  • Transfer beer without introducing oxygen - Simple and Easy - Transfer Pump System
    Also referred to as the Anti-Gravity Transfer Pump Kit or system
    The system is really easy and if you need it, get it. If you can wait I would expect lots of deals during the upcoming holidays.
    Transfer Pump system I use is listed here.

      Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the party. My video quality, audio, and lighting have improved since this video as I'm constantly learning at both brewing and producing videos.

      LOL - Yep just sent it to you. I love my glass carboys but I feel your pain (I cleaned 4 of them plus 1 plastic one last night...I feel your pain). I am strongly considering slowly migrating to some larger opening plastic fermenters for easy cleaning but I'm looking at 2 of the 3 plastic ones I have and I can see tiny marks that could be scratches which isn't an issue with my glass ones so I'm not going to buy a bunch right away and will take my time testing a few first to see how well they do. I'm really concerned about the big ones with the yeast catching on the bottom as it just looks like a nightmare waiting to happen. I've seen too many disasters with those.

    I plan on using this for filtering. From seeing the pump strength, it seems like it'll work. No more wasting CO2.

      It does a great job. You will get a few bubbles occasionally but a quick CO2 purge afterwards and it is in my opinion the safest way to do a transfer. Good Luck.,

    I have to use keg for a 2nd ferment tank to free up main. Will gelatin (1st time using) go bad if I put it in now for a week without going in the fridge?

    • @BitterRealityBrewing
      @BitterRealityBrewing  3 роки тому

      It won't go bad but most people don't see much of an effect from Gelatin unless the wort is cold crashed at the same time. A lot of people including myself will add the gelatin when you put it in the keezer or kegerator to chill and carbonate. After it is fully carbonated and has chilled for 4 to 7 days the you connect the liquid line and pull your first cup of what usually looks like sludge and after that it will just be beer and based on flocculation of the yeast you may or may not have some yeast still suspended in suspension. You can also try Super kleer finings like Kieselsol and Chitosan which I've had mixed results but I am a bit impatient so it might just be me.

    I saw this comment that you made on another video about dry hopping (TheApartmentBrewer):
    "Missed moving the beer to a pre-purged keg with a drop hopper filter already in it and then after 3 to 7 days based on the recipe moving the beer once again to a final keg. This is my preferred method as it works great without oxygen concerns."
    Could you please describe how you purge the keg with the dry hops in it? =)

      Love your preferred method as that is mine for anything hoppy. Let me know if this is what you were asking but after ensuring the keg is crazy clean and the hop basket that I'll be using is also crazy clean I simply tie under the keg lid with double (two strands) cooking string (pre soaked in hot water with star san) and close the keg up. And then I simply use the CO2 from my Keezer with about 3 to 4 nice purges after leaving the CO2 on until it hits about 5 psi which usually happens pretty quick and any hop aroma will be minimal. Ballast Point recommends the same in regards to the purging before filling - www.ballastpoint.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Kegging-Instructions.pdf

      @@BitterRealityBrewing Yes thank you very much!
      I just had my first oxidised beer this weekend after transfering. So I'm trying to pinpoint what my biggest mistake was. I made two mistakes that I could think of.
      1: When dry hopping in a purged keg. I only purge the keg two times with 30psi. I got this information from the book "The new IPA" from Scott Janish in the last chapter where he wrote how they transfer to a keg in his brewery.
      But according to this source: www.themodernbrewhouse.com/kegging-care-guide-purging-transferring-stabilizing-finished-beer/ there is still a lot of O2 left with only two purges at 30 psi.
      2: So then when I transfered to another keg again I was using the sanitizer-purging-method, I used Chemipro Oxi (which contains active O2). There must have been some left in the keg when I transfered it over to this keg.
      More info: First I pressure fermented this in my Fermzilla Allrounder. After the fermentation was done I transfered this over to a new keg (purged according to point 1 above) for dry hopping. After almost 3 days in this keg the beer was perfect in color, taste and so on. Since I don't want to leave the beer on the hops for too long I wanted to transfer it for the last time over to a new keg (purged according to point 2 above). After only 4-5 hours the beer was now clearly oxidised and had turned brown. All transfer were done as a closed transfer using jumpers, spunding valve and so on.
      But I'm suspecting that mistake number 2 was the biggest fault in this case since you are doing 3-4 purges with 5 psi without any problems and also my beer looked perfect after 3 days in the first keg when doing 2 purges of with 30psi.

      Welcome from a very beautiful and old country of Peru. I'm not sure I full understand but if you have pump like the one in the video (about 1 GPM or 3.8LPM), the hoses, connectors for your disconnects if transferring to kegs, I would highly recommend the stainless steel racking cane or at least a good plastic one.

    Wouldn't the pump be introducing air into the beer? I do not have any experience with self priming pumps so I really don't fully understand.

    • @BitterRealityBrewing
      @BitterRealityBrewing  3 роки тому +1

      The water flow before the beer is taking the space that would normally be occupied by air. A tiny amount still does get in but it could just be C02 from agitation but I still purge to be on the safe side.

      @@BitterRealityBrewing That makes sense. Thanks for explaining it. I am going to have to give your method a try!
