  • Okay hopefully your just checking videos out and don't need this info. I don't have any good news to give you on saving it "properly" without removing the oil pan. But at least now you know what you're up against.

    There are several videos out there showing how to repair this problem without pulling the pan. One type of repair uses a it with new o-rings, gasket and outer flange(about $50.00 and 3 hours labor), another type of repair uses a special outer billet flange from Strictly Diesel that is relatively easy to install($300.00 and 2 hours labor).
    From all I have read or learned, it is a very labor intensive process to pull the pan. For one, you have to loosen all of the cab mounting mounting bolts, lift the cab, block the cab up and then loosen the the motor mounts and jack the engine up. This alone will take several hours and untold little surprises along the way. Then you have to pull the pan, clean the mating surfaces and then reinstall a new pan gasket when reassembling. Why go through this hassle when you can do the repair with far less time and effort. You as a certified diesel mechanic with a commercial shop and equipment, how long does it take you to pull the pan and I mean the whole job of lifting the cab and engine. What would you charge for such a job, I heard Ford dealerships charge about $3,000.00 for a job like this.

    Only pull the turbo on vans. Pull the trans on both. Fan shroud and rear adapter plate. Use three pole jacks. One on the crank pulley and each ear on back of the engine. Or of course pull the engine. Some guys like that way better.

    Put a hanger and hook the end. Dbl hanger for strength.

    you dont have to pull the pan to change the oring, you can pull the dipstick and grab the adapter with needle nose vise grips, then feed out the oring and feed in yhw new one

    Hope you guys know that its possible to replace the O-Ring WITHOUT removing the oil pan! check out: www.ford-trucks.com/forums/785403-dipstick-oil-pan-leak-can-be-fixed.html
    Just be sure you have something in the tube or clamped to it before you remove the nut (IE shotgun wire brush or similar)

    That could work as long as its not distorted. You should also let them know to lower the oil level if you're gong to try it. Or just silicone it like the other guy mentioned if its too far gone.

    I really like your explanation of this leak. I was wondering if you still have the failed inner part you might want to part with? I'm willing to pay for it. I have a repair kit available for this failure that is patent pending and would love to find a failed part for comparison. I have the install video on my channel and would like to show the failed part in another video.

    WOW Ron I am very impressed of how well a technician you are. I enjoy all of your videos. What do you have to say to someone who is interested in getting into the field?

      Better have the tube stuck in and the clip bolted on to get the angle of the tube just right!

    Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos, a little off topic but I have a 6.0 with diesel mixing with oil in large quantities. My mechanic is suggesting it is the heads but I have doubts about that as I think it would be related to injectors. Your valued opinion would be much appreciated.

  • @curtissharris8914
    @curtissharris8914 6 років тому +1

    My mechanic fixed this by putting jb weld around both the inside and outside. No leak now. Never need to remove it ever anyway so why go to all that trouble to replace it.

    Next time you Get the chance, could you do a video on the Process to Remove the Oil Pan without Pulling the Engine?
    I Did not know it was Possible to remove the oil pan without removing the entire engine...

    • @dustinwoodyard3524
      @dustinwoodyard3524 4 роки тому +1

      USSNAFU they tell you you have to because there’s no gasket on the pan and the motor needs to sit upside down so the rtv won’t be contaminated with oil running down the block

    Boy if only I had seen this first. I could not get parts from the Ford dealer in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The parts guy acted like Ford never used a 7.3L. I had to remove the starter and the dip stick tube about 5 times before I got an oring that would seal at all. Now it is leaking again, probably because it was the wrong type of matereal. What is the part number of the correct oring and where can I get one?
    Also, how do I get to the video where you talk about the broken air filter housing? The engine backfired and exploded the filter housing. Don't ask, it was starting hard and I used some gasoline to help it get going. Last time I tried that it backfired, caught the rag on fire and I had a lot of fun smothering the flames in front of everyone driving by. No, I did not use ether! However, I later heard some guys say WD-40 wouldn't hurt a 7.3L

      You should have prayed to Jebus.
      Jebus could have magically fixed your Ford.

    • @DavidParker-cf2km
      @DavidParker-cf2km 9 років тому +1

      Really? How does that happen? odinata such a profound observation from an atheist surprises me! All my life I have been working because God said for Christians to work with their hands so that they may have to give to the poor and needy in the church. And here you say, in you vast wisdom, that all I have to do is pray to Jebus! Amazing! However, Jesus said to pray to the Father in his name, so I'll stick with that.
      Now if I was an evolutionist I would expect that waiting long enough will cause a new truck to pop into existence! Simple isn't it?
      Sincerely,
      David Parker

      It was your idea odinata. Time is evolution's answer to everything, just wait long enough and everything will just pop into existence.

      It wasn't my idea, hick.
      You are the one who decided that magic is real.

    I have a diesel 96 f350 and it throws oil through the tube where it inserts the dipstick to check the oil level. It thinks that replacing that part will solve the problem.
