Totally agree, and no silly thumbnail or clickbait fake drama nonsense.
He treats the viewers like adults!
@@MarathonGsar cheers guys
As a sales rep in 2008 we were given the normal Passat. Higher up the ladder you got the cc. The desire to have one back in the day was unreal.
That's what many fail to understand is that the CC is higher UP on the ladder than a Passat. When we bought it we been considering Audi's and Mercedes for equivalent prices(with less extrad i may add)!
Laughed my head off at the readers 😂
Such a shame, the previous owner has obviously thought ‘I’ll drive this into the ground’ and then got bored of that idea. That would have made a perfectly retailable car if the previous owner had just serviced it, changed the cam belt and had a mini valet done once a month at the local car wash 🤦🏼♂️
Why MUSTthe previous owner do anything at all for the next owner...evidently they got 2.6k out of the car that was worth 5 k on a garage forecourt....years of motoring on a budget...the previous owner is not in it for a car dealer ...
doesn't need a valet, just keep the mechanical stuff in good order, and clean the windows, headlights etc. Plenty of people are too fond of polish and haven't a clue about the mechanical side.
@@roadwarrior8560 I much prefer to drive around in a clean vehicle with clean carpets and cupholders etc. My car isn’t pristine by any means, I use it day in day out for my business but I do set aside an hour or so a month to give it a good once over. 6 years and 173,000 miles later it’s as fresh as a daisy and gets a clean report every time it goes to the workshop for a service
@@martyngturner I think you’ve got me wrong. The point here is if they had bothered to have it cleaned every once in a while and serviced to a better standard then they’d definitely have got closer to £3500 for it - possibly even £4000. Plus it would have been a much nicer vehicle to drive around in. A lot of people just don’t value their possessions anymore - they let them fall into disrepair and then throw them away or else try to make it someone else’s problem. You get me?
@@martyngturnerat attitude can certainly backfire on them, if they skip oil changes or other care their car is going to live to the ripe old age to 3 months and look like hell when it's parked at the supermarket. Totally unscientific opinion of me but I think that cars will take revenge on the owner for not taking care of it, like losing control of the car because it was riding on tires that looked 30 years old .
I bought an 08 Passat in 2014 for £6,000 with 99k miles on it (later found out it had definitely been clocked 😂) and over 2 years it cost me about £3k. Nice to drive but about every 4 months something would go clunk and it was off to the garage. More often than not I was on the m61 when it happened so I’d get the tow truck to take me to Bloor at Horwich. They were always pleased to see me. On top of it all the plate started AN08 which my mother in law said described me perfectly
Lol at the reg plate 😂
Not sure why they complicate a humdrum Passat with that ridiculous slide in key that costs 300 to replace (online 100) and no half decent 21st century car should be rusting
Man. I feel sorry for you. If I would have to guess, your next car won't be VW. Am I right???😁😁😁
@@zdendaderman5253 we’ve got a VW transporter that’s 6 years old and never missed a beat but it’s been properly looked after from new, I think that’s the difference. I’ve had a Skoda Kodiaq for about a year now too (so also VAG) and I love it. I know VW have their issues but I think my Passat was just an average car that had been seriously abused and not looked after properly
It is very cheap price, in europe they cost much more but in a good condiyltion
My dad had a facelift gt version of the CC with a beige interior and to me it was the most luxurious thing on earth, was so well built and it just screamed class.
Agree
I personally liked your analysis on 1 owner or 5 owner car, I never thought of it like that and it makes perfect sense especially in the Passat case, great video again Matt and it makes perfect sense not to spend any money on it for very little profit 😊
Nice to see honesty when looking at used cars, lots of UA-camrs would have said it cost them £10 to fix it and they just made £2000 profit but you’ve been honest and shown the slim margins you can deal with in your business
Had an 08 Passat for around 2 years (was 4 years old when I bought it). Couldn't fault it, smooth, reliable and very comfortable ride.
