- I created the coolest ant terrarium ever, a designed I've never before tried but always wanted to, and with the arrival of my newest ant colony made for the perfect opportunity to try. They are a dream specie and the home I built for them was a dream terrarium build. Hope you enjoy this week's episode and our brand new fledgling ant colony. All hail the Titanic Empress! Definitely a legendary battle story to be passed down the generations, inspiring little warriors in her glorious wake. The heroic ant who battled a giant alone for 'days' on end and returned victorious with the giants head for her queen!

I think you should name these ants the marauding pirates mainly because of their aggressiveness and how they organize their food collection, almost as it they were looking for gold.

I never thought of this, but it does make sense, as like the brutality of these ants while on the hunt (they got the name Marauder Ants and Asian Army Ants because of their brutality) resembles the brutality of pirates while on the look for treasure, as for pirates if the leader of the empire's ship decides to fight and then loses the pirates will brutality torture until they die (or thi die if your a rhyming poet)

The colony could be called The Olympians (not my idea, but a cool one wanted to repeat it for visibility) or The Hightowers, because the nest entrance is a tower and is a fun reference to House of the Dragon, and ants are as mighty as dragons in the antiverse.

For a name, I'm thinking "The Gigantes" (ji gan tees). The Gigantes are also children of Gaia, like the Titans, so I think it's appropriate.

This is SUCH a cool tank setup idea. I love that it combines the fun aesthetic stuff of having a terrarium but keeps the test tube setup as well so we can still see them and make sure they're doing okay. Best of both worlds! I can't wait to see all the cool stuff the future in the ant house will bring to the AC family!

I loved the idea of placing the test tube in a hole in the outworld tank where we can still see them in the test tube nesting, but also out foraging! It’s so simple yet so brilliant!

Do you think once they get bigger, you’ll get a bigger container with the same size opening to replace the test tube location (which sounds cool in my head) or move them into the setup or altogether? (I know this is probably a couple months from now but I’m randomly curious 😂)

I have been feeding a tiny colony of tiny ant's living under one of my patio stones. Been giving them sugar and bread crumbs and banana. They are thriving 🐜
in honor of the species unusual behavioral characteristic and excellent setup for showcasing it, i propose naming the colony the trail-blazers.
Will you be adding bioactive cocoa peat to the tower for them to expand their nest? Also, are you going to put some silicone in the gap, under the tank, where the tube is? It looks like a good escape route

As another commenter said, we should name them "The Olympians", which were the ones who replaced the "Titans" in Greek Mythology
What an awesome set up, and so quickly from a plain test tube! I think it's an excellent idea as I wouldn't want to be handling them in a few months time lol!
As for a name, I decided to look up synonyms for "marauder", and one unusual one jumped out at me. The Moss-Troopers! They're described as marauders and plunderers, originally operating in the bogs between Scotland and England. My initial thoughts had been along the lines of pirates, privateers, buccaneers and even Vikings. Considering that Vikings would also have been marauding and plundering in that region, they would have been much like the Moss-Troopers!
Also, given that you create "alien" worlds, and Star Wars is continuing to be extremely popular, the names Moss Eisley (I hope I've spelled that correctly) and Storm Troopers jumped out at me on seeing Moss-Troopers on the page. So, coincidence? Meant to be? Intervention from the Force? 😉

I know you've gone all high-tech in the Ant Rooms, but I did have a little idea for you for when it's the appropriate time. During nuptial flights, would it be possible for you to install movement-triggered night cameras in a few places? That way we can see what's going on outside (which will also guide you with ideas for future colonies), and maybe one or two indoors to see how your own colonies are reacting when their own species is sending out its own young adults. Could you put some sort of tubing between the terraria and the windows? That way there could be an "escape route" for your ants & termites and perhaps a few colony founders from outside if you want them? Don't mind me, I'm just writing as I think lol.
Anyway, good luck with the new colony and I hope you like the name!

If you're asking a name of that new Asian Marauder Ant colony, my suggestive name is either The Plunder Giants (This idea came from the synonym of the word "Marauder". Also because the soldier ants are giants even the small workers are also considered to be giants as well) or The Revolutionary Raiders (This idea inspired me from the Revolutionary Army in One Piece while Raiders seem to be suitable).
What would happen if the colony grew too big for their test tube?🧐
