I don't think it was a budget problem.. I think it was more like a licensing/contract problem.. Some record company may have an exclusivity contract with the guy. So, he can only do singing with that company.

God I love the Yakuza series. This one has a great detective story to it and I really grew to love this new cast. I want more Sega!
While I'll miss Kiryu, I'm excited to see the Yakuza team trying something new while keeping the same spirit of the Yakuza series and will probably buy this game

@@Meekail 5 is being remastered! I'm very excited. Tried playing the original version recently and it's too sluggish and janky compared to 60fps and upscaling on the PC releases or the smoothness of the dragon engine

Who else always plays these games with Japanese audio, and English subtitles? More immersive for me.
I always think that I wouldn’t mind if the tailing missions were just cut scenes. I don’t need to control our character behind someone for five minutes, pausing at every corner to duck as they turn around and go, “Huh?!?” Just give us a little sneaky cutscene, give us our exposition, and then back to the game.

Yes I don't mind it. I took 9 levels of Japanese classes though so it's not too bad to follow along. Can even read the hirgana and katakana in the game. Adds to the immersion a bit.
Because the dub is good in this and knowing yakuza games have hours upon hours of dialogue, I went with english dub.

Those Pauses when opening a text messages are because the game pulls audio and the UI for the text from the drive as fast as it can instead of caching. it was an issue in 6 and Kiwami 2 as well but judgment it seems worse.
It was never an issue in 6 / K2.

I like to play the game in Japanese, with English subs for purposes of immersion. The voice acting in the English version seems pretty good though.
I was impressed with the dub. The orginal Japanese dub doesn't win by much of a margin if I'm being totally honest.

The main villian (Pierre Taki) was caught with drugs not the MC (Kimura Takuya)
Yeah! Hamura's original actor got caught with drugs that they have to change his face. Which was surprising how fast they did it because Hamura was a main character in the this game.

This game jas been a great time. It's nice to see Kamurocho through a slightly different lens. The only thing I didn't like is that the soundtrack seems to be more subtle in terms of their compositions. It's avery minor complaint.
Yeah I start off on yakuza 6 and watched the rest of the series on yt, definitely getting this one on stadia this week since I don’t have the ps5 yet I play on xb1s
I really hope that Judgement and the rest of the Yakuza series eventually come to PC. Got Yakuza 0 on a sale a few months back and loved it so much
Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2 are on PC, they're basically remasters of the first two games, as far as I can tell.

@PC GamePass is Scarletts demise same with Kiwami 1. Like got the game because Jim Sterling sang the series praises. Yeah playing Yakuza Kiwami 1 first with no idea who these characters are. Getting that ring for Chapter 1 was annoying.
Solid 8.3 for me. Had some slow moments but the ending was phenomenal. Feels just like a Yakuza games with all the twists and turns in narrative you'd expect. Sub stories (side cases in Judgment) have all the wackiness and irony you've come to love from other Yakuza titles. It is a must play for fans of the series!

Already pre-ordered...LOVE the Yakuza series and patiently waiting on 3,4,5 to be remastered (beat the others, including 6 and still on Fist of the North Star). Can't wait for this at midnight!!!
This game completely flew under my radar. As someone who's only just gotten to grips with the Yakuza series, this looks like a must-buy for me. It took me a while to kind of "get" Yakuza and get immersed in its campy brilliance, but once I did I simply couldn't get enough of it. Anyway, keep up the sterling, work, man - you're still the best reviewer on this platform.

Yeah. I thought it was a Japanese GTA clone until I played Kiwami through PS+. The more I played it, the more it kinda reminded me of one of my favorite anmes, Durarara. Been hooked ever since

Here's hoping this game does well in the west. I've purchased every Yakuza game since the first one on PS2. It's such an amazing series, that needs more attention.
I used to own a ps2 console and still play some of its games on pcsx2 but i didn't know Yakuza was on PS2.

Correction I forgot that Yakuza 0 did have a bit of the same kind of fighting style. Slipped my mind on this one. Also the drug bust hit the main antagonist not the main character.
As for the game its got some issues but its enjoyable as well. LONG though. One of the few I had to move on from before 100% finishing. Was at 45 hours and still going

I'm playing through Judgment now and having a blast. It's a nice breath of fresh air while we wait for the next mainly "Shin Ryu ga Gotoku" or "Shin Yakuza" game with the new series protagonist. I find Yagami really fun both gameplay-wise and as a character--kind of reminds me a little of Akiyama, although Yagami is definitely more of a dry, good-natured kind of guy than a swaggering philosophizer.
Sometimes I wish I could go back in time find my younger gamer self and tell me dude gaming in 2020 is going to be nuts!
I hope it also comes out on PC, Kiwami 2's dragon engine looked fantastic there

I just purchased this online on ps4 pro(becuase of your review), I did not buy sinking city and I don't think I will either in the future. Before this I purchased days gone,resident evil 2, read dead redemption 2,GOD of war. I did not buy battlefield V. We all have our unique taste for games. I have NOT purchased a sports game in like 10 to 15 years..lol
I did buy battlefield 1 when it came out. Played it for like 18 months strait. Most fun I have had in a while. It was the game that brought me back to gaming.. then the disaster of battlfield V came🤔

I’ve been a fan since Yakuza 3 on PS3, it was a random buy and I’m so glad I did. Absolutely love the series as well as all the attention the series has been getting. The fighting in this game looks awesome! This was a buy before I watched the review since the Devs have been doing such an awesome job these past couple of years.
Anyone ever notice in the Yakuza games, there's always one dude that looks way more realistic than everyone else?

