Colony could be called "The Deck", and the terrarium could be referred as "The Casino"
I can't believe its been a couple YEARS since y'all discovered this species. It feels like yesterday!
im actually keeping meranoplus bicolor and I’m going to give you some tips. DO NOT feed until her 3rd worker has arrived because, mould will build up in their test tube and will make the brood vulnerable. once the 3rd worker’s exoskeleton has hardened, start off with a drop of honey or beetle juice on an aluminium foil so it’s easier to remove. If they started to reject it, means they need protein. Start off with tiny mealworms. Once they start growing more workers, give 2-3 baby mealworms make sure it’s gut spilled and chopped up. Once they have 10-15 workers, you can start giving them cricket legs and medium sized mealworm. This is just before their formicarium, hope this helps!
Thanks for the tip
I remember the discoveries you have made with your pets: new mites on Ants, new Ants, new behaviors. I am glad that you have allowed us a window as viewers to that part of your life.

I loved how the queen held her first egg, like 'Wow, I made this. I can't believe it.' As for her name maybe Queen Felicity, as in Latin it means 'Good fortune, happy' And I can see her being a good queen. Or maybe Queen Esme, as in French it means 'Beloved'. But anyway, I hope that she's fertilized and healthy, as she seems like she'd make a perfect new ant queen on this channel, so I hope she turns out good and can start her own colony someday!
AWWW! SHE'S SO CUTE HOLDING HER FIRST EGG!! I hope she's a fertilized and healthy queen! Keep making history and the ant love! :D
Maybe we could call her "Queen Cora" since the name "Cora" is a female name that means "heart" for her unique shape and is a French name meaning "beloved" since she is very precious to all ant keepers?
Queen heart
I like it. "Queen Cora" 😊

@@Totellynetasknwaker-qb6vygirl what
The newer unknowns could be named glass ants or the crystal colony since you can see through the queen's gastor 😊
The etiquette for naming things is usually the one who finds it also names it. That person is usually also the one that confirms the ID as it's mostly scientists who do this.
Seeing as how in your case this role is filled by two people I think it's only fair that you both should agree on a name.
The fact that you’re making genuine scientific progress here honestly just blows my mind. You’re like a voyager of old it’s really incredible man
The brand new ant colony could be the “bronze behemoths” due to their large size and dark brown and golden hues

Awesome discoveries! I think a name for the ants you can see through their gastors should be Amber ants, because it's like looking through a piece of amber to see what's inside it.
Yea
Amber Hearts?
This whole series about Species 555 has been so thrilling. It is awesome to even just watch. I love that my support for your channel is helping broaden the horizons of myrmecology.
The Chromatogaster discovery blew my mind. If this is a fully previously undiscovered species of Ant it would be so awesome to even just watch.
my name suggestion for the new queen would be "Queen Valentine"

It has been such an amazing journey watching your page grow and explore!
It’s crazy to think that this journey is taking two years to finally get a queen. I remember way back in Covid when you found the species and I was super excited. It’s awesome to finally see them on the channel again. The crazy discoveries that you make just in your backyard is amazing to wach. Ant love forever❤❤❤
She is "The Queen of Hearts"❤
and possibly the other queen he found could be "The Queen of Spades" since her gaster is pointier
That's awesome man. You're on the science radar. Keep up the great work. Your hobby is immensely interesting. I've had a hobby regarding fungi and learned more than I imagined about that field. I didn't pursue it for long though. I hope one day I can go back to that. But the way you carefully craft your terrariums and the knowledge you exhibit when literally fabricating ecosystems inside glass boxes is amazing. Of course you would have a part in the naming of a species you helped discover. I'm sure there are guidelines, so they can't be called Yellowus Poopicus, but of course you will have a part in the naming.
That 'oh yeah' at the end made me EXPLODE because i wanted to know what it would look like, so i hope you upload a video soon Antscanada!
This man went from making videos about ants to making huge break throughs like a potential new species
My queen ant I caught last week laid eggs! Thanks so much for sharing the knowledge and resources of ant keeping with the world! My childhood dream of having a blooming ant colony may finally come true this year!!!

