Here at Exeter Devon (where I'm from), the Stagecoach, Dartline, and Conutry Bus buses are all single doors! In Cornwall and Plymouth, some of the Plymouth City Bus/Go South West buses have 2 doors but the rest have 1 door.
You are correct that this is a former MetroBus vehicle, which is now a subsidary of your company. Buses of this length are too small to require a rear door.
Metrobus has been part of Go-head for decades, The difference now is that they are under the Go-ahead london umbrella which they weren't before. Abellio run 8.9m length dual door versions by the way also.
Hello to answer some of your questions on most newer buses they now have breakable windows instead of Emergency Exit doors and this bus is from metrobus they are basically another part of your company that they got the bus from
Great Video as always Anton, I'd imagine that having the single door reminds you of your days on the busses back in Yorkshire although up north we do t have the privilege of having an electric ramp as we still do it by hand
Bus Driver Jonny ...lol 😂...yes jonny...I couldn't believe it was an electric ramp controlled from the cab...amazing...they should have these electric ramps up there...they are really good and save getting out the cab and bending down to lift the ramp edge! Congrats on your channel...it's great to see other drivers ideas on making videos and what topics to cover! Keep it up! 😀👍🎬📹➡✔
This is a normal bus layout for my local area. Most of ours infect all as all that I know have an emergency exit door at the back. It's probably because London buses have two doors on them normally. Take care mate. I really like the channel. Oh and don't get too snowed in lol.
My local H28 bus was until recently like this bus. The bus had so few passengers on the majority of the route i guess it never warranted having separate entry and exit. Maybe i saw 5 passengers on a normal day? Also the roads it runs on are very tight sometimes, so that could also be a reason for choosing a shorter bus with subsequently a single door. Nowadays the route is much busier and so we have double door buses.
In Nottingham, we dont have any busses with more than one door... Used to have multiple doors on the bendy busses and super old ones in like the 80s, but not now
WHAT BENDY BUSES IN NOTTINGHAM, I DOUBT THAT AND TAKE THIS AS FALSE INFO AS NO ONE HAS MENTIONED ANY SUCH BUSES THERE BEFORE YOU NOW AND THERE HAS BEEN NO SUCH INFO OR PUBLICITY EVER OF BENDIES IN NOTTINGHAM, SO A TOTAL LOAD OF NONSENSE !!!!.THE ONLY UK LOCATIONS TO SEE BENDIES ACCORDING TO LOUBLIC KNOWLEDGE INFO AND PIUBLICITY ARE BIRMINGHAM, BRIGHTON AND HATFIELD !!!.
peter buckley Go and do a Google search before telling somebody they’re talking nonsense. It’s what I did, and it’s completely correct. There used to be bendy buses in Nottingham. Also, you don’t need to use all-caps. It makes it unnecessarily difficult to read your comment. I couldn’t imagine trying to read that if I were dyslexic.
Single deckers in London like anywhere else, have to be used on routes with low bridges that forbid double deckers. One location is Vallance Road, Bethnal Green, famous for the Kray family where the 12 foot bridge goes under the East Anglia main railway line. London Transport had over 1000 long AEC Merlin and short Swift single deckers from the late 1960s, but were unreliable and most withdrawn within a decade.
Agree legroom is a major issue on so many buses. The more comfortable buses are the more appealing it will be to potential customers along with WiFi & USB power.
This got transferred from a contract loss of one of your sub company, in Bromley, since then your company keep old buses which I love, it's amazing to see them being re-used!
Nice. Will you be driving route P5 on Saturday morning. I want to film this route from the front view but I fear that other bus drivers would say no. If you ever see me, would you let me film from the front?
1 door slows the bus line as passengers have to queue to let eachother get on and off. I've only ever seen that in the uk and Ireland. Some buses in Hamburg have 5 doors.
Live in Scotland and.still have emergency doors on the buses. On deckers, for example the Enviro 400 MMC, they are aft of the rear wheels and on single deckers like Enviro 300 etc,.they are between the front/rear wheels in the low floor area. Could be wrong but dual doored buses, as in London, the exit door counts as an emergency exit, hence why none is present.
great video anton love it :] are MAN Enviro 200 buses have there emergency exit in the middle of the bus great leg room i also noticed are older transbus tridents have more leg room on the wheel are but are 2006 alx400s have less leg room very cramped .
buses in south of uk ...yes the 400 don't have much legroom but the later models are very good...it helps to have that extra room as I don't like 'being cramped' on a bus seat! Some buses have centre emergency exit doors...it's nice to see all kinds of buses as they differ in so many ways! 👍😀
There’s a short wheelbase bus, I think it’s an Enviro 200, that sometimes operates in my area and it has the emergency door in the centre of the bus, in between the rear and front wheels. Pretty funny how short it is 😄
There are quite a few single decker bus routes in London. Most of these can handle 12.0/ 10.9/ 10.8/ 10.4/ 10.2/ 9.7/ 9.3 metre buses. The lengths listed are compatible with two doors. However, some very tight routes, such as the E5 and W4 serve very tight roads and turns, which mean the routes are forced to utilize with 8.9 metre or shorter buses. The bus in the video is 8.9 metres long. The E5 and W4 do really deserve longer buses, they are the most busiest single door bus routes in London and are currently struggling. I'm sure the routes could accommodate at least 9.7 - 10.4 metre buses. They definitely deserve them. I am a regular user of the E5 an it is always filled to the brim. I am often left behind at stops and have to wait for 3- 4 buses to pass, for me to be able to get on a bus. That bus is probably still quite packed as well! The W4 saw dual door buses when it was at Go- Ahead once in a while. The E5 with Metroline West and First London too. 8876 (a long 10.8 metre bus, allocated to route E7) has been on the E5, under Abellio. The mistake Arriva and Abellio made when tendering for the E5 and W4, was that they didn't specify the next length of bus (9.7 metre, which is dual door compatible). The rear exit door would be very useful for passengers intending to vacate the bus. When the E5 is packed, passengers find that they are sometimes still stuck on the bus, trying to reach the front doors, when the driver shuts the doors and continues to drive. The E5 and W4 should get their justice!! Great Video as always, DoubleDeckerAnton
Hi Anton, awesome video as usual! :) One question I have to ask is, does a large amount of passengers say thank you when they leave on single door buses in London? I've been on a couple in London and always say thanks to the driver when I alight, however I wanted to know if others do. Good luck Anton!! :)
Hi there, apologises for replying 4 years later. I'd say more people say thankyou on 1 door bus operation, compared to 2 or 3 door operation. Its more personal on a 1 door bus.
I've been/seen these one door bus on a few times in Buckinghamshire (I go there for holidays as child) and last year in canning town taking a 323 bus but with the one door as where I had my nephew with me and had the whole bus as they were doing kids school run bus at one point
Great video as always Anton. I think this bus is based at Nu-Venture at Aylesford Kent. I've seen it on 185, 130 & 131 routes. Think I've caught it a few times. 🚌😀
Louis Boulton ...yes...I drove 1 door buses for 10 years in Yorkshire....I like 2 and 3 door buses...except when people decide to open the door themselves when alighting inbetween bus stops 😠
I drive this type all most of the time, just not in London! Lol. Although we don’t have luxury in electric ramps! Just good old fashioned manual ones, which is just as well as I’m needed to move people out the way to board!
Where I live single decker buses with the door at the front are really commen and when ever I go ona single decker I always sit by the emergency exit as it has more leg room
Your centre doors dubs as the emergency exit whereas on single door non London buses the emergency exit is usually on the offside - usually in the centre

