I think the issue is that they can manage driving on the open road but are really bad at making the car go where they want at slow speeds, in small spaces and when reversing. It’s a different skill set to changing lanes and obeying traffic lights, some people’s brains are terrible with 3d spatial awareness and translating steering wheel movements into reverse
Arif should have been referred to the police. Ample evidence of dangerous driving, bus lane misuse, admitting to not wearing a seatbelt etc. In 2002 they did have the manpower to handle that sort of thing.

0:35 to all BMW drivers out there. An indicator is a leaver on the left or right side of your steering wheel that activates a blinking orange light that tells other drivers and sometimes pedestrians on which way you are turning.
BMW have weird indicators, they have to be pressed the way you're indicating to cancel them and have a tendancy not to self cancel, so they end up indicating all over the place so people just don't bother, it's akward fighting the muscle memory of how a normal indicator works and not worth confusing other drivers with.

Arif’s Rover 400 has no MOT history, which means it expired before 2006. He must have wrapped it around a tree or rear ended a bus not long after this. UPDATE: I’ve now found that the tax expired in October 2003, so he definitely killed it at some point that year.
I wouldnt really call the gti a high performance car. It’s a fun hot hatch, I actually rate those higher than supras but they are not high performance for sure

There was also an Australia’s worst driver in 2003, with a similar format. 8 hopeless drivers for all different reasons. The winner won an Alfa Romeo 147 and the worst had her car crushed. It was a bit more brutal than the others. It never had a second season.

The car that lost it braking for the dog was not the problem. The problem was the lack of ABS brakes. Locking up the rear brakes would put anyone into an uncontrollable spin.

we got the same kind of show in Germany, but after the first 2 episodes, the German version of the DMV came after all the drivers and took their licenses away.... so the show got canceled!

I find it interesting that this show clearly started the concept of this show but from watching the others, it's clear we have one of the hardest thresholds to become a driver. I have absolutely no idea what they teach Canadian drivers because it feels like it's barely anything.
This was decades ago, but the driving skills (or lack thereof) of the British public is still astonishingly bad. You see people going too fast, going too slow, not indicating on a curve, indicating when they’re not going to turn, sudden stopping. Whether amateur learner driver or a senior citizen who clearly shouldn’t be on the road, how any of them got a drivers license is beyond me. There’s never any police about to stop them either.
That lady owns (or owned) a 90s Supra and a 205 GTI?!?! I admire and f'ing hate her at the same time. Also this show gave them a Saab 900 and an Audi 100 Avant. Wth🤯

Compared with drivers today, these folks are doing pretty well.
I find it interesting that this show clearly started the concept of this show but from watching the others, it's clear we have one of the hardest thresholds to become a driver. I have absolutely no idea what they teach Canadian drivers because it feels like it's barely anything.
This was decades ago, but the driving skills (or lack thereof) of the British public is still astonishingly bad. You see people going too fast, going too slow, not indicating on a curve, indicating when they’re not going to turn, sudden stopping. Whether amateur learner driver or a senior citizen who clearly shouldn’t be on the road, how any of them got a drivers license is beyond me. There’s never any police about to stop them either.