Congrats! Hope your colony flourishes and continues to grow! Ant Love Forever! ❤️🐜
Love the vid and the support your giving to those ant people who study ants
they genuinely ARE really cute compared to other ant species. new favorite!
I would suggest the name "Red Victoria" for the queen. Her gasture is red and heart shaped, and the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland is believed to have been representative of Queen Victoria. Also it embodies her majesty as a newly discovered and unique queen.
Red Victoria it should be for real
That’s awesome I like it
Didn't that bich bathe in virgin blood?
yeahhh❤
cant imagine how incredibly exciting it must've been to find this queen, such a privilege and honour to help learn about this species.
They are badass. The spikes give them the look of medieval super villains.
I dunno how i stumbled to this channel, but I've watched 3 episodes and I'm hooked! Awesome content and looking forward to more content and stories!
Its just so unique how the "555" queen has grooves for antennae on the sides of her head, I think you can see this best at 4:12. I've never noticed this about any ant before.
Congrats on your new queen ant!
Name suggestion for ant queen 555: The Quintarch, with her colony being the Quintarchy.
I just think it'd be neat to incorporate the number 5 into their names!
The fact that she is lacking her wings is a very good sign of her being a mated queen.
Hey AntsCanada! I just wanted to say something before I forget.
Since you're keeping invasive species of ants, I think it's important to consider keeping them in closed set ups. I think that preventing virgin queens and males from flying out of the set up and breeding with other colonies would be vital to making sure new colonies of these invasive species cannot form. At the same time, I also think that native species should be kept in "open" (I.E. no lid/roof) set ups to allow their mating flights to go smoothly and spring up more native colonies in your local area. I know it seems like a no brainer and that you've probably considered this, but I just wanted to leave a comment with the notion just in case it slipped your mind.
As for a name, I really like the idea of naming the Meranoplus Bicolor queen Queen Valentine. Maybe the colony can be named the Heart Breakers for fun!
Valentina maybe? 😅
He's made comments regarding keeping non native ants and he does not promote it, at least in terms of sourcing a non native ant species for a colony that is located outside of the range of that species. Obviously, not all of what he keeps are native, but I think he finds exception with those because he collected them in the same range where he is housing them. They may be an invasive species, but they are an invasive species that has already become established within that area. He's not bringing in new species or individuals collected from a different ecosystem to bring into a a new ecosystem. Hopefully that makes some sense. I'm not a scientist but do I have the vocabulary of one.
NO WAY NO WAY! Dude I just got my GF who hates bug and insects I’m general. She’s loving your yellow crazy ant series. However she thinks every Ant is a “crazy ant” while I’m her defense they are all crazy lol. Thank you for the vids! We look forward to see so much more!
For a name, maybe Draco Reginae:Latin for Dragon Queen! She just gives off that vibe.
She is so sweet and I love her too much and she just doesn’t know what she’s doing she’s just trying not to get too much bites she’s so cute!
How about you name the queen, the Elusive Empress? This is because her species is very.... well elusive! And If they become a colony, the Elusive Empire would be great due to the alliteration!
Edit:I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure whoever comes up with a scientific name for a living, or extinct animal is the animals correct name, give or take a few steps
I like that, the Elusive Empress. It fits.