Yup
Nope it’s not
@@light3r706 yes its is. Its just london normally
@@Ron_TTE if it’s the enviro200hcity buses then ok but the original single deckers with 1 door is rare
X26 is also a must try. Even as a passenger, Croydon to Heathrow in just under 1 1/2 hours on Sundays, much longer on weekdays.
I’m used to these buses and to the 731-762 lol, great video!
Can confirm, Metro Bus uses those seat cover designs.
Well done Anton - nice to see variety in the fleet!

The_ALEX_ELLIS_Channel ...yes thanks Alex....there is only one of them driving on the route!

Metrobus has been part of Go-head for decades, The difference now is that they are under the Go-ahead london umbrella which they weren't before. Abellio run 8.9m length dual door versions by the way also.

The centre door is classed as the emergency exit
Jenkins Buses I think that this bus is from the B14
Jenkins Buses ...thanks...yes...breakable windows are a cheaper alternative to having a door! ☺
@@andyburbidge4938 Don't forget roof panels for an emergency exit as well.

New to Metrobus, then when Go Ahead bought Metrobus out Croydon and Orpington depot passed over to them and all vehicles and locations were included.
At 5:38 there are metrobus maquette but really unusually a go ahead maquette right next to the metrobus one ☝🏼 very unusual on buses these days!
Wright Eclipse's usually have their door controls on the back of the destination display, we don't normally get Enviro 200's & 300's where I live

they use single door buses to stop fare evasion.
