***** The "virus" in the movie (the disease it's based off of is spread by bacteria) is fucking ridiculous- waterborne? Really? And that spreads throughout the whole nation, despite the fact purification systems/safety standards prevent such? Can I also point out that no one in their right mind would be okay with nationally distributing unchecked water from some random creek in the Midwest, or wherever this takes place? The virus somehow goes by without a single person stating "Hey there's these fucking virus particles just floating around in this measurement of our water, boss". This movie, like most horror films today, rely off of, not only it's individual characters being dumb, but the *entire nation* having shit for brains. We shouldn't even be worried about a disease getting in- chemicals, while still rare to infect our drinking water, can sometimes slip by, but safety standards prevent that from being common.

you guys are analyzing the situation too much. It's a scary movie, not necessarily a historically and biologically accurate one. Just let your imagination run free...
***** That's what I was talking about. From what it looks like in the intro, the water doesn't seem to go through much filtration. It just seems to go straight through to the bottling process. They could have done something to show attempted filtration, if only to establish how hardcore the germ was. But by judging by how bat-shit crazy and clownish the rest of the movie was, I wasn't expecting much.
Christopher Spaulding not sure about this one but I know the first cabin fever was based in North Carolina, we rented a cabin up there in 2001 that had water coming in from God knows where just like that with only a small filtration system and I wouldn't touch it! They do that in rural areas up there to avoid paying several thousand for a well, and yes it's very illegal lol
I'm starting to piece this together. Now that I think about it, when Paul (Rider Strong) or one of the girls did try a glass of water, she started to feel strange. Then the realization hit when Paul fell in the water where the dead corpse was. If he was seeing the water as a sign that it was a restricted resevoir and somehow linking to the faucet, then he knew that it was bad. Thinking about this film somewhat makes me question if at the time, was it because the water company had poor filtering? I'm so confused...yet...mortified.
Paul got the disease from having sex, not from drinking the water, I'm guessing he didn't drink the water, considering Eli Roth confirmed it was from having sex with that girl. Also yes it could be poor filtering, or it could be that they we're lazy, in never gets explained, maybe the virus is so infectious it can get past the filtering system.
