It's so sad that Gaelic is not thought at schools in Ireland instead of English (I think?), since it's such a beautiful language and once widespread in Europe, one of the oldest languages still in existence. It's like us Norwegians, speaking a form of Danish, after being in a "union" with Denmark for centuries, and nobody even contemplate any alternative. At least the still speak Norse in Iceland and the Western Isles.

Patrick Pearse for example had his own school and struggled a lot with funding to keep it going, and was one of these "enthusiasts" that gave his life for his country and it's future that now belong no longer to the British Empire. Personally I've enjoyed greatly to read old Irish folk tales, written down by W. B. Yeats and my favorite poem, along "Alone" by E. A. Poe, is "The Stolen Child". ua-cam.com/video/RPtBkDn5Yjo/v-deo.html and it was strange to see how similar many were to old Norse tales, and in Iceland these tales are still so strong that in some places they do not build, because it's believed to be inhabited by beings similar to faires.
