even when the shine count was on screen which is supposed to guarantee that it's there
You missed so many things in the screenshots. I guess I can't expect TCRF levels of analysis, but how did you miss the pipe to Sirena Beach for crying out loud!
That video clip is actually the original E3 trailer for the game, hence why it sounds like a commercial (because it essentially is) and the earlier version of an actual commercial for the game. It's possible you may not know that because the commercial in question seems to be overshadowed by another commercial for Sunshine (the weird clean is better than dirty and dirty is meaner than clean one). The commercial is essentially a shortened version of this trailer narrated by someone with a Caribbean accent and footage of the final game; the final shot is also the GameCube logo instead of a release date. I find it weird that there exist two different commercials for the same game in the same region.
3rd Place: An exclusive t-shirt that only a limited quanity were produced and is probably pretty rad
2nd Place: 10 lousy bucks
If it was a shirt made around 2001-02, it was likely very not rad.
The 2nd Place Prize Should’ve Been: $90 Dollars.
Actually, it is even worse because you can only use it on BestBuy.
@@TheAmbientWarrior Yeah, 2-3 washes and the colors probably starts to disappear :P
10 bucks doesn't get anyone very far. Especially in California!
Nobody won first prize? No, somebody won it. And they were taken to an island, framed for a crime and sentenced to forced labor.

at 5:30 Delphino is misspelled.
So did you
It's Delfino
Sorry Ima grammar nazi
It's actually Dolphin Pizza.
Could I have some Dolphin Fries too?
What happened to Dolphin Shine Stars?
No, no, no. It’s spelled donkey poppers.
Thank you for exploring into Super Mario Sunshine. There's not much love or memory for this game. I appreciate your efforts.
i feel like sms fans are different .. they realize the beauty of this entire game.
I feel like something notable is that at 5:10 the first song is , "Isle Dephino" and the theme is the same as the main hub where you go to each level. However, that main hub is called "Delfino Plaza" not "Isle Dephino". The pipe in the fourth screenshot is different from the final game.
+Nightfall it looks like a unfinished model
This was really well made. Good job and keep up the good work :)
super dank rare mario
If you look up on the game's manual, you can see a few pre release screenshots like the blue pianta in delfino plaza market instead of brown, or Yoshi's juice meter with "Hungry" writen below it instead of "Fruit". You mean Mario had to clean the volcano at one point? It seems as it's just an early colorscheme. After all, they changed it later, but in some cutscenes, the old colors are still visible.
I think it's supposed to be greenery... I imagine they changed it because the textures looked bad.
Right it's greenery, plants idk. The texture was really blurry, but it still is. Kinda weird how they changed it to fully orange too.
Oh right it could be that. I kinda thought about that but still wanted to believe it was some green goop or just dirt like the one in the test level.
That test level is all kinds of messed up lol. I wish all the other test levels were still accessible.
I honestly don't know why, but I just love this whole premonitional disc thing. I have always been interested in betas of games and this is just super cool to me
Dude those snoring sounds scared me
I actually remember that video trailer. I don't think I've seen it on youtube, but I've definitely seen it before.
Lol, 2002 feels like a century away, even though it's almost two decades away now.
god you're so much better than that Magic Scrumpy guy I'd probably shoot myself before watching him
Ashton Gillis I think the joke here is that they're either tge same person or sound so much alike.
The joke is that they’re literally the same person.
Heard about this recently and checked out the links as well, good video for those who hadn't heard
Is it just me, or do Mario's eyes look really blurry in those early screenshots. Nothing else looks blurry, maybe it was an unfinished texture?
I think it was a fudged LOD thing, because it looks normal when really close to the camera
Fun fact. I remember a shortened version of the promotional video airing on TV as a commercial in Canada for a very brief time. OMFG it's old paint.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Sunshine (3rd favorite game of all time, one spot ahead of Melee), but the nostalgia really hit me hard when I saw that paint OS
To think the game looks so beautiful. Shows it takes time to polish a game. This is some amazing and interesting stuff for Sunshine fans
Funny.... the other video that showed off this beta was in my recommendeds and now RedFuzzyDice makes a video on it...
WOW!!!
I remember the commercial ad! I was way too young to remember, but I did.
well, green yoshi IS in the game, it's just that they're only colored green when they're about to die from starvation, or when they touch water. it's weird that they removed a rideable green yoshi, but still somewhat kept the color in the game. Also take note that the number for the blue coins wasn't on the UI display even when the shine count was on screen which is supposed to guarantee that it's there
*tmw you've already seen this*
That trailer was also available on the internet, I remember watching it back in 2002
You missed so many things in the screenshots. I guess I can't expect TCRF levels of analysis, but how did you miss the pipe to Sirena Beach for crying out loud!
I think a channel like this based on metroid prime would be heaven
I was eating an apple when I heard the sound at 2:38 and I thought it was just my crunching.
This was actually pretty cool! To see my favorite game in a early state.
2:40 was that a horse?
Wasn't that pipe at 3:18 red in the final game?
Jamboree Master yes it was
The pipe in the fourth screenshot is also green instead of red.
Uhg. Can they just make a sequel or an HD version already?
This made me realize Mario has 8 health in sunshine.
2:40 wtf
?
this brings back memories..I hope one day we can get a sunshine 2
Where do you hear the sunshine theme in Super Mario Sunshine?
Noah & Toad just wait on the press start screen for about a minute
This is one of my favorite channels hands down. IMO its even better than Stryder ( I love his channel too )