That’s a shame it’s a nice looking car. People say Passats can be a bit boring, but for an 11 year old car that design, especially in black, still looks contemporary. Often it’s the silver ones that can look a bit bland, but that one was cool. Hopefully you can still do a ‘should you buy a used Passat?’ video at some point down the line.
It's a Passat CC or just CC and i totally agree with, still looks contemporary, i got one and It's still good looking car
Have to agree about the colour, they're far better in black than white or silver though they did some nice dark colours which indicate someone thought about what they wanted when it was new.
These Passat CCs and the facelifted CC are good cars and they look great as well. Shame the previous owner treated the car badly.
Matt by the end of this year you should do a "Worst Cars I've Bought This Year" video. The C4 Picasso you just had recently has to be number one. The VW Eos is no better either.
I unfortunately have worked in the UK used car market for an awful company called Carcraft, the epitome of dodgy sales tactics
I love the fact that Matt can make a good business just by being honest
Kudos
When I was a kid I was fascinated by one of the others kids dads having one of these and looking back I'm not sure why. I guess was a very concept car style design at the time.
Yeah or maybe you just had nothing better to do?
Very sleek styling isn’t it.
@@ssc4201 Yeah probably not since at the time I was waiting to be picked up from school and someone always got picked up in one of these 😂😂
@@ScottZ370 A lot are used for taxis too. My mate has the normal Passat. It makes this one look like a show car. His is rough 😂
@@ScottZ370 don’t you find it off that apparently loads of dads in your school had this car? What does it say about them?
I remember a car dealer brought us an Audi A5 once to our bodyshop and it was so heavily damaged by a smoker all the windows and roof lining had all turned yellow and all the switches too so bad they had to replace the entire interior to try and sell it. It was also filled with empty bottles of vodka too. The dealer said they would pay us extra if they would deliver it back to them because no one there wanted to drive it back. The dealership is within walking distance of us too like less than half a mile away on the same road lol.
Holy moly, it must have been bad ha ha
I love the CC especially the Facelift with the 4 seater option and highline trim in that metallic Silver, great video as usual Matt :D
CC's are a timeless beauty. They outclass all the 2023's in looks.
Yes they do. In looks they pairing with all german rivals, even the Arteon from the side doesn't look as good as the CC
One of VW's best designs. Stylish and hardly dated over the years.
Agree dan setuju bro
I had a black CC on a ‘10 plate, bought 6 months old. Great spec - two-tone black/cream leather (much better than it sounds) wood trim, ambient lighting, pan-roof, electric rear blind… I loved it, it felt so much more special than it was. Good looking car.
what was included as part of the ambient lighting?
why'd get rid of it already?
I agree. It was a better drive than the badge indicated as well.
@@ridwanrahman5262 good question
The details, like in every other car make the diference
Hello Matt, I think you made the right decision. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
I had a Passat CC company car in 2010. Great motor and probably the best styling VW had produced in a long time .
I had one as well and loved it as a great comfortable motorway cruiser and in its day I always thought that it looked quite stylish. Just a change from the ubiquitous BMWs & Audis
Agree
Had one of these as a long term rental car with my job. Was almost new when I picked it up. It was in a metallic dark brown (sounds terrible but looked amazing with the GT seats in cream and brown leather) and all the extras. I loved that car, it looked way more expensive than it was and was so relaxing to drive doing many relaxing autobahn KM‘s
Nice car, never leave us behind with your great work and great videos and content
Keep up the great work!
Absolutely fantastic video- showing us how to use the test light is absolutely brilliant. Genius
I bought a cheap 2005 X5 last summer, the cigarette smell still transfers to my hands from the steering wheel. Once that smells gets in, it’s near impossible to get out…
I keep going through phases or wanting to buy a used executive car. Thankfully videos like this shake me back to my senses. I know some people scoff at cheap, boring, reliable cars but they make so much sense in the real world. With the cost of living spiralling out of control, why would anyone buy a complicated car that's expensive to fix? Even if you look after them, they're filthy expensive to run and maintain.
binged watched a few of these "I bought a cheap" series and they make great videos!
