Hey man, I've been playing for 50 years and never took the time to look at tabs before. I recently started taking serious lessons and my teacher couldn't believe I didn't read tablature. This is the first UA-cam video I have seen on the subject, and it's so incredibly well done, it may be the last. I might not need any others. This is really well done Brian. Thank You.
Tnx you really motivated me. Its gonna be a year for me after a few days or already. Year today I kinda was dissapointed that I didn't take that much time to learn and saw others progress of 1 years was better than mine. Let's keep rocking tho as long as we have the passion to rock we can rock🤘🏼🎸
As a new guitar player, I was extremely confused on the hammer and the pull. That was until I watched this video! This has helped me a crazy amount to understand tabs, thank you so much!!
As a biggener guitar player, I'm truly grateful for your help. This video is the best video I've found about tabs. I've always been confused about these weird symbols, that is why, I couldn't really immitate the sound of songs I was learning. But now thanks to you all I need to do is to mester these incredible Technics.
I’ve been trying to play guitar for almost 60 years and now thanks to you I can now have some sense on how to play lead guitar. Thanks I really appreciate your sharing.
Like some many have already said, excellent! Like them, and you guessed, I was self-taught. Played a lot from 10 years old to late 20s. Then stopped. Now relearning after a 35 year hiatus. At 64 years old you have taught me. I thank you sir.
Got an insight into a tab yesterday, looking at what the woman played and looking at the diagram. It got me interested and i decided to delve into it today. Your video is the second on tabs i looked up today and it simply is ... Wow! Hey, i subscribed sharp sharp ( meaning ... Quickly.). Thanks so much. God bless you.
I really was blown away when I saw notes on a staff and guitar tabs on the same page. It really highlights how difficult notes on a staff are to read for the guitar.
Até que enfim, um vídeo que ensina exatamente o que eu queria saber. Hammers, Pulls e Slides. Vi em varias tablaturas, consegui entender os slide vendo, mas o outros dois não! Thank you so much!
@@gufurlan Notou que tem um número no meio? O 8 (7-8-7)? O símbolo interliga os dois 7, mas não o 8. Isso indica que é pra ele ser tocado em apenas um momento, ou seja, hammer (literalmente martelado).
1:20 well basically acording to the video the strings are upside down according to the thickness of strings / string order 1-6 ( if you understand my thought) of the video vs the tab part on top
This Video helped me soso much, thanks.🙏🏻 I been playing the acoustic guitar for 2 years ig and I got an electic guitar on my birthday 1 month ago. Didn't understand these special symbols and I was afraid I'll never be able to play the guitar like my idols from my fav Band... Thank Satan I found u. Finally I got some clarification.
Hi Brian, I’m viewing your excellent tutorial 7 years after you originally posted it. With that said, I hope that my words of praise and thanks find you well! The information that you posted is timeless so it is as relevant now as it was back in 2014. I wish I knew this information a long time ago as it would have greatly assisted with my guitar learning skills. My only problem with tabs is that it’s notes and actions without accompanying rhythm. In your first example, you had four notes in a bar. I guess that helps, but if you have any pointers on reading rhythm into tabs, I’ll come back in 7 years (just kidding!). Thank you for your excellent video.
Just found your channel Brian, I have playing guitar since early age, I sing and mostly play Rhythm guitar, But I just started learning so soloing and lead but never knew how to read tabs. I am self taught pretty much, thank you for sharing your knowledge of sheet music with us. I also subscribed to your channel as well, so now you have another student lol! Look forward to seeing more of your videos! 🎸🙂🙏
Posted many years ago, so I'm rather late finding it. Regardless, excellent summary on reading/writing the variety of notation for guitar tabs. Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you for the great Tab video. I'm getting to the point in my (very) beginner stage that I feel it would be a good strategy to start playing simple songs as a way of connecting the random bits I'm learning, and what better way to do that than by learning tabs!
I’m in shocked. I watch thousands of videos and Brian Kelly sir you have made me happy with this amazing lessons. I will support all of your videos or whatever until the end Thxs!!!!
now I know why I don't sound, like is supposes to sound ouch ouch ouch (been playing for 53 years!!!) after this Slash is going to be in pampers next to me🤣
Thank you very much for this video :) I am like... completely new to guitar and wanted to start with some small stuff, so I looked at tutorials, but I saw symbols I didn't understand... you've helped me a lot with these 12 minutes :D
Very nice. Only things you might add would be: 1). Natural Harmonic (NH) 2). Pinch Harmonic (PH) 3). Palm Mute (P.M.) 4). String Rake (XXX) As these are very common on electric guitar.
This is very good information. Thank you for posting. It just seems counterintuitive to me - - I would think that the strings would lay in the same direction as the guitar neck on the tab
If you were to take your guitar in your hands and flip it directly over so that strings were now facing you...that is the view that you are seeing in TABs, chord diagrams and fretboard diagrams. This is also consistent with standard sheet music, which also has "low notes down, high notes up". It will make more sense the longer you play!
UA-cam: do you want to watch a person talk about guitar stuff Me: A person who doesn't have a clue about guitar *YES* Update: I have ordered a guitar and will be enrolling myself for classes

I never played ordered my first fender accoustic guitar will have to learn everything and this is the best video I seen about reading tabs
Thats sounds so absurd that i dont believe you. I mean 10 years but 50.. not buying it, good story tho
FIFTY YEARS
4 years from when this was made, still a massive help, thank you
Timeless year after year this has aged well, and I joining his online program.