I love the stray ants running around on the table!
Her name would be scarlet witch! Her workers have the cool horn shape and the perfect red/black color.
Just outright ask him if you can name the species. It's perfectly fine and it is usually standard practice that the collector/discoverer gets to name the species. If he publishes it, he will get forever credit anyway in the "authority" byline as the original publisher of the taxon.
It’s not an unknown species… it had already been previously discovered. Just not in HIS country. @2:28 on… and again at 6:22
@@Butterfly-mt5ml watch a bit later into the video honey, he mentions a different ant later on :) its still not confirmed to be completely new but we dont recognize it anywhere else ^^
@@decaf-nosebleed I seen that too, “honey.” But she was telling him to outright ask him… probably should wait to see what comes of it first, dontcha think?!
“We” don’t? Are you searching too? ^^
@@Butterfly-mt5ml sorry if my tone was a little off, i speak like that to everyone and didnt really notice, not trying to be mean or anything 😅just pointing out something you mightve missed in good faith. im not searching, the pronoun "we" was more used to speak about humanity as a whole rather than me specifically. Also, pointing that specific issue out is a common logical fallacy where you point out one issue in an argument rather than considering the argument as a whole. Just a friendly reminder that AC was asking the community what the standard ettiquiete for the naming of new species and this was just one response for it. i personally think it wouldnt hurt to ask to know ahead of time, OP seems to know what they're talking about too so 🤷
@@Butterfly-mt5ml You know, you don't have to pitch a little fit just because you didn't realize what ant OP was referring to
Mikey, your contributions to science are amazing. And I am positive that you are inspiring others to make scientific discoveries through the hobby.
Naming a new species after yourself has to be one of the greatest achievements of an ant enthusiast such as yourself.
A name suggestion for our queen could be CUPID QUEEN,
devired from the mythical character representing love in many ways:
-OUR LOVE FOR THIS QUEEN
- CUPID used an heart-shaped arrow ( reference for the queen's heart - modeled gaster )
Another name suggestion could be QUEEN APHRODITE , for her beauty.
Considering the rarity and uniqueness of the situation these ants should be treated as ROYALTY.
The gaster and opening to the hive are all heart shaped this Queen has already named herself ❤
They need the best of everything to survive.
I think she is definitely the"Queen of Hearts" Who was Mary Tudor..
Queen = Queen of Hearts nickname = Mary
Colony = Consorts = Ladies in Waiting to the Queen
Terrarium = House of Tudor
So bear with me for a second. In Star Trek, Borg species 532 is the Turei. A tunnel dwelling alien species. I think it would be really fun to name the colony that and go for an alien-esque terrarium.
idk
Imagine jumping the fence to rob this guy's house. His backyard is litterally a minefield
I like Cupid due to the heart shaped gaster reminding me of Valentine’s Day.
This is so exciting! You should invite Dr General to visit your home. I'm sure he'd be thoroughly fixated on your pet ants as well as the garden ones.
Good luck with the new species. From my understanding, the person who finds a new species gets to name it. A scientist will normally give the first name - its genus, then they get the (sub)species name either from the finder or they name it after the finder.
I think the first ant should be the Queen of Hearts. What else could she be? ;)
Actually, Dr. General has been here but a couple years back while the Ant House was still under construction. He needed to sample some fire ant colonies for his studies. I will surely invite him here now!
Hunchback
Heh not quite. I'll explain what "naming" really entails in taxonomy: The specific name (the second part of the scientific name) is usually the only name that matters when it comes to new species. And the scientist(s) (i.e. "authors") have full control over it.
There are rules to follow in the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN), e.g. the name must not be identical to another older name, the name must be published properly (with proper diagnosis and the holotypes deposited in a collection), it must be published in a peer-reviewed journal or book, etc. The usual red tape. Other than that, what they write on the paper is what its name will be. They have full control.
However, it is standard practice and polite to let the collector (the person that alerted them to the new species) be the one to name the species. It's not a big deal to the authors since their actual names will forever be attached to that species anyway, regardless of what the specific name will be.
For example, the full scientific name of the first ant featured in this video is: _Meranoplus bicolor_ (Guérin-Méneville, 1844)
Guérin-Méneville refers to Félix Édouard Guérin-Méneville, a French entomologist who first described this species in an 1844 paper and gave it the name "bicolor" (lit. "two colors"). His name is in parentheses because he originally described the species as _Cryptocerus bicolor,_ but other scientists have since moved the species to its current genus.
Some authors will ignore a naming request and name it themselves. But no one likes them. A notable example is Sir Richard Owen who was notorious for stealing and naming the discoveries of others.
*With regards to the genus and subspecies name:*
The generic name is usually not something you pick. Most genera are already discovered, so authors just need to find the correct one to classify the new species under, based on diagnostic criteria. And this classification can change (especially with the advent of phylogenetics), like the previous example: _Cryptocerus bicolor_ eventually being reclassified as _Meranoplus bicolor._
If a new discovery comes from a new undiscovered genus (or even rarer still, new family, or any of the higher ranks). It would be a major discovery.
Subspecies names are largely irrelevant when it comes to taxonomy. They will only be chosen IF there are subspecies. If none exist, it doesn't exist. And even when a new subspecies is discovered, by default, the original population discovered will repeat the given specific name since it is the nominate subspecies. For example. Us modern humans are _Homo sapiens sapiens_ (notice that the specific name is repeated) when talking about us in the context of other proposed subspecies like _Homo sapiens neanderthalensis._
@@AngryKittensAmazing explanation, thank you!
For a queen name, maybe “The queen of hearts”! Because, yknow, heart shaped gaster?
Nah. Cupid empress
We should call her queen of hearts
Gosh that pun at the end xD
Since she's a native species i think the colony should be named something themed towards Philippino culture. Maybe even the language and dialect of RJs home in honor of mom and dads 50th ❤

YAAAAAY!! You decided to do the Volcano themed terrarium me and a few others suggested! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for us AC!
I hope it will look like Lava when they Swarm. Lets see if the Contrast between Ants and Volcano is good.
@@000Starfox000 It would be so cool if the fire ants actually nested INSIDE the volcano and we see them leaving and exiting from the mouth almost like how when you see a massive fire ant mound and ants come running up and down it. You could even have mist come out the top to mimic smoke like what you did for the Leviathan setup and how it came out of the mouth, as long as it wouldn’t disturb the ants that is. Fire ants are tropical ants found it the wet rainforests of South America so I wouldn’t think they’d be bothered by it. I’m so excited!
I think "The Painted Queen" might be a cute name for our new little Bicolored queen! As for the lovely new colony of little Acrobats, maybe they can be named The Flying Circus to fit the acrobat theme? Also because NI! :'D

He's trying to make it a place where native species of ants thrive. Also it isn't as simple just walking out side and capturing a colony let alone trying to capture the queen among the chaos. Also it'd be more harmful to immediate environment to dig up just one colony.

