There was a huge structure fire in my town about 2 weeks ago. Many of the firefighters were getting physically exhausted because they had been working on it for so long. My dad is a police officer who originally got there to block traffic on the road. He walked around and asked if there was anything he could do to help because he saw many of the firemen were struggling from exhaustion. He ended up spraying water on the outside of the structure and eventually him and the fire chief went into the structure while neither of them had protective gear and it was still on fire. He got a medal from our city manager for his bravery and will to help.

I should start firefighter 1 soon and it’s kinda terrifying to me to know that in about a year I’ll be feeling around in intense heat, thick smoke with zero visibility, and not knowing whether the floors gonna collapse. I’m very excited
I miss my days of being a firefighter. I was on a dept in Ohio and one in Kentucky back in the good old days before all the new over regulating that is ruining that career.
Great video. Those guys were composed and had a good knockdown. I know in the fire service we're always reevaluating tactics based on new knowledge learned about fire behavior. I wonder if they would have closed the garage door and any exterior doors to create a ventilation limited condition, and then flow a solid stream from the alpha exterior to the second floor ceiling for about 30 seconds to cool the fire compartment, if that would have made the interior conditions more visible for a subsequent interior attack? Nevertheless they did a great job.
Luke steam hurts and might scald any potential victims. Extreme heat and flame WILL burn victims. I’d rather risk steam scalding than exposure to 800-1000 degree heat. That’s just my mode of thinking. As per usual with these vids, talk to occupants to see if everyone is out. That also factors into the process.
I was wondering why they didn’t hit it from the exterior first to knock down what they could see quickly before it spread too much further. Because it took a long time to get the hose up inside the house and up the stairs, why didn’t they quickly hit it from the outside first?
It NEVER ceases to astound me how often firefighters arriving to a structure fire have to pause to put on their hood and mask. Why is it so impossible for them to ASSUME they will need the hood and mask and have them on PRE ARRIVAL, so all they need is to turn on the air supply from the tank. In my fire company, the jump seats in rear of cab had 4 tank and mask assemblies ready to go, and we always were ready to run in as soon as we arrived.
Firefighter here. The reason for that is when we put our mask on with no air our masks fogs up and we can't see and might end up tripping over stuff and hurt ourselves. So for safety we put our masks on before entering the house.
lol, masking up on the truck is dangerous imo. Hoods should be on you already, yes. Get to the door mask up and get at it. It takes 10 seconds if your proficient, which you should be. No reason for anyone to get hurt tripping over something bc you wanted to mask up on the truck. Also, if you have your mask on you're probably missing 20-30% (at least) of your own personal size up when you get off the rig.
In Paterson, NJ I've watched the firefighters many times when we had nothing to do. The first thing they did was a couple of guys jumped off and grabbed these enormous wooden poles with brass heads and go to town busting out the windows of the involved structure. The poles actually bent and acted like whips and were very effective at breaking windows and allowing smoke to come pouring out. The tool looked like the old tools the nuns used in my school to close the windows that were up high. That is all.
Agh just as I was thinking 2nd floor bedroom, the officer says it ;-) PPV would have been a great choice since the window was already broken out. Good job overall.
Fully agree, they should of done a strait stream in that window puking fire for 15 or so seconds just to get a bit of a knock down, soon as they where set up with a PPV put the fan in the front door for another 15 or seconds and push all that heat and smoke out that window. Then literally walk up the stairs standing up. literally no smoke or heat to speak of, and put that fire out. I know its not as cool, but I have another 15 years to go in my career and I'm not a fan of cancer or unnecessary risks. Just my opinion. Before anyone says the fan makes the fire bigger.....thats what the initial knock down is for and the speed of access being able to almost run to the fires location. just always make sure you have a flow path for that heat and smoke to escape. Our department has almost eliminated the vertical vent and almost always go with a PPV/PPA approach. Not as cool as walking into the dark but it saves more lives of the public and the firefighters. Keep up the good work guys.
The BEST thing would be for the Nozzleman to get up there before the line is even charged, and hit it from the inside out the moment water is available. Also viable victims are found in a more timely fashion this way. The small risk is worth it. (25 years as a nozzle man in Rochester, New York). Cancer? - Don't remove SCBA too early, and don't lick your turnouts, you'll be OK! Stay safe and kick butt, brother. You have the BEST job in the world ahead of you.
Saw lots of black smoke in the back. I would tone a second alarm because it looks like its making its way to the back rooms and attic. Also looks like there is some wind which is fires best friend. Good knock!!!
I'm a new firefighter, but my first thought was to do a transitional attack. They had that hand line charged, looking at lots of fire on the front of the house. I would thinking putting a quick knock on the fire there first, would help slow big time. It looks like that's where the origin of the fire was anyway, based on how much it had self-ventilated that alpha side of the house. But I would love to know a more experienced persons perspective. I'm definitely going to show this to my crew next shift.
Your spot on. Fast attack always when possible. Why stretch a line up stairs first? From the video, looks like they had the resources. Unless there was report of persons trapped.
Transitional attack doesn't work. I seen a video where they hit the fire from the outside for 60 secs. It lit back off before they made it to the bedroom that was on fire.
You’re a new firefighter. Enough said. There’s a reason bosses are on every rig. Putting it out is the easy part. Anyone can dump thousands of gallons from the yard.
As for what I learned in school from my teacher is you do not want to do that first. The reason being you would only push the fire further into the house and potentially risk catching the rest of the house on fire instead of just having a room and contents fire. Yes the fire is venting which is good because it will want to stay there for the oxygen flow. Which you will want to push the fire out the direction its venting.
Better to get inside within striking distance with an uncharted line, instead of waiting outside for the line to be charged. Since they did wait, then yeah, you have a point. They did pretty well, tho. Nothings perfect
how long did it take to get water on the fire??? With the amount of external fire showing I would've thought an initial EXTERIOR attack would be prudent.....
Y’all don’t understand how much easier to locate and extinguish a room and contents fire from the interior. Especially a one bedroom fire. Hitting it with the gun from the exterior I think would of make it harder for the men in there, and this comes from personal experience
nice work, i only have 1 question, why throw the ladder up right next to the fire when its clearly self vented? The only thing that seemed to do was ruin your ladder. I've only been a firefighter for a year but let me know, i'm always trying to learn.
Ladders are placed for a variety of reasons, including emergency egress. So yes the window has flames coming out now, but later a firefighter may need to bail out of that window. Check out this article for more www.firefighterbasics.com/2016/05/18/ladder-with-purpose/
Great job and best of all nobody got hurt. Not trying to back seat quarterback but question is was a thought of transitional attack or ppv attack made? Or were conditions not favorable to it
I would be a firefighter if i was strong enough and on ladders I am usually slower, I could possibly go quicker if needed, but I think I wasn’t meant to be a firefighter.
Why were those people so close to the house and even _in_ the house? As soon as a fire breaks out, the only people who should be anywhere near it are the firemen.

