In this short video, we’re going to talk about the best food to help prevent polyps. A polyp is an abnormal tissue, or pedunculated tissue, in your colon. Certain colon polyps can increase the risk of colon cancer.
The best food to help prevent polyps may be sauerkraut or pickled vegetables. This is because they contain lactobacillus, which is a specific type of lactic acid bacteria.
    Lactobacillus:
    • Inhibits pathogens
    • Is an antioxidant
    • Is anti-inflammatory
    • Helps to tighten junctions in your colon
    • Binds to carcinogens
    • Can decrease mutations
    • Can decrease pre-cancer growth
With sauerkraut or pickled vegetables, you are not only getting probiotics but also prebiotics. A prebiotic is a fiber that feeds the microbes and makes short-chain fatty acids, one being butyrate. This could help reduce the stimulation of polyps and decrease inflammation.
You don’t need a tremendous amount of sauerkraut or pickled vegetables, but it may be beneficial to include these foods in your diet throughout the week.

I have struggled with polyps for 15 years. I'm 57 and had a family member pass away from colon cancer. I have been learning from Dr. Berg's videos and started Keto/IF. Now I know what to eat to prevent those little buggers from returning. Strange thing, you would think the gastro doctor would inform the patient about ones diet for prevention, oh, I forgot they just want more patients to keep returning so than can fill their pockets.

I think it goes deeper than that. I think doctors only know what they are taught in med school and because the pharmaceutical companies help run the med schools, they aren't going to learn how to cure health issues with natural medicine such as food and herbs, but rather put a bandaid on the symptom with pharmaceutical drugs because drugs rarely cure the issue and you always have to keep coming back for more drugs.

I’m from Poland and we eat lots of sauerkraut here especially during the winter season. I’m talking good- home made, raw sauerkraut and also pickles. That being said my mother developed colon cancer and my opinion is that number one factor in these type of disease is stress. Not only we stress too much but we don’t know how to actively destress. It’s very important to practice some sort of relaxation be it meditation or yoga or whatever.

He went yesterday to do a colonoscopy, great news he had one tiny polyp. His Doctor told him to keep doing what he is doing because it's working. My husband usually has 4 to 6 polyps when he goes for his colonoscopy. I want to thank you doctor for all your advice you put on here. My husband got colon cancer once before. I had a 2.5 cm polyp removed in July, I thought that I was suffering from an old sports injury as it felt like groin strain and I just lived with it. My doctor was responsible for it being diagnosed, he didn’t know about what thought was groin strain my fault! He just wanted to examine my intestines and send me for a scan, I am glad he did. Luckily I love pickles but had not been eating them very regularly, I will now! I love your videos and I am well aware of what Polyp's are as I had my first one removed on the 15th of Oct. 2021 but that's just the beginning of the story. I apparently was a rare case according to my Doctor because what happened was when he cut out the Polyp he also cut into a blood vein underneath the Polyp but did not realize he had. I need to shorten this story by saying that within 24 hours I was literally bleeding to death internally. I had 12 medical personal in my ICU room force pumping almost 5 units of blood into me. The same Doctor came in and repaired the damage but it was the Nursing staff that kept me alive. I know it was a mistake and we have no plans to sue the Hospital or the Doctor as of now. I can only say that a Colonoscopy is very routine and safe but what happened to me can happen to anyone.

Had my 3rd colonoscopy in 20 years. No polyps found yet. I take a healthy pinch of refrigerated sauerkraut daily, like a vitamin. I started it years ago for gut health and noticed how much more girth was in my,uh, bathroom visits.
My Dad just died from colon cancer. He ate standard American Diet all his life. Got his first colonoscopy at age 89, stage 3 was found.. He just didn't believe in preventative actions. His view was to wait for things to break/ go wrong before addressing it. Don't do that.

