12!!??? 12 quid!? I'll stick with my London Red (with frog) thanks! 😉 Just kidding! That's bloomin lovely! Nice design, nice bit of sapele and nicely made. 😁👍
I modified an existing Caldwell Tripod Mount, using a piece of Kitchen Cutting Board cut to the right dimensions and glued shammy leather over it, had to also add modifications to the side clamps, to conform with the NSRA Rules. Just remember if you construct your own bespoke bench to conform to you bodily dimensions (I did), and you elect to glue Yoga mat to the bench surface to make you elbows comfortable, you can't use pointed support points under the front rest, as the Yoga mat would assist your locating the front rest on the bench. I've seen people use Hockey Pucks, but I reversed the adjusters so the points are at the top of the front rest. Also seen people fit a guide line to their bench surface, to comply with the rule regarding ensuring the front receiver is behind the firing line at the firing point. I've actually moved on to also shooting under WBSF Rules, which allows competing in UKBRA and BenchrestUK events, currently focussing on UKBRA Summer 100 yard & Winter 600 yard, but also saving my pennies to purchase a rifle for Summer 1000 yard. Have to admit I have the wrong Air Rifle (HFT) for NSRA Benchrest, so whilst performing poorly in 25 yards Air, and for some weird reason 25 yard .22lr, I'm doing much better at 50m & 100 yard .22lr under NSRA and WBSF rules. I have two stocks for my Anschutz 1413, one for NSRA, one for WBSF, so with two bolts I can swap. For 600 yards I'm using a Tikka T3x TAC A1 in .308, and plan to get another one for 1000 yards in 6.5 Creedmoor, The reason for not using the .308 for both is BC, and the fact that the Electronic Targets need a round to arrive supersonic for it to register a hit, and I'm not sure the .308 will always arrive supersonic at 1000 yards. The other issue is barrel wear, for Target Shooting a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel is considered inaccurate beyond 2500 rounds, for .308 the same consideration doesn't occur until beyond 8000 to 10000 rounds. I think my poor performance at 25 yard Air has caused me to deteriorate at 25 yards due to frustration. Plan to get a proper Target Air Rifle.
Excellent episode this one just shows what u can do with out spending a fortune and to be honest I'd rather have what you have just made as it serves the purpose and is in regs cheers Tilly 😂👍👍
All good stuff Mr Tilly. For bench rest shooting you need to do a thermal drop off test for you air cylinder and barrel. A Draper Infra Red Thermometer from Toolstation costs just under £40 and is used to check air cylinder, action and barrel temperature. My 2 JTS's shots are within millimeters of accuracy from 12-19 Deg C. From 8 Deg C down the pellets drop in a temperature gradient something tragic. Above 19 Deg C the regulator can handle but the unchoked barrel goes glitchy in the vertical. This year on the hottest day the temperature I recorded for the full rifle was 28.5 Deg C and I had a better chance of hitting the target by throwing my gun at it. And if you think that's bad, just wait till you get into FAC level air rifles. And even worse is .22lr target and bore cooling (you have to fire a few shots to heat the barrel for optimum accuracy and time your shots before the barrel cools or heats up too much). Being OCD helps but its all better than watching Netflix. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Hi Phil, it's just a good excuse to go play in the shed on a wet and windy afternoon 😆 Hopefully get a proper test run on some comp cards this coming week. I'm surprised how sturdy it is,given the relative lack of weight. It should definitely be a good starting point
Morning TG, rest has come out real nice. Not heard of those Japanese drill bit before, they do seem to have some quite innovative tools available over there.
Hi mate, yeah theres some really cool stuff coming out of Japan..these are an auger type bit but won't self feed so are awesome in grainy woods and leave beautiful holes. I'm slowly swapping over to them for a number of my builds. Importantly though the Japanese hex shank isn't the same as a European 1/4 drive. The notch is in a different position 😉
The accessory rail is available at your better woodworkers stores or online. IF you're like me and sure that you have one someplace but can't find it, you can use aluminum flat bar stock instead. I had 1inch by 1/16 inch stock on hand that I used for a wood guide project for the table saw. Just make a dado 9/16" wide and 1/2" deep and then countersink the bar stock into the wood and screw it down. Made a few like this for my crosscut sled for my saw and miter saw.
very inspiring👍 . It proves you don't need to spend big buks 😄. I was thinking, if you could very slightly crush the insert to work as a exhaust manifold nuts do, those are very slightly warped to have build in friction. Or something like a nyloc nut???
That's a good shout mate, It feels mega with a bit of PTFE tape on but won't last. Hopefully the stainless locking nuts arrive soon. I'll run a full comp detail Tuesday night and see how she runs. Hopefully I can clear a card very soon 😎
Off subject a little bit..JTS DEAD CENTER pellets are finally in stock in .177 At Ramsbottoms. Wadcutters in 7.87gn , DOMED Diablos in 8.7gn and heavies in 10.4gn.. The pellets in. 22 have been a revelation. Can you try out these. .177s?
You could mate, but the vast majority of rifles don't have undersides/stocks perpendicular to the action blocks ,so the levels would be best sited on the rifle just for ease of setup 😉
Nice vid thanx mate. Why does the top piece need to be on a sliding rail? do you need to move it? if not just fix it to the base without a rail, or maybe I'm missing summit.... cheers tho... 8-)
I've put the rail in mate so I can chop and change the top blocks with ease, I can have a specific height for each rifle or if I want to add in a height adjuster,it can go onto the rail 😉
@@tillysgunstocks so for those of us with dubious routing skills we could bolt the top block to the bottom using the same counter sunk bolts as the feet. The wife may be sacrificing a chopping board to the cause!

A very good episode. Just wish I had your skills and the required gear to do things like this. Really useful for those that have 👍
Time to get a shed mate😉
I just love messing about with things, it's a bit of a problem I have🙄 can't leave anything alone 😆

I have a large shed Timmy but….it’s full of garden gear and a fair sized ride on mower 🤣🤣🤣

Another great project, amazing what can be produced for next to no cost, I've similar at home myself using threaded bath support feet

Great bit of work.
Cheers mate, so far it has exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to try it,In full competition now..
Thank You very much for the great videos Good Sir!
Thanks mate, it was a fun project and I'm looking forward to starting a few competitions with it
@@tillysgunstocks Good Luck! Thank You for teaching us :D.

Great video. What type of wood did you use please ?
It's made from sapele, cheap and very durable. I'm absolutely sure it'll do exactly as I need going forward
Very nice. Thankyou for sharing, What about making a work gun vise 😊
I've noted that down mate😉 next few builds will be more custom targets but maybe once the winter sets in,I'll do a cleaning/service station