@@Shed_v2 Woah man! You're huge ! Keep up the good work!🎸
literally the best 12 minutes ever. I learned more about guitar in this video than I did after 2 months of playing lol I can’t thank you enough!!
As a new guitar player, I was extremely confused on the hammer and the pull. That was until I watched this video! This has helped me a crazy amount to understand tabs, thank you so much!!
Straight to the point. No BS. Great Video. Worth the watch.

Many years later and this video still holds up so well. Thank you, friend! 🎉
Thank u been looking for this see these things in tab an I figured that's what it was but thanks for clarification
Just what I was looking for to clearly explain tablature. Thanks again for another great video.
As a newbie, thank you so much!I was having trouble with reading tab and you explained it so well!
I’ve been trying to play guitar for almost 60 years and now thanks to you I can now have some sense on how to play lead guitar. Thanks I really appreciate your sharing.

Good job Brian in 12 minutes you taught a class that needs to be repeated as ones journey with guitar continues.

Thank you! 😀
I'm 27 and i'm starting learn now, this was a great help buddy, thank you so much 🎸🤘
Very nice lesson. I’m 67 and just learning guitar. I was so confused by the notations. Thank you for the explanations. Now I can learn new songs.
This needs more views
Nice to see someone explain the efficient, easier to notate and read correct tab rather than the tab used online.
Made 6 years ago and still helps, thank you!^^
I've seen other videos, and this might be the most complete on the subject. Thank you so much Brian!
The best lesson ever of learning the tabs . Thanks bro 🫡
One of the best bending explanations! Thank you!
Thanks for going exactly where we need, sometimes we just need to refresh or quickly get into playing. Thanks a ton.
I really was blown away when I saw notes on a staff and guitar tabs on the same page. It really highlights how difficult notes on a staff are to read for the guitar.
Your the best at putting examples very easy to understand
That is what I need. All of other videos just explain what is 1 2 3 and strings. Thank you.
This tutorial was perfect. Thanks from Brazil!
I'm trying some more complex songs and had no idea what these meant. Thanks for the clear explanation!
thank you sir, this was very useful. i couldn't find any tutorials that actually explained the symbols well
This vid was extremely usefull! I knew the absolute basic, but all these variation of this and that, I had no clue. Thx a lot!
Thanks... out of many videos this one helped me the most,
Straight to the point
i started playing guitar like 2 months ago and just came across your video. It helped alot, thanks mate.
thank you this was so helpful i’ve been looking for the meaning of the symbols for so long!!
Another great lesson, answering another question I had. Brian, you're the man. Thanks. I'm trying to get good fast and your videos are helping.
Até que enfim, um vídeo que ensina exatamente o que eu queria saber. Hammers, Pulls e Slides. Vi em varias tablaturas, consegui entender os slide vendo, mas o outros dois não! Thank you so much!
1:20 well basically acording to the video the strings are upside down according to the thickness of strings / string order 1-6 ( if you understand my thought) of the video vs the tab part on top
What other UA-camrs take 10 minutes to explain, you took less than 2 for that and had way more info :3
@Der Porkmeister Diggi du denkst zu viel nach AHSHDHDH
Your comment was on hit n would have hit that like - except you fucked it up with that Satan bullshit ...Enjoy your time in HELL lol
Finally! A tutorial that shows how to do most of the things I’ve been trying to learn! Thank you so much!
I might start working with tabs, after watching your video. Reading music is so much more involved Great! Great job

Thank you so much, I've been unknowingly looking for these since years🥺💗💗
I went through several vids until I found what I was looking for. Much thanks bro!
The most useful video I've ever seen in UA-cam
Man your video saved my ass as a beginner and definitely a lot of time thank you
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
That was a very good explanation of how to read tabs
thank you so much i’m a beginner so this helped lot
Most helpful video on UA-cam
Thank you for making this video.👍👍👍👍 Now my knowledge burst up to double..
Beautiful explanation sir, thank you. Appreciate this. 🙏👍
Thank you man!! This helped a lot. Especially after learning hammering I feel so cool😂
Thank you sm!! Very useful, I like it when people get to the point and explain in simple terms
Basically each fret is a sequential number (maximim is 19) with each string in the order of EFGDAE when identifying from smallest to largest caliber~
I knew some of it. Chords, hammer ons and pull offs. I did not know the rest. So this was a good catch up.
Awesome! Thank you for the great Tab video. I'm getting to the point in my (very) beginner stage that I feel it would be a good strategy to start playing simple songs as a way of connecting the random bits I'm learning, and what better way to do that than by learning tabs!

now I know why I don't sound, like is supposes to sound ouch ouch ouch (been playing for 53 years!!!) after this Slash is going to be in pampers next to me🤣
Was looking for a video like this for a long time. Thanks man
Wow, that was very informative, thanks for sharing, for a beginner this helps a lot.
Thank you very much for this video :) I am like... completely new to guitar and wanted to start with some small stuff, so I looked at tutorials, but I saw symbols I didn't understand... you've helped me a lot with these 12 minutes :D
Thanks a million! Super clear and to the point.
Thank you so muchhh! 🥺
Very nice.
Only things you might add would be:
1). Natural Harmonic (NH)
2). Pinch Harmonic (PH)
3). Palm Mute (P.M.)
4). String Rake (XXX)
As these are very common on electric guitar.
This was the first video I ever made. It would have done it much differently and better if I had done it today 😁
No problem. Was still a good vid.
Incredibly helpful. Great video
This is very good information. Thank you for posting. It just seems counterintuitive to me - - I would think that the strings would lay in the same direction as the guitar neck on the tab