Loved the mechanics letter. A sharp intake of breath in paper form. The glasses? Suit you sir. Really entertaining video.
When looking to buy a car I go straight to the mot history. If it has loads of advisories or failures it’s a no go as it’s clearly been neglected.
The cost to get that on the forecourt would be more than what you’d retail it for.
You’ve done the right thing to pass it on.
The CC is to me in top 5 of the most elegant cars ever produced.
I totally agree.
Yes, totally agree
Agree 👍
I’ve had one for 2 years now and love it, hard to find something that looks as good but is practical and as quick as it is
Another great watch Matt. Any Volvo purchases or reviews coming up? Preferably older ones 😂
Love your channel and content. Thank you. The Passat CC is a great every day smoker
Someones definitely been smoking in this one

i really like the style to these.. was in love with them since they came out..
Another great presentation.
Thank you
Fabulous content as always, informative with a splash of humour.😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Ah ha ha ha ha...."I'd rather keep something like this on the road, it's far better than buying a new electric car". AMEN. You are totally right.
Totally agree
just come across your videos and very enjoyfull videos will see many of them :)
Nice to see A business man trying to make profits but in the same time is A car lover.
Really enjoying ya videos, keep up the good work
Currently have a CC on 66 plate. Best car I have owned. Looks great and torquey enough.
My late grandfather sat in the same chair for years and the ceiling above and curtains alongside were that lovely shade of yellow due to the woodbines. As for the VW I guess the finances were also spent on tobacco rather than maintenance
Brilliant cars i love your videos keep up the good ⚒ work.
Why am I binge watching your videos!?
Right! On to the next one!
I remember getting a lift in my friend's dad's Passat CC about 8 years ago. I remember it being supremely comfortable and quiet, and it seemed to have effortless power from a passenger's perspective. I said to him: "nice car, this". He replied: "Cheers mate. I'm just glad the fucker started this morning".
That swiftly put me off the idea of owning one, though I'd take another ride in one any day!
You're Dad's friend clewrly wasn't lucky with the one he bought, donyou know if it was new or used?
I owned the same model for a number of years and loved it. I was disappointed not to see the fully refurbished car after your usual thorough sorting out. Ah, well, better luck with the next one 🤗
Just finished long shift and ive thought wonders whats Mat up to boom new vid cheers mate
Matt. Genuine love these videos. Be safe. 👍
Glad you like them!
Hi Matt great review of the vw Passat cc shame to see such a great car neglected I’ve got the same one in silver manuel six speed diesel I had it remapped from 140 to 170 to give it a bit more midrange power and always kept up with full service history I’ve had a few probs with the rear suspension which they are renowned for plus egr valve that’s all very reliable car I’ve had from 2013 still going strong the only thing is I only do short journeys now and would quite like the V6 petrol model but there rare as hens teeth I really like your vids Matt all the best.
How much did it cost to replace the egr valve?
The nearside always rusts more in general (see the NS wheels and arches) due to driving through puddles, you probably know this anyway however
My b6 estate had rust on the farside wing and under the boot catch
Mine has no rust at all
I think in this instance it's had an accident and been poorly repaired. Wouldn't normally expect that amount of rust on a 2011 VW.
My old Skoda Octavia had a bulb warning light on the dashboard but all bulbs in working order. It turned out to be because the daytime running lights had been off for more than six months. Fixed in a moment. Thanks for the content.
this car is my dream car and its hard to see the inner space like that
I had a Passat cc (white which is the best colour for these imo) and it was a lovely motor. It was high mileage when I got it but I think it was a company car so wasn’t worried as it came with loads of history and four Continental tyres. I had no problems with it at all except just as I traded it the info screen thingy got glitchy.
Oh cool! As I’ve said many many times I do like a passat even if they’re dull. Looking forward to watching!
Always been interested by these.
Love your work 👍
Glad you like them!
