I absolutely adore this color way. I am STUNNED at how amazingly your vision came to life! If I were going to make this yarn I would call it “Goblin Queen”. I hope you experiment with mixing dark and bright colors some more!!! 🖤💜🖤💜
My fave colors to work with are breaking violet and the lavender/pink/mauve/taupe theme although the latter I have not had much luck with. Yours is exquisite, thanx. I was so glad the resist wasn't white, the soft pink just wonderful.
This is so gorgeous! I bought some yarn online recently, expecting it would look like this. It did not. Seems I will have to do it myself. Never tried dyeing before but your videos are really inspiring and I love your enthusiasm. Maybe I will actually try it. Thank you for everything you put into this. Your efforts are much appreciated!
That is truly stunning yarn! I hope to try this myself someday, so this video is added to my list of saved videos! Thanks again Rebecca for another fun experiment and tutorial!
You are so welcome! I am so inspired by this technique. I just wish it didn't take me so long to rewind self striping yarn or else I'd immediately try this in 5 different color combinations!
In my opinion the finished yarn doesn't smell like vinegar any more. The rinse should take care of that. (BUT I might be so used to the vinegar smell from dyeing that I might not notice a hint of it in dry yarn.)
Hello I’m french , I love watching your colorful experiences 😊. I would have a question, I thought it was not necessary thermal shock to avoid the felting of the wool, or it seems that you immerse the wool in hot water. I do not understand. Could you explain to me what is different from other colors? Thank you in advance if you could help me understand. Can we do the same with food coloring? Thanks take care of yourself and your family☺️😘
In my experience, it is less risky for yarn to quickly heat up then it is to quickly cool off. When fibers heat up they relax and open up a bit. If they are shocked by cold to quickly then they can shrink back in a disordered (and potentially felted) way. I have never had issues adding cool yarn to a hot dye bath - but I try to be very cautious going the other direction. Purple pop is a finicky dye - it is bightly colored but it takes a long time to completely absorb, which is why I hypothesized I could see the breaking here. I don't know much about the actual pigments in here, but other colors (like fluorescents) that are slower to bind to yarn would work nicely. This should work really nicely with food coloring. I might start with a bit less acid so you could see the breaking (versus getting more of a white or pastel in the interior.)
Thank you for watching! I think if I had a sock machine it would make swatches go a bit faster, but I don't have one. (The knitting machines I have for making blanks have the gauge too loose to be a proper swatch to see the colorway.)
I was thinking too about a knitting machine. A basic one, like the Singer 260/360 is easier to find. Though, the learning curve is a little bit steep. But I find the mechanical aspects of this kind of machine quite impressive.
Is it 6 meters circumference or lenght folded? Have prepared a crochet-crochet again, crochet again skein, which I try with the easter egg dyes, I found in hor pink, purple and aqua. Hope the liquid dye will not give me trouble.
The gauge on my knitting machine is SO loose that I don't think it would be a good representation of what the yarn looks like. I don't mind swatching colorways like this, I just know that I don't have that extra 20+ minutes to add to every different colorway I create. :D
The knitting machines that I have work great for making blanks, but the gauge is so big that it wouldn't really tell use much about the yarn. (Of course, the ones that I have are cheap children's toys versus an actual CSM.)
I’m sure you’ve done this before, maybe a few times, but with all the videos I’ve seen, I cannot find them. Could you explain what these terms mean that you use: breaking, striking, resist points etc. I’ve heard you use them many times and love what your doing, but with these terms, I’m completely lost. Thank you!
@Wip Queen - This is a great suggestion. I should do a FAQ video defining a bunch of terms so it is all in one place. Here is a video where I chat about food coloring breaking ua-cam.com/video/TRQSvLgpb1s/v-deo.html (But the general concept applies to other dye types.)
Sure! I imagine that you could add a little purple pop to some navy or something and get that peek-a-boo colors. The reason why this worked so well is that purple pop absorbs SO SLOWLY so I guessed that I might be able to get it to stay behind.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this video. Dyeing yarn at home is SO SO much fun. this kind of technique can be done with food coloring, too.
Whoa. Just stunning! One of my favorites you’ve ever done
Wow, thank you!
Love this one!!
Glad you like it!

Looking forward to trying this method!! looks cool
I'm so glad you liked it!
I say this every video but I think I mean it this time.. " favorite yarn yet!"
I love it! I love that I can keep exciting you :D
Love that technique! The swatch looks awesome, like smoke billowing 💕
This turned out even better than it was in my head at the start of the video!
Stunning yarn! Just curious - does the yarn smell like vinegar? Or does the bath take care of that?

Thank you so much
I will try to translate your answer.
😘
A sock machine or knitting machine for quick swatches? 😇😘 thank you for your work.
Thank you for watching! I think if I had a sock machine it would make swatches go a bit faster, but I don't have one. (The knitting machines I have for making blanks have the gauge too loose to be a proper swatch to see the colorway.)

Hey rebecca I was watching this again n had a thought...what if you try this colorway using a doughnut? What you think?
I think it would be really really cool! I want to do more of those doughnuts in the future.
Is it 6 meters circumference or lenght folded? Have prepared a crochet-crochet again, crochet again skein, which I try with the easter egg dyes, I found in hor pink, purple and aqua. Hope the liquid dye will not give me trouble.
I believe it is 6 meters in circumference. Good luck!
Maybe try swatching on your knitting machine. May not be the same, but it will give the idea of it.
The gauge on my knitting machine is SO loose that I don't think it would be a good representation of what the yarn looks like. I don't mind swatching colorways like this, I just know that I don't have that extra 20+ minutes to add to every different colorway I create. :D
How about a knitting machine for swatches? Not sure how long it takes to set up the initial stitches but you’d have rows in no time...
The knitting machines that I have work great for making blanks, but the gauge is so big that it wouldn't really tell use much about the yarn. (Of course, the ones that I have are cheap children's toys versus an actual CSM.)
Cool!
Thank you!

fan dam tastic ...WOW!
Thank you 😋
Why do I feel like this is going into your stash?
tempting for sure! BUT I think there is a reasonable chance I can replicate this at some point.
Next time try doing it without the pre-soak
That would be fun, too. I think that it would result in more white being left behind.
