  • Installation video of my patent pending kit that repairs the leaky dipstick adapter on ford powerstroke 7.3 motors. This kit can be installed in 1-2 hours with basic hand tools and you do NOT have to remove the pan. No welding required. No parts left inside oil pan. 73dipstick.com for where to buy.

    This is definitely one of the best kits I’ve seen and experienced that fixes the common oil dipstick flange leak on the side of the oil pan. Excellent video and very detailed description on how to do it. Great job!!! I rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    I’m so glad my local Napa told me about this. Such a great solution to a major problem. After changing the internal o ring twice and it not lasting, I almost bought the $300 option. But I just couldn’t bring myself to let the internal part lay in the pan loose. This was so easy to install and has performed perfectly!! No more leaks!!

    Just did this today with your kit, this is the NUMBER ONE option hands down. I'm lucky I called my local Napa Auto and they told me they carry it otherwise I wouldn't have known about this option and would have went with the other style that costs 3x as much and makes you drop the inner piece inside the pan. This is a simple and effective fix! Thanks!

    okay let's think about this people I was just about to buy this kit too. The original seal was an o-ring on the inside, when this worked it would not allow any oil past the o-ring. once the warped o-ring no longer functions the oil creeps in between the hole and the threads of the fitting. now, time to really think about this, this kit puts a gasket around the hole. oil is still able to get in between the hole and the threads, theoretically. The only thing stopping us is the nut you tighten over the large washer which also does not have any sort of gasket. maybe the only reason this might work is if you use the gasket sealant on the threads of the fitting. like I said I was going to buy this but then thought about it. still it's a better option than any other one I've seen without pulling the engine. but for $90 I'm going to try to use just black RTV sealant and either find or make a large washer first.

    • @73dipstick
      @73dipstick  3 роки тому

      The oil seal is the RTV. The external gasket is there tho force the sealer into the hole and threads. The washer keeps the nut from tearing the gasket. RTV can only hold up to certain thickness. That is why the gasket is there. It presses the sealant into a thin film and forces it where it needs to go.

    • @psi3000
      @psi3000 3 роки тому +1

      @@73dipstick you might be correct however the way that this person installs it shows a very thin film of our TV sealant on there I don't believe this is enough to squeeze into that hole. I'm not saying you're wrong I'm saying in this instance it looks like it's not enough I could be wrong about this too though.

    • @73dipstick
      @73dipstick  3 роки тому +2

      Richard, you are correct. I did not do a good enough job of explaining everything in this video. I edited down the footage to try to keep it to a length people would watch. I can tell you that out of the thousands of kits installed I have had less than 1% who have had issues. And I have stood behind all who have reached out. I’m only trying to get people a cost effective solution to this common problem. I truly only want to help those who don’t want to drop the inner part inside the oil pan and pay $300 for the billet option. Which by the way works great. It’s just 3 times as much money

    I've also seen vice grips used in place of the coat hanger tool. Good Stuff, I'll definately be doing this if I get a 7.3 bus

    • @73dipstick
      @73dipstick  3 роки тому +3

      There are several different ways I’ve seen people hold the inner part. Vise grips have a chance of scratching the inside of the tube hole. That can hurt the tube o ring when you put the dipstick tube back in. Just be careful no matter what method you choose.

    I don't work on 7.3l Ford motors but if I did this tool would be priceless. No way I'd want to pull the truck apart literally to fish out a dipstick piece