Thank you for all your hard work!
Just nothing but fucking respect for firefighters honestly
I'm a new firefighter, but my first thought was to do a transitional attack. They had that hand line charged, looking at lots of fire on the front of the house. I would thinking putting a quick knock on the fire there first, would help slow big time. It looks like that's where the origin of the fire was anyway, based on how much it had self-ventilated that alpha side of the house. But I would love to know a more experienced persons perspective. I'm definitely going to show this to my crew next shift.
Jonathan agreed. No reason not to hit it quick when it’s already visible and venting.
Well done on the aggressive attack. Nice job!
Great job, only thing I may have done different is hit it from the yard into that upper window before entry in an attempt to reset it
Welcome to the wonderful adventures of UA-cam's 2 AM recommendations
Smoke is definitely a killer like this. Its so hard to know where you are, let alone find a way out. Wow.
Never a dull day
Nice work, maybe a quick hit through the window while waiting for everyone else to mask up. Coordinate fire attack with PPA
Better to get inside within striking distance with an uncharted line, instead of waiting outside for the line to be charged. Since they did wait, then yeah, you have a point. They did pretty well, tho. Nothings perfect
How can they see what the HE** theyre doing?🔥😜 BRAVE!!! FIREFIGHTERS❗THANKYOU!!🚒💙🚒❤🚒💙🚒❤🚒💙🔥
Nice work
Firefighter Activity
how long did it take to get water on the fire??? With the amount of external fire showing I would've thought an initial EXTERIOR attack would be prudent.....
See fire shoot water
Me too it’s frustrating seeing all that fire and no water on it for like 2 minutes
Y’all don’t understand how much easier to locate and extinguish a room and contents fire from the interior. Especially a one bedroom fire. Hitting it with the gun from the exterior I think would of make it harder for the men in there, and this comes from personal experience
Finally a FD that knows how to fight fire from the inside - Good Job !
i don't know these guys from a can of paint, but i was backing them up like they were the new orleans saints!! balls o' steel boyz.... 👍
Damn that sucks, it was a nice house too
I want to be a fire fighter when I grow up :D
nice work, i only have 1 question, why throw the ladder up right next to the fire when its clearly self vented? The only thing that seemed to do was ruin your ladder. I've only been a firefighter for a year but let me know, i'm always trying to learn.
Ladders are placed for a variety of reasons, including emergency egress. So yes the window has flames coming out now, but later a firefighter may need to bail out of that window. Check out this article for more www.firefighterbasics.com/2016/05/18/ladder-with-purpose/
NICE VIDEO!!!
Hey I thought you speak russian

Love those candles.
Nice quick nock down! Good work under 0 vis
It's hard to do in the dark been there done it and it sucks. I wonder if thermal cameras would have helped.
Bunch of bad asses!
Nice stop...well done
Great job and best of all nobody got hurt. Not trying to back seat quarterback but question is was a thought of transitional attack or ppv attack made? Or were conditions not favorable to it
Could have done both or just make the push like they did. Judgement call and none would have been wrong.
I would be a firefighter if i was strong enough and on ladders I am usually slower, I could possibly go quicker if needed, but I think I wasn’t meant to be a firefighter.
The real deal 🤘🤘🤘🤙🤙🤙
These guys are so cool.how come it takes ages to get water on?
Why were those people so close to the house and even _in_ the house? As soon as a fire breaks out, the only people who should be anywhere near it are the firemen.
Why?
Wow, you guys know what you are doing.
I'm interested in getting a camera but we signed confidentiality forms to not release any images. Aren't you guys the same?
Why was there still power in the building? Ceiling fan was spinning as if it was still on.
I know this video is old now. But can someone tell me why they didn’t start with a defensive / exterior attack?
Nice job...
This looks like bam margeras first house
This looks like the home from the paranormal activity movies
Is it ok if I use this video for a tribute
It’s so dark. But good hardwork
