It is possible that John Wesley, whom as Brad mentioned, openly rejected Calvinism and emphasized the loving mercy of God - he taught ‘Christ died for all’ - may have finally embraced something along the lines of a "Victorious Gospel." In 1787 he published as “one of the most sensible tracts I have ever read,” a translation from Bonnet’s Palingenesie Philosophique, which taught, “There will be a perpetual advance of all the individuals of humanity towards perfection.” Thank you for this most uplifting presentation.

40:45 really caught my attention - why do people get so defensive about things like this, penal substitution, homosexuality? There have actually been neurological studies of the human brain that when something we consider to be a core belief is challenged, it actually triggers our amygdala and the core centers of our brain for self identity and negative emotions. Basically, our brain misinterprets the challenge to a core belief as being a challenge to our safety and identity (I'm not a neurologist but that's my summation of it). To me, and from a biblical perspective, it just drips with hints about where we get our life from and how misplacing our identity is so damaging to relationships. I've been training myself to respond only in calm, loving ways when someone challenges my beliefs, because _Christ and Christ alone is the supply of living water_ which I desperately need. It is hard but Christ is merciful endlessly and is helping me sort through that. Just some food for thought :)
thanks for sharing this... Brad's understanding of scripture has been rocking my entire view of the gospel for the past few months, and now my view of hell is all topsy turvy too!

Did you listen? That was one point mentioned...that hwaven and hell need/should not be reduced to afterlife realities but ongoing lived experiences in the hear and now. Lots of people experiencing hellish situations here on earth which should be the impetus we need to work with God for more goodness, beauty and love "on earth as it is in heaven"