Another great video. Always look forward to the next video with your Humour. 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
First time I had seen one of these models it was definitely a 3.6 litre VR6. Sounded really mean, definitely had some type of exhaust setup. I didn't know Volkswagens could sound like that back at the time.
I really like the design of the Passat CC
Another great review, thank you.
Love your videos. You're just like me - a perfectionist that hates to see a car go to waste. But the car business is not easy. Keep more vids coming!
Thats why, better refurbish and make it like new
Love your videos matt .wished I bought cars from you .Great insight into the motor trade done properly 👍
Thanks 👍
I've sold 150-200 cars Matt maybe not so many as you and no prizes for guessing which brand has the most comebacks..I would have been straight round to VW for their little known 12 year rust warranty, that year of car to rust is just shoddy unless it has been stuffed and put back together, was impressed I didn't here the VW chime of doom during your brief drive. This would be retailable by me with the tsi petrol engine.Anyway keep up the good work I am off to the Audi dealer now to see what that warning light was on the clients test drive..........
Love these videos , simple format but it works.
Glad you like them!

Hi Matt my 2016 CC GT has 85k on the clock and drives like new. I've had the car from new and still love the car. It's a manual which i prefer. I'd have no problem driving this car for another 7 years 🤞love the channel and still looking forward to the conclusion of your property refurbs👍
Only 85k? My 2009 Mito has even less than that and i totally agree that that you'll have no problem if you take care of it untill you make 300k! Mine has a bit.more than 130k and it's like new.
you wearing those glasses made me laugh, I totally agree with you about EVs
great video mate 👍👍
Great vid, bought mine (2011) 3 years ago for 1300£, with 143k miles, same engine and manual, the car is very nice on a long drives, have taken it for 2 long 5000 mile road trips and it has never missed a beat, only issue with mine is that is chews through drop links. Other than that its a very nice car. Now happily still chugging along with 190k miles.
Coleauge of mine has 2009 with 328k miles, witha dsg box.
Hi Matt, thanks for doing another great video, I am a great fan of your channel, and really like when you do these videos because I am very interested to see what the end result is. I was interested in what you said about people buying three year old cars from main dealers, looking after them for three years and then losing interest in them. It was different with us when we bought a 2000 1 Volvo V40 1.8 petrol from a main dealer back in 2008. We kept on looking after it after three years, and we still have it today, it is used daily, and it is still going strong. I often see very old cars that are still on the roads today like Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, Ford, Nissan, Audi, Mercedes etc, and with that I think there a lot of good eighteen year old cars out there with a five year plus life span. Would you consider consider doing a video on buying an eighteen year old car, and which are the best ones to buy?
That's true, still there are people who take good care of their cars, and that is the result. Btww this is na 12Yold car wich was stunning when it came out and it still looks good today, well treated it's very good car, much better than modern day hatchsback

Lol, never really thought anything of it! But true!!
It’s an advert
Really - you think 😂
HPA gets a huge amount of views for every video , shows we really appreciate these brilliantly informative films .this is the car channel we always wanted ....not the children of top gear
Good to see the bad sides as well and not just sunshine stories. There are some lemons out there.
The CC is a lovely car, and a proper "attainable luxury" car. Kind of knew this was going to go this way when you were looking through the MOT history in the CarVertical report.
And cutting it loose is definitely the right idea, with so many issues, it just can't be saved economically. I think this will very quickly end up with a scrapper and will end up helping to keep far better condition CCs going.
I had a 63 plate CC from new and it was one of the best cars I owned. 115K when I handed it back and nothing ever went wrong!
Love the new sponsor “SUBWAY” and their Teriyaki.Another informative video.
good content matt m8.
I was lucky enough to have a 2016 CC with the 184bhp engine. Even had the cooled/massage seats. Was a lovely thing to rack miles up in,I sold it on 175k and it was still as sweet as a nut. Actually replaced it with a CLS shooting Brake.
Lucky, always wanted a CLS shooting brake but a bit too rich for my blood. Got an e350 estate as it was a few grand cheaper but always jealous when I see one!