Judgement is a spin-off of the Yakuza series and that's perfectly fine with me. I'm a huge fan of the Yakuza franchise, which makes this game a definite must buy. Graphically, the game looks great thanks to the Dragon Engine. The voice acting is sold with the option to switch over to Japanese dialog. The combat is fun and over the top. The story seems to be pretty good as well. The stealth sections can be tedious. The sections where you need to have several objectives in a single photo can be annoying, especially due to the fact that the objectives change randomly. However, they don't detract from the overall experience whatsoever. Thanks Karak for another solid and detailed review. I really appreciate the hard work!

It was the Yakuza named Hamura whose Voice Actor was imprisoned for the drug scandal and replaced. His VA and Face Likeness was replaced. The actor for Yagami is the same.

Playing through this atm. Really enjoying being back in that world after playing all the mainline games. I can't get away with the English voice acting though, always play through in Japanese.
The Engish VA cast did so well, and they chose well for the characters. I felt it would be unfair to dismiss them just for the sake of purity and I'm glad I chose to let it ride. It gave me a chance to purely focus on the action on screen and find it a bit more relatable regardless of the difference in culture.
I love the games regardless but I'm happy they are making sure to be meticulous about who is involved in the games. I want more people to see the beauty of these games and I know that the language barrier had been a turn off for some of my friends in the past so even if I got them hooked through a dub that then made them so invested that they didn't care whether the past games had one or not because they just NEEDED to go play them then good, I want that.
I want more people playing, there's literally no reason to not want more options.
Sounds like this game is running for the ACG game of the year 2019.

Almost 50 hours in and despite an overly drawn out story (25 hours) and repetitive content, it's pretty excellent
I am waiting release day for my copy that's for sure. Damn Tuesday Aus release date and not you know, for the weekend like the digital release today.
The contact-hardening shadows look great, but it's a 1-shadow-per-object thing so it looks weird as hell when you walk into distance of multiple light sources, kinda like the shadows in Gears of War 1 and 2.
Also, the contrast is cranked way way up, I dunno if this could be fixed in settings.
Edit: Also the SSAO is laughable. It seems like everyone 1 foot near a wall has a cartoon outline around them.
Just finished this and damn the gameplay was fun and the characters and story was soooo good and well written. And looked amazing on Series X where I played it. Cannot recommend enough.
This game looks so clean on PS5. Started my playthrough a few days ago and everything looks amaing. The team who made the textures did an excellent job. Now I wish they pushed an HDR update to the game. It would look amazing running down Kamurocho at night with all those big bright signs

The Yakuza has been dumb down to a CHILDISH TURN BASED J-RPG. They should bring back the Action Adventure Beat Em Up genre with a VERY LARGE OPEN WORLD LEVEL DESIGN!
We have to wait for a while before the sequel comes out. We are waiting for Yakuza Dead Souls, Ishin and Kenzan to be remastered on PC and Judgment to be ported on PC.

As a turn based RPG not set in medieval times but set in modern day Japan it is good. You are able to walk around and is different than any traditional turn based RPG. But as a hardcore Yakuza fan who likes and chose playing Yakuza for the action IT SUCKS! It is less serious, less drama, comedic and CHILDISH LIKE A DRAGON QUEST! We hardcore Yakuza fans wants the previous Action Adventure Beat 'Em' Up. I repeat we chose to play this game because we want fighting!
Now you players who likes RPG of course just likes to play it because its a good RPG. If you will understand my feelings you will say its an abomination but you sound like you are fine as long as you play a good RPG game. Yes I like RPGs but not in this situation. If so, I think I would be more down to try these games out. I know, it may sound weird, but it’s more immersive imo. And that’s what I like.

I just downloaded this game over the weekend on PS Plus. It's a ton of fun so far!
I'm just digging into anything and everything Yakuza and I got Judgement for free from the Sony rewards program. One mission in and I'm hooked. That fight system is something else.
The sequel looks like it expands even further with a third style

So hidden everybody interested by yakuza has known about it for months and even the playstation channels promote it pretty heavily lol.

@@terencecaron2922 Yakuza games started getting popular here like 2 years ago and it's still not something that everyone even knows about. This is a lesser known spin-off getting somewhat sneakily released at the end of a generation.
It might be an hidden gem just like Fist of the North Star. Yakuza 0 probably the only one that got a huge exposure, even Yakuza 6 was overshadowed by God of War. Kiwami 2 also quite underrated.

Weirdly.. this is the first RGGS game for me. I looked at this game in PSN and didn't know about RGGS were the ones making Yakuza series. It's only after playing this game i get to know about RGGS and this is the Yakuza spin off.
From there i played Fist of North Star: Lost Paradise, followed by Lost Judgment.
Then i started to play the Yakuza series from Y0.
This game is underrated; nobody in my town even mentions it.

Why it isn't called Judge Eyes?
As a Yakuza fan, buying this game was a no brainer-and surprise surprise, I loved it (currently on my second play-through). However, I will admit, I was a little upset that there was no karaoke mini game, but I guess it makes sense since Judgement is a little more ‘serious’ than Yakuza and wouldn’t really match Yagami’s ‘character’. But boy, it would’ve been great if they had a homage to Yakuza 0’s karaoke song ‘Judgement’ as an Easter Egg. Honestly seems like a missed opportunity...
Getting this in the first sale it gets. i'm a hard sucker for immersive and believable worlds and stories. Absolutely loved Yakuza series and i'm down right excited to go back to Kamurocho because of the immersive feeling of the town. However i wish they put in the effort to make a new (albeit fictional) town to explore instead.
There are many things you can say of the Yakuza games. Believe is not one of them.
@@hihihi1q23 The world is fully beliavable what are you talking about lol, the stories are over the top but Judgment features a fully realistic story.