  • @maingun07
    @maingun07 3 роки тому

    I need my truck and because of unexpected family business I'm two weeks behind schedule. Just before I was about to make a 400 mile trip to pick up a new bed to replace the rusty, bent up chunk of swiss cheese that's current residing on the back of my F350, the dipstick tube flange decided that now was a good time to let go. It had been seeping and I had bought a kit from Diesel O Rings a few months back. This afternoon I said a few expletives (or prayed if you want to call it that, most of the same words) and got to work.
    The kit says that if the flange is bent, to not use the o ring and instead fill the groove with Permatex Ultra Black. Well, ain't nothin' easy on this truck and it had the classic warp to it. But how in great gazongas am I supposed to squirt RTV all the way around that flange? Top and sides are easy enough, but there ain't no way I can get to the bottom of the flange no matter how I turn it. If I start squirting RTV willy nilly in there, I afraid some of that is going to come loose and get sucked into somewhere it shouldn't. Then I'll be doing a tear down and like I said, I need my truck up and running, not up on a lift.
    I just ordered one of your kits from Amazon. Had to pay a little extra for two day shipping, but I should have it Thursday. If All Goes According To Plan (yeah, right), I should have the truck back on the road by this weekend. If it holds, I'll be sure to leave a positive review. I rarely leave a negative review unless something is complete garbage. Or politicians. Same difference. If it doesn't, this looks like it will be the easiest to scrap off and start over.
    This product looks fairly decent and I expect good results, but the Universe? The Universe hates me. I just know that the weather is going to turn to crap, or I'll get called away for some emergency, or I catch the coof coof, or a rattlesnake that's late turning in for the winter will decide that under my truck is a good spot for a nap, or (god forbid) I'll get elected Grand Poobah of the Middle Finger and they won't take a F--- Off for an answer. My money's on a combination of weather and the rattlesnake.

      I’ll tell you why I disliked it. Quality control on the machining of the threads on the new retaining nut is lacking. I wasted nearly two hours patiently trying to get the new nut to thread. I even tried flipping sides as well. About two turns in, the nut would pop off. And after all that time, my luck finally ended and the .40 cal bore brush I was using had sufficiently compressed enough that the dipstick interface finally slipped off and fell to the bottom of the pan.
      Even if I had managed to successfully get the nut started, after all that time, the RTV surely would have mis-set resulting in a bad seal.
      In the post-mortem, inspection of the new nut shows its threading is poor. This is unacceptable given how much you pay for such a minimally expensive part.
      So I’m left with not much other choice than to go to that diesel site to buy the aluminum adapter instead.

    Great idea - but - flawed. the o ring stops oil from getting out of the pan, this product simply tensions a big washer onto the pan, doesn't restrict the flow of oil at all - unless you get crazy with the RTV stuff and just goob it all over the place, then you have one giant man made washer.

    • @73dipstick
      @73dipstick  2 роки тому

      The gaskets job is to push the RTV into the gap between the adapter and the pan. Keeping the silicone within its working limits. Silicone in and of itself will peel off. It also has a maximum working thickness. The use and design of the patented gasket in the kit allows for deformities in the pan so as not to exceed maximum thickness of the silicone. The washer is included in the kit so you don’t tear the gasket when the nut is tightened. I appreciate your comment, however the o ring being inside the pan and exposed to oil is what causes the failure. O rings swell over time with oil saturation. This deforms the internal part and allows more oil to reach subsequent o rings. Ultra black does not swell with oil. So it seals the gap as well as protects the gasket.

      @@73dipstick but rtv is what will keep the oil coming out - not the gasket as it mounts flush to the pan. Rtv should just be caked all over the dip stick receiver so the mounting nut seals around and into the threads. I applied rtv to the gasket as your instructions show but it still leaks. Slowed it down quite a bit but still leaks. I understand the failure point of the gasket. I’m gonna have to pull mine again as it is dripping good still and rtv that male part coming out of the pan spit can seal the outside...

If you put enough silicone on the gasket towards the center hole and the pan and adapter are completely clean, oil free, and dry…the silicone will push into the gap between the pan and adapter sealing it up! I’ve done dozens of them. I did have one start weeping early on in testing. I believe it was because there was still oil residue on the internal part when I put it together. When international redesigned the 7.3 to a HUEI motor the dipstick could not be machined into the block anymore. So they came up with the oil pan adapter. Unfortunately, the adapter seal fails overtime. The factory repair is to pull the pan and replace the adapter. Unfortunately in the Ford vehicles the motor has to be removed in order to replace the pan correctly. That is why I developed this kit to be installed on the vehicle.