@@SBBUK yeah. Really was a very lovely thing. Felt special.
The CLS shooting break is a marvelous car! Too bad they don’t make them anymore.
Yes the Cls started all this 4door coupé niche. (The CC was the 2nd and the A5 sportsback the 3rd) The newer versions just look awsome indeed, it's a shame rhey do not do it any more.
VW CC's were reasonably successful in the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) especially in 2015 at the hands of Jason Plato and Colin Turkington. Team Hard kept using the cars until the end of the 2020 season. For the last couple of season it was a back marker car but did take a surprise win in the rain at Silverstone in 2019.
Good to know
Thanks mat i asked few weeks ago for this thank you

I have been driving the same car since 2010 😍 it makes me so happy seeing my car loved by others, I thought i drive an old VW , but no one will know what it feels like driving it . I have the 2.0 petrol turbo ❤
Same, will not sell it, priceless value
Very good and stylish car the CC is, has so much capability as a daily cruiser. Always reminded me to the the bigger, longer version of the Scirocco
CC along with the Scirocco were one of best VW models ever made imho
But much prettier.
I was looking to buy one of these a little while back there's something about them I like . but I was torn between a cc or a e class coupe . the cc is a handsome looking car if looked after in my view ,,,, but in the end I went sod it , dug a little deeper and bought the mercedes e class coupe with all the buttons switches . glad I did and its still with me today on the drive ,,,, your videos are brilliant car coverage matt and letting us look into the car dealing world ,
Cool video sir really enjoy them.
Rented one in Germany back in 2012.
Wasn't a bad car, kept the pace on the Autobahn thanks to the 2 litre diesel with a turbo bolted to it.
It had the navigation system, but not all European countries maps were loaded, so once one was outside of Germany or Austria, the thing went blank.
Obviously, the rear seat headroom is compromised a bit due to the body style, but that was OK, but I was the only person.
One thing I did not like about it was the electric button parking brake, but that is common these days.
Was never sure how it worked or whether it worked at all.
I do wonder why VW made it, though. Wasn't all that practical, was a bit on the large size for European parking spaces or garages, and it didn't have all that much personality...felt like a well designed kitchen appliance rather than a car one would get all tingly at the prospect of driving it.
I 100% agree with you about smoking especially in a car it just completely ruins it and realistically it’s incredibly hard to get rid of the smell.
The car reminds me of a budget CLS….
Thats basically what it is
Many of us older folks were brought up in a time when smoking was not only tolerated, but fashionable. Cigarettes were advertised in newspapers, magazines, on bill-boards, at cinemas and even on TV. Many famous people (including royalty, film stars, musicians) smoked cigarettes, and to vilify us for it now is unfair. If the previous owner was as young as Matt then of course he/she should have known better. Modern 'men' are obsessed with grooming products, eating fruit and fibre, cleanliness, tidiness, home improvements and the freedom to criticise those that came before them. The previous owner probably didn't smoke in the car specifically to ruin it's resale value, but because he enjoyed it (or was addicted to it). Either way, smoking cigarettes is still legal and therefore a personal choice (stupid or otherwise). Perhaps Matt should have viewed the car BEFORE he bought it in order to spare him from the horror.
@@sputumtubeok boomer
@@sputumtube Fair point. It's always been my first question when I have enquired about a second hand car - "Has it any evidence of having been owned by a smoker?". If the answer is yes, it's end of conversation because I've found you can never quite get rid of the smell. That said, I bought a car a few years ago which smelt really lovely on the test drive although I couldn't quite detect why. After I bought it I found that the driver's seatbelt was drenched in very strong perfume and every time I drove it I emerged smelling like a perfume dept. It took a VERY long time to fade away!!!
