It’s an uncomfortable discussion for the anti-immigrant grifters like Farage because the discussion inevitably leads to questioning why our society has such a huge gulf in wealth in contrast with levels of pay and taxation for the majority of the population. There’s only one section of society that have the ability to create and influence such a disproportionate wealth gap and it’s certainly not the immigrant population. Well, here's Russell's argument that I understood from this debate. 1) The services like NHS, Education etc should be manned adequately for such big but also prosperous country, like Britain; 2) These services are being underfinanced, especially after the crisis of 2008; 3) The fact that there is more demand for these services, than supply, the shortage appears and people feel that it is due to immigration; 4) However, makes an argument Russel, if there was enough funding, there would have been enough of these services for everyone, so take the money from the big fat cats in the City. P.S. I think that, despite the valid points that Russell made, exponential immigration of 2000s would have made an average folk to feel the stretching and the unavailability of the services named above regardless of the amount of money made available for them. Britain will do great after Brexit!
@@romchiks -excellent points.. I agree -the debate on immigration is a lot more nuanced than "no borders-come one come all" from Brand or "keep everyone out" from Nigel- the problem with it is people don't speak just about numbers but bring the emotion of the Racial debate into it
@S MM -I'm more seeing the big picture - a lot of immigrants are unskilled and esp. if they arrive "illegally" (I know this is a disputed term) they often don't even speak English.Surely one of the goals of Brexit is that we can control who enters the U.K and thus can hopefully encourage those who's skills are needed,, otherwise it's just an open door - then why have any legal immigration rules at all- anyone from anywhere can come here for whatever reason they fancy - certainly very virtuous but not exactly practical... plus there is a serious environmental case that the UK is already way over-populated and that it should be no more than 20m to be sustainable.. mind you the whole planet is grossly over-populated so we're prob.screwed anyway
So the ones that are saying we should have unlimited immigration which will require us to build 200,000+ houses a year to house them, are the same ones saying we need to cut our carbon emissions to zero in 30 years time and also protect our wildlife.

LordPingas Most southern Europeans are and the proof is in the pudding: UK - a large, successful economy. World leaders in technology and culture. Italy? Spain? Greece? Bulgaria? Portugal? ... However, hanging out in pubs, I hear people's opinions and my sample shows a clear affinity for the unemployed to blame other peoples for their situation: their job is "stolen". Let me ask this: If someone comes all the way from the other side of Europe, he does not speak the local language, he does not have savings, he does not have a home and he does not have connections - if that person takes "your" job, doesn't it mean that you don't really want it in the first place? Another question: If I pay 20k GBP of tax in all it's forms and shapes but I don't get anything in return (our company exports products outside of the UK) - who benefits from this tax? (the answer is somewhere in question one) If house prices go up because of immigrants, who benefits? The immigrant who has no house or the local population = the vast majority of house owners. Brand rightly points out issues about austerity, tax fiddling etc. - just absolutely nothing to do with the question (immigration)
Because he's go no actual answer that he can back up with facts
Well, here's Russell's argument that I understood from this debate.
1) The services like NHS, Education etc should be manned adequately for such big but also prosperous country, like Britain;
2) These services are being underfinanced, especially after the crisis of 2008;
3) The fact that there is more demand for these services, than supply, the shortage appears and people feel that it is due to immigration;
4) However, makes an argument Russel, if there was enough funding, there would have been enough of these services for everyone, so take the money from the big fat cats in the City.
P.S. I think that, despite the valid points that Russell made, exponential immigration of 2000s would have made an average folk to feel the stretching and the unavailability of the services named above regardless of the amount of money made available for them.
Britain will do great after Brexit!
@@romchiks -excellent points.. I agree -the debate on immigration is a lot more nuanced than "no borders-come one come all" from Brand or "keep everyone out" from Nigel- the problem with it is people don't speak just about numbers but bring the emotion of the Racial debate into it
@S MM some may have done -this statistic is disputed- but a large majority of immigrants are in low skilled jobs paying little or no tax
So the ones that are saying we should have unlimited immigration which will require us to build 200,000+ houses a year to house them, are the same ones saying we need to cut our carbon emissions to zero in 30 years time and also protect our wildlife.

this is like watching a debate about the ethics of stem cell therapy for neurodegenerative diseases between a neurosurgeon and a plumber...
Manuel Kreuzberg no that’s not what I said, I just said not all opinions or analysis are of equal value. The fact Nigel understands trade, pushed for Brexit, and is a politician gives him some authority... not his wealth.
Here’s another great example... I’m American so I would wager that your opinion on this particular subject is actually of more value than mine because I have no say in what your country does, and it has extremely minimal effect on my life if any.