@@mettamorph4523 Are you sure it is due to Sauerkraut. May be you are not susceptible, I mean even without eating sauerkraut you may not have polyps. None of my parents ever had polyps but I had one at 55, unbelievable. I am trying to control it through naturopathic means. Even if you have polyps not necessary you get cancer, but when they become large and bleed, get anemic and bowel movements are irregular leading to constipation and digestion issues. So it is important to fix them early. I heard they are connected to inflammation in digestive tract, that is something very important to address..

I slowly slipped back to white bread, gained weight again, A1C 5.8 in December. But oscopy 2 months ago was clean, no polyps.

The thing to realize is that many things that Americans may see as "pickled vegetables" actually do not have those bacteria. You can pickle with time and leaving your veggies submerged in brine and those bacteria will grow when pickling. But things that are just put in vinegar/spices and then heated up to sterilization to can do not. So a jar of pickles on the pickle aisle or a can of sauerkraut will not work. You need to buy the deli style or fresh version or make yourself.

The reason I question this is because after the video I looked up colon cancer rates in Korea because I know they commonly eat a fermented cabbage dish called kimchi. Practically the entire nation eats it almost daily. Yet apparently, "Worldwide, South Korea had the second highest incidence rates of colorectal cancer (CRC) in 2018." from a Nature article. Of course, there could be other factors, but it seems that regular consumption of kimchi was apparently not helping show a low rate of colorectal cancer there.

Usually like to make it with some butter and sauteed onions and cinnamon sugar, not a lot, but just enough to balance with the tartness. Also eating cabbage with a side of mash potatoes alone is a tasty meal. Cabbage is a very versatile thing that can be prepared many ways.

I’m coming from the Mediterranean and I’m glad I grow up with all these food being prepared as standard routine there. My grandfather made the best sauerkraut and vegetables which we call there (turshija). Is easy to make it. You need a Home Depot bucket with a lid, 8-9 small size cabbages, approximately 300g of corse salt, 22 500ml bottles of Poland spring water, and heavy stone to cover everything… maybe I should made a video of this completely natural process of making sauerkraut 😊😊

@@thetruthalwayswins340 It's really easy, but long to write, so I'll send you to 'Our Oily House,' on UA-cam, the video title is 'Simple 2 ingredient Sauerkraut recipe.' I do 1kg of Cabbage, to 1 tablespoon of fine sea salt, & add 1 heaped teaspoon of Carraway seeds to it. If you don't have weights, use a little ramekin, & put a square of kitchen roll over the top, & hold it in place with a rubber band, when it tastes how you like it, usually 10-15 days, refrigerate it. Hope that helps. Take care The Truth. 👍❤️🙂🐶

I had a polyp on my ICV. It was not yet cancerous. They removed my ICV. Bad decision. I changed my diet to your recommendations, and I lost weight, no sugar, few carbs., lots of water. I cured all my diseases.

How interesting to have this video come up in my UA-cam feed when I just had my second surgery yesterday. Had a surgery 2 months ago to remove a few in my intestines my esophagus and my stomach and then another surgery again yesterday to remove one in my lower esophagus a couple in my stomach and zero in my intestine! I bet he's going to tell me to eat sauerkraut just like the doctor did! Sauerkraut is my very favorite appetizer of all-time!

My mother was German and ate a lot of sauerkraut. She had colon polyps removed in her 70s. I suspect the truth is we're living too long, and if one thing doesn't get you, another will, no matter what you do.

I am German too and love sauerkraut and other pickled vegetables - part of Brotzeit - but always have polyps - I am in my 50's - would probably be dead by now if I would not be German or Russian and not have these eating habits...

I will give these foods a try. Both honestly would be hard to get down (definitely not my type of food). But I’m fairly young and have had polyps removed from every colonoscopy and I have leaky gut as well as gluten intolerance. I’m tired of having to work so hard to keep things on track with digestion. Thank you for the video!

I'm the same - I'm fairly young, have leaky gut, gluten intolerance, and have had many polyps removed. Now on top of that in the last 3 years I have gotten diverticulitis many times. I'm eating raw saurkraut, kefir, and fermented pickles daily. :(