@@sputumtube while i sum what agree with what you are saying that cigarettes were very much a fashionable thing my grandparents and one of my parents smoked but never in the car. I don’t see how it’s “vilifying” it’s an honest opinion which people are aloud to have. If people want to smoke in their cars then that’s up to them weather they’re young or not it doesn’t make a difference and I don’t judge people at all for it. Times have changed yes but I think actually when it comes to being obsessed with the things you said it’s quite diverse of how many generations are getting on board with being healthier and being pro active with their lives.
Of course no one buys a car with the intention of ruining its resale value and like I said the it’s up to people how they treat their own vehicles but judging by that CC they valued smoking over maintaining their car.
Matt is in the car trade it’s quite common to buy a vehicle site unseen the people selling it to him arnt just going to say “oh btw it’s absolutely plastered in nicotine” just not a realistic expectation.
I agree with the one owner policy. Last car I had was a 2 owner 2005 Honda CR-V with 94k on the clock, and it was a complete disaster (£950 left my wallet before it was even safe to drive). Final straw was the drive by wire throttle body which failed, causing it to go into limp mode.
Current car is a 7 owner 2005 BMW X3 with 163k on the clock, and apart from the air-con needing a recharge it's been faultless.
Really thought it was going to work out....fair play for showing us that it sometimes it just doesnt.......
I quiet like the idea of raffle shed, I was thinking of why Matt is not putting through the raffle before you mentioned you don’t want to do that. I personally enjoy watching you save these cars, you would recoup your cost and some profit and someone would potentially have a car for a fiver. Everyone is a winner but that’s my opinion.
What about Raffletat ?.
Definitely right decision there mate it's just not worth the cost 👍
I agree. I think had it done fewer miles or been a more rare car I'd have done it
Love the way you say Jagwaaaaar. Hell yeah
Ha ha loved this one. The cut to you wearing the glasses made me laugh out loud 🤣
You have an error with the battery, so if its old, that may well be causing some of your other errors that are showing up. I wonder if they would re-ocur if they were cleared. Not that you need to worry if you;ve passed it on.
Or it was changed and not learned in the correct way. Not learning a battery in could also cause faults
I had a wonderful cc gt, the 170bhp model with the xenon, newer led rear lights similar interior except pristine clean and traded her in for a 6 series! It was literally handed keys to dealer and drove off in 6 series! But it was a wonderful car, got out of it as was losing money on it with crappy pcp deal...Good review but shows how not to take care of your car!
It could even have that title "how to not take care of your car!"
Love your videos Matt.
Glad you like them!
lol @ smokers cough just from standing here. Oh Matt, please do not ever ever stop. you are right on my wavelength fella.
If the sun visor is that colour, just imagine what the inside of the previous owners lungs look like…….. scary!😳
This is such a pity because the Passat is a really good looking car, however as you say it has been sadly neglected.
I can fully understand your perfectionism Matt, because I’m exactly the same, around 6 years ago I bought a 7 year old Škoda Fabia estate for my work, by the time I had finished attempting to return its condition to brand new, it would have probably been cheaper for me to actually buy a brand new one, I spent a fortune on cosmetic improvements which I had no hope of ever recouping.
Sadly negletected indeed, speaking of Skoda i did at time considered a Superb (great value car), but the CC just looked way stunning
CarVertical based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Astonishing (I think is the right word) they know so much about UK cars.
I have a 2008 3.6 version of this coming up to 150k now. Great engine, and a good cruiser. Haldex broke though which wasn’t fun 🤣. Has some nice touches like a DVD player, a rear electric sun blind and auto parallel parking 😁
They’re good looking cars, shades of the Mercedes CLS, such a shame this has been neglected and with a health hazard interior! I feel your pain.
I can empathise with that
My daily driver is a VW CC 2012. Its a great car, I bought it new and it's much loved (unlike this older previous version!) My CC has wood trim which I prefer which came with lights everywhere inside. This passat CC was nice but I like my more modern CC. Sad to see a great car unloved and fallen into disrepair like this one 😞
Yeah true, your must be the restyled one
I just bought a 2013 n I agree with. Awesome car n I definitely enjoy the look n ride as well