Farage - right about immigration, or at least they could spend on other improvements instead of WELFARE.
Brand - right about the root of the problem which is the BANKS
The difference however is that your country operates democratically and each banker, just like each builder only accounts for one single vote next national election. Make sure you vote for the populist right wing, Britain, whichever option you have. Labor and Tory are just left and right wing globalism. As a Bulgarian immigrant in the UK, I cannot stress strongly enough the inadequacy of Mr. Brand to present ANY logic or ANY value to the debtate whatsoever. Unfortunately (for me), Mr. Farage makes sense on many levels.
However, I would like to use the attention you have given me to remind you that a proper debator would eventually defeat Mr. Farage's arguments.
The truth is, that people like me: young, healthy, educated and hard working immigrants are a big part of what keeps the UK a growing world power. I work for a company that exports very high value products and my job is such that no British engineer wants to do. You kick me out, you lose the #20k per year that I pay in taxes, so that some UKIP voter could get pissed in a pub in 11AM, on a working day.
Todor Kolev I'm young, healthy, educated and hardworking, but I'm British. I guess that means I'm no longer entitled to "hard worker" status.
LordPingas Why would it? You put a hard day's work consistently for years over years? You use some of your free time to give your career that extra boost? If so, you are a hard-worker, regardless of your nationality.
I hope what I wrote previously did not imply that I consider only immigrants to be hard-workers. I do not mean that and I think it should take some subjective perception to derive this meaning.
Todor Kolev I know you weren't. I was just making a sarcastic nod to the whole cultural misconception that British people are lazy.
(the answer is somewhere in question one)
If house prices go up because of immigrants, who benefits? The immigrant who has no house or the local population = the vast majority of house owners.
And so on and so forth...
Todor Kolev We aren't growing m8 we're going down in the world index. So don't use that as valid point. We need to make our own rules. Vote UKIP
As hectic as this got, I think both sides had good arguments, minus the 1920s bank robber that started yelling lol

I think he was pretty clear? Redistribution of wealth. He has said this in most of his interviews and debates and is correct. @@maxwelljames3573 Immigration singlehandedly support the healthcare system?... You realise without immigration the healthcare system would be smaller, right? Poorer demographics also put strain on the healthcare system, spiking the cost per capita, and immigrants as a collective group are the poorest demographic in Britain.
Immigration is necessary to support an aging population, to network specialties in our workforce and it's also just nice to have multiculturalism, they add a lot to society. But immigration should be directly capped to match our GNI and birthrate.
This is something that should be done for all countries.
The issue with the UK is commonwealth visas. It's a direct result of Britain's colonial and imperial past that such a high influx of immigrants are coming, as they're coming from prioritised nations, nothing to do with the EU or refugees whatsoever.

Allowing his opposite to make a point.
Thomas Edgerley But that's what it all comes down to in the end, people with money have the power to make the lives of the poor better, but instead they blame immigrants for sucking the wealth out of our country. Look at countries like Denmark, the highest taxes in the world yet small businesses thrive, because government regulation prevents huge monopolies from exploiting workers for profit. The reality that no one wants to realise is that the rich don't give a shit about the poor; the born rich stay rich and the born poor generally stay poor. Our system works for the few, not the majority. Do you call that a Great British Democracy?
***** The born poor have great opportunities to become rich. The only people stopping a young kid from a council estate doing well in school, going to university and getting rich and the kids themselves and their parents. Is that not what fairness is, opportunities for all? Surely its less fair to artificially balance people's wealth in a way that throws money at people who haven't earned it?

james lloyd He isn't smart? What would you define as smart? Writing a book? Making films? Building a community following of millions of UA-cam? Or do you define smart as speaking in a posh accent and being mean to everybody.
No, I would define smart as having a higher than average intelligence.
There might be some correlation between youtube followers and intelligence but I'll leave you to apply the logic to that one.
Don't bother me with stupid comments like this again.
james lloyd What method are you applying to measure Russell's intelligence? The old dictionary technique you mentioned? Sounds revolutionary. No pun intended.
james lloyd If you need a dictionary to understand what he's saying then I suggest the problem is you have a low intellect and not that he uses big words.
You think I have sat there deciphering what he says with a dictionary? It was a suggestion to people like you as it might open up your eyes to how much of a moron he is. I know enough of the words he uses to know he uses them out of context which means neither he nor his followers understand them. He works on the principle of "bullshit baffles brains" and its working like a charm.
If you believe he's a smart guy then I feel sorry for you. Outside of his little cult following he's ridiculed the world over.
You know he's in business with the people he claims to detest right? Companies house will tell you all you need to know. I'll even give you a reg number of one of his companies to get you started - 06843671. If you understand company structure you will see he is quite legally reducing his tax liability. Nothing wrong with that but it does make him an almighty hypocrite. Have a look and come back to me when you realise your idol is a phoney. It might take a while as he has fingers in many pies besides this one. As a percentage of income, I pay more tax than he does. Forgive me for thinking that the guy is a complete tosspot.
