So true. Brian was the smart one, Roger was the cute one, Deaky was the quiet one, and Freddie was... Freddie. You couldn't put Freddie into a nice, neat little box, and that uniqueness was one of the main reasons Queen had such staying power.
I think Queen never woulda worked if all the members were clones of each other --- they all had unique personalities that clashed but also became unified as a family --- that is pretty rare in rock bands over 25 years

I was and they were not nearly as iconic then as they are now. They were my favorite band, but they weren't much bigger in the early 80's then bands like Judas Priest or REO Speedwagon or Styx etc etc. In the USA, I used to get teased a lot for liking them, but time, I'm happy to say, has shown that my youthful musical taste was spot on.
My family raised me up with this band and I'm glad to say that I wish Freddie was still alive.

All the comments on these videos are either "I'm 15 and I listen to this music because it makes me hipster and cool", or comments complaining about that stuff.
First off, I'm 15 as well, and I *love* classic rock. I know there are good artists in this generation, but a majority of the popular songs right now are not really that great.
Second, I don't listen to this music because it makes me cool. Of course I enjoy having a taste in music that's different from the current generation, because it makes me feel *different*. I really like listening to music that's different from the current generation because i feel like I don't blend in with the crowd.
Third, can we have one comment talking about how great Queen is in general? All of their songs are amazing, and Freddie Mercury is fucking *incredible*. His "outrageously flamboyant" stage persona is awesome to watch, and his voice is *amazing*. Even songs like this one, which have a rather happy and upbeat sound, make me feel kind of sad, or melancholy. The songs all have such deep meanings, and invoke a lot of feeling.
Every time I hear this song, it sounds like Freddie Mercury is not only telling the world, but any outside conflict to just let him rock. I don't know the exact date this song came out, but if it came out around the time he was diagnosed with HIV, that brings a whole new meaning. "Don't Stop Me Now" sounds like a plead or a command, depending on your interpretation. It's as if Freddie is telling HIV to leave him alone, and let him continue his career and passion.

Well said right there. I'm 18 right now, and really, I've had a lot of people in general saying stuff about being cool for listening to certain music. It's not really directly said, but the way some people claim they listen to "death metal" and then put on some kind of bullshit modern melodic whatever band is basically the same shit. It sometimes does piss me off also. Especially since I listen to the ACTUAL old school death metal bands. Sometimes people also really look at me in some weird way, if I put on Genesis or something like that. I think it's all just people wanting to look smart, throwing music terms and whatnot everywhere, like they are a fucking rocket scientist. In some cases, they don't even play an instrument, or just generally tell stuff every fan knows. You are damn right.
