I have a suggestion for you. I do this same technique with my paper mache vases , but when I want to use in vase of glass, I use a mix of white glue and water same ratio, then I lay toilet paper sheets with the glue. They stick very strongly and get very hard when dry it., then any kind of texture you add will stick very well.

Great job. I too have used joint compound, but, I do think that plaster would hold up better if you were going to set them outside in the elements. That being said, I would use a good sealer over them if I were to put them outside. Joint compound does not dry as fast, but, I think too, that plaster would be more durable. Thanks for sharing.

Doing this with joint compound or spackling is so much easier than your method. Both of these don't dry out so fast and I think they make a more realistic looking vase. Not to mention, much more water resistant.

i have a question. Does it crack when dries? because when plaster dries it usually shrink a little bit. In my experience, when you plaster on a hard surface(like glass jar or bottle) that makes some crack when it completely dies.

Love the video. Great idea. BTW, if you want to retard the setup time of your plaster, just add a little bit of baking powder. Blood works also but... who wants to do that? Conversely, if you want to speed up the setup time, just add a little salt. However, be careful doing that as salt also weakens the plaster. Not sure that matters for this application, though. Also, you might want to invest in some rubber bowls and metal plaster spatulas for future projects. It makes mixing so much easier.