The first to publish a paper in a scientific journal gets to name the species.
Queen Yellowfoot.. probably better than my first thought "Queen Heartass"
For the new possibly undiscovered species of ant. For names I would suggest looking back at your old video on when you last kept the colony as well as this one. I remember seeing the “House of Spades” ♠️ as a suggestion in that video which I loved!
This is AWESOME! Congrats on your new Queen ant, @AntsCanada! Good luck! 🤞🍀
Name for colony: hearted monarchy
Name for Queen: queen-of-hearts
StarShine the dragon has said this, but I want to spread it. Queen of Hearts! Because her gaster is heart shaped, and she is red and black.
This is simply incredible, Antscanada is truly the reason I think ants, nay, bugs so cool in general. Thanks for showing me more beauty that nature has to offer.
You should name your new queen ant “queen of hearts” because her taster is shaped like a heart
Also congrats on the potential new species
i think he should name her that too
I would love to see another ant colony living with other interesting animals since i think it would be really interesting to see them interact or just exist in peace in general😅 maybe something aquatic
Cherry seems like a fitting name due to the lower part of their body having a striking resemblance to one
Omg that's a beautiful queen ant😍
The way those first ants look makes me think of the balrogs from the Lord of the Rings. Maybe you could name the queen Durin's Bane or something else super cool and if she's succesful in hatching those eggs and the colony survives, I'd suggest they could be named something with balrogs.
Another suggestion could be something with dragons. The texture of their bodies make me think of scales. And combined with that beautiful dark red and black coloring and the spines, it makes me think of dragons too. So, the queen could always be the mother of the dragons. Something like that.
When it comes to the other new colony you got, maybe you could call them something along the lines of air nomads or something avatar-y that has to do with the air nomads. They make me think of the air nomads at least for some odd reason. No idea why.
And I have a suggestion for a cool terrarium concept if you are succesful at raising both of these colonies: You could do something of a flat design, where the colonies live above and below each other. Maybe you could put the dragony ants at the bottom and the air nomad ants at the top (I'm naming them like this for the lack of a better name right now). Obviously seperated from each other, but they'd be neighbours. I've never seen a setup like that before, and I think it'd be super cool if you can achieve something like that. You could obviously design the terrariums in a way where they both create one beautiful scene to look at. And then when you take a closer look, you realize they're two seperate ones.
Also, I have noticed too that the nuptial flight season has started here. I've seen some winged ants (didn't see if it was males or queens). Sadly I don't have the space or money to keep ants, but it's always amazing to see them come out.
I'm gonna suggest to name the queen, "Queen Cullers of the 555th Legion" Kinda have a Clone Wars aesthetic going for it.
This mans backyard is legendary
you should make a mini country and add 4 colonies to 4 different sections of it. you can seperate them by adding "rivers' or 'oceans" with ant eating fish in the waters
“Now if you’ve been following the channel for a while, you may recall a very special ant species.”
Me: “wait it hasn’t been that long since the discovery of species 555. Has it…? **checks** IT’S BEEN 2 YEARS WHAT?!”
*I’ve been following your channel for over 4 years and it’s gotten to the point where I’m thinking older videos are still relatively new.* 💀💀
I had the same thought process!
those ants are so gorgeous! i hope they get to live for a good time.
I really hope Ants Canada doesnt blow his house up with the new fire ant setup...
For a name suggestion for the Queen I was thinking of "Queen Of Hearts" because their gaster are shaped like a heart. Also They could be called the Heart Empire/Heart Kingdom.
Yaay nuptial flight this year I need to get me an ant colony I even have all the tips from your old videos :D
Same here, i'm just waiting for the nuptial flights

Omg. I'm so excited for this journey of both of these ants. Would love updates on the termites as well.
Species 555 name the queen of hearts.
The next one name would be queen of spades
Queen of hearts. She's red and heart shaped gastor. And she stole our hearts
You discovered it so I think generally you would be the one to name it, this is amazing how you found not one but two scientifically important species all in you’re own backyard. Congratulations 👏🏻 always a pleasure watching you though of late I haven’t had the time I used to 😔 need to catch up.
Congrats on the two new queen ants!!
the 555 queen could be called "queen of hearts" for a quite obvious reason
Nah. Maybe Cupid empress
You should name the new ant species "Sand Storm" because of there color and how they raise there gasters as if they where all ways ready to attack
The first queen should be named "Fire walking empress"
The second one
"Queen of hearts"
